Oh, wow! I know I'm a scaredy cat but I still choose to read horror books that will keep me up reading with the lights on. This may not be an original plot but boy......Josh Winning has definitely given it an original spin. The characters fit the story perfectly, I talked to them throughout the book and could not really believe when the twists and surprises made me jump. I'm definitely reading more Josh Winning books, but maybe during the daytime.....

I cant even begin to describe how much I love this book. Instant 5 stars, the gore, the curse, the nightmares, the storyline, everything was perfect! I cannot wait to get my hands on this book next year.

First off, thank you so much to #Netgalley, the publisher and especially the author for this ARC!
This book was INCREDIBLE!! Once I started reading I literally couldn’t put it down and when I had to (to make food, fold laundry) I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It is so creepy and action packed, I will definitely be buying a copy for myself when it releases, it is in the top 3 books I’ve read this year easily! I will be reading anything this author releases in the future, no questions ☺️

Thirty years ago, a movie titled The Guesthouse was made with a villain called Needle Man. It quickly became a legend because of the deaths associated with the cast, Eight deaths, all gruesome and all different and all predicted by child star Polly Tremaine who played the spooky psychic Tammy Manners. And Polly is the only cast member still alive…except, she’s now journalist Laura Warren and neither has nor wants anything to do with show business…except, she’s assigned to cover a new streaming series based on…you guessed it. The Guesthouse. Soon bodies are piling up, Laura is having hallucinations and the police suspect her of murder because she just happens to be the only one present when people are dying grotesquely. She’s determined to find the real killer before she is arrested. But the Needle Man has other ideas…
Burn the Negative is perfect, dread inducing, screaming horror. Josh Winning uses narrative, memos, newspaper stories and script excerpts to make this thriller super realistic. It should (and I hope will be) a movie or a streaming series about a movie. Netflix, are you listening? 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, PENGUIN GROUP Putnam and Josh Winning for this ARC.

Yes yes yes! Burn the Negative is like Grady Hendrix's The Final Girl Support Group meets Scream, and I am HERE for it! This is such a fun read, combining the camp of old horror with the scare factor of slasher films to create a story that is chilling and utterly compelling. Burn the Negative also explores the dark side of childhood fame and the consequences of rebooting a cursed (?) film. This book is twisty, visceral, and creepy in all the best ways.
Thank you to Penguin Group and NetGalley for providing a digital copy of Burn the Negative in exchange for an honest review! Burn the Negative will be available July 11, 2023.

Unfortunately I am not able to finish this book due to the format. Since it needs to be read through the Netgalley app, the glare of the screen gives me terrible headaches if I read too long.
I will say that I read the first few chapters before giving up and I am very intrigued. I will definitely purchase this book when it comes out so that I can finish reading it.
Please try to offer Kindle versions of the books, the paperwhite is designed to avoid glare and headaches. I will make sure to pay attention to available formats going forward.

I would love to read this book, but there is not an option to send to Kindle. Please let me know if this changes and I will definitely read and send a review. Thank you!

This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Laura is on a flight to the set of a streaming series she will be writing about when she realizes that the show is a remake of a movie she starred in as a child. She doesn’t have happy memories from that experience- 8 people involved in the shoot ended up dead over the next several years, killed in the same ways people died in the movie. After Laura arrives in LA, bodies begin to pile up again and she enlists the help of the show’s psychic to help her find out what is happening.
The concept is so much fun, and the beginning was very well executed. I could feel Laura’s terror as she waited for her plane to land and as she visited the set. This book would make an excellent horror flick and would scare plenty of people! I was sure at around 40% in that I knew exactly what was going to happen, and I was extremely wrong.
Without saying too much, I wasn’t a fan of where the back half of the book went. I’m sure horror lovers will love it, but it just wasn’t for me once it got to a certain point in the story. While I can appreciate the creativity involved in the storytelling, I just didn’t enjoy the ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

A MUST READ for fans of cursed films theories. The story starts from chapter one and doesn't stop. I read it in one day and it was a perfect accompaniment to horror movie marathoning for October. The main character has to return to LA to cover a soon-to-be remake of a horror movie she starred in when she was a child. The story definitely had the feel of "everyone's a suspect," and the ending is rewarding. As the story unfolds, the reader begins to question whether or not there really is a Needle Man, or if someone has ill intentions for the main character.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Omg what a ride!!! I was hooked in the first chapter. I would definitely give this 5 out of 5 stars. This book keeps you guessing all the way to the end! I walk while I read and my pace was fast. I just couldn't stop. This is a highly recommended book for anyone that loves scary movies. The story was was well written and I can't wait to read more by this author. I'm definitely hooked. Thank you for the chance to read an advanced copy. I can't wait to tell everyone I know they have to read this book!!!

BURN THE NEGATIVE is absolutely perfection!! Riveting from the very first pages, immediate total suspension of disbelief, hitting-on-all-cylinders psychological-Supernatural-Paranormal Suspense!!
BURN THE NEGATIVE is the first of Joshua Winning's work I've read, and I'll be gleefully jumping into his earlier Titles. I'm so impressed with this novel.
Love of Horror? Live for Horror films? Secretly believe in Cursed Cinema? Remember a certain famous Horror movie whose cast all suffered fatalities in various ways? You're going to adore BURN THE NEGATIVE, a Horror Novel seamlessly packed with fantastic themes, incredible revelations, loaded Suspense, danger, death, Spooky entities, and so many twists my head constantly spun like a certain famous novel/film character who perfected the 360° headline! Best of all, it's perfectly created! I can't recommend it highly enough!!

Are you in the mood for some ‘90’s throwback horror movies? Well grab your popcorn everyone because this book has everything you’re looking for.
The cover just SCREAMS ‘90’s horror and I am HERE FOR IT. It fits the book perfectly. This book touches on lives of child actors while wrapping that story up with a slasher film bow. We follow Laura, a journalist, as she heads to LA for a job. On the plane she discovers she’s headed directly into her past, which she has worked very hard to run from. See, Laura was child star Polly Tremaine, who played Tammy (the star) in the 1993 horror film The Guesthouse. The film was surrounded by death then and the reboot she’s been sent to write an article on has her on edge.
Basically we follow Laura on her journey to facing the demons from her past and becoming her true self - but unlike many “be true to yourself” storylines, this one does not consist of rainbows and unicorns - it’s super bloody and dramatic. Straight up ‘90’s slasher film kind of nonsense. I loved it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Freaky freaky, freaky.
I love scary stories in all formats and this one mixes two of my favorite: cinema and literature in one awesomely dark tale with a horrifying villain and deliciously sustained psychological suspense.
Very good. Recommended. Thanks Netgalley.

An excellent homage to the schlocky 70’s/slashy 80’s horror I grew up with. A cursed (maybe) movie? Check. A traumatized child star? Check. A remake/reboot doomed from the beginning? Check. What’s not to love?
I have to admit, after reading this, I went and reread My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones and The Remaking by Clay McLeod Chapman. I think this book will proudly occupy a space on the shelf beside them.

From the blurb, this sounded much more like a psychological thriller. That is not how the book actually is. It is a lot more fantasy horror than I expected. My starred review is not based on what I thought the book would be however. It was good, but I personally do not like fantasy horror.

4.5 Stars
This is a deliciously scary and suspenseful horror novel. It’s perfect for fans of slasher horror films, but even for those like me who enjoy a good scary novel but who are too chicken to watch those kinds of movies on the screen. The novel keeps a great pace and has you guessing until the end. If you are looking for a great fall, Halloween read, I highly recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for this digital arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is such a great story and I loved reading it. I found it to be a rollercoaster of emotions and a little creepy. I am so thankful to have been able to read this ARC and can't wait for it to come out so I can put it on my shelf.

Horror fans have rallied against remakes for years, but no remake has ever been as bad of an idea as this one. See, there was apparently a curse on the original project that claimed eight lives. Rebooting it means that there is a very good chance the curse will strike again.
It gets even weirder, though, because the journalist assigned to cover the remake is none other than the first film’s star. Laura has completely reinvented herself and almost no one knows she was in the first movie, including the talent for the remake.
Soon, people begin dying, and there appears to be a pattern. What will happen next? And why has misfortune befallen the set again? Is the curse actually real? I won’t answer these questions for you, but the book will!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.

Creepy and twisty. The main character, Laura, starred in a horror movie as a child, and since filming, people who worked on the film have died strangely, or committed terrible crimes. Now, she's a journalist, using a different name than in childhood, and has been sent to interview the people on the remake of that horror movie.
Immediately, strange things start happening. People start dying, the psychic hired to be on set seems to know more about Laura than she should, and Laura can't help but wonder if she will be the "Final Girl" on a horror movie set, or if her time is running out.
Lots of twists and turns, definitely keeps you guessing until the very last page.
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC!
