Ehh it just wasn’t for me. I’m an adhd Gemini mom so generally I appreciate random things. This was too much even for me.

Penn Jillette's "Random" is a thought-provoking and entertaining audiobook that offers a unique blend of humor, personal anecdotes, and philosophical musings. Jillette's narration adds an extra layer of authenticity and wit to his storytelling, making the audiobook an engaging and enjoyable experience. Honestly, I tried to listen to this one and I just couldn't get into Penn's narration. I love listening to him talk and any show he's been in. But he didn't do a good job differentiating... basically anything in his performance of Random. Honestly, the narration itself felt a bit random.

I think if this had been a memoir about his life, it would have worked great. But in this instance, a new narrator probably should have been picked. I rarely ever talk negatively about a performance unless it really needs it. But this was a "the author is famous, he should narrate it" that didn't work (IMHO).

Best part of the book was hands down the humour in the writing, I don’t often find myself laughing in this genre and this book had me a few times. Plus, I love the idea of Vegas but have been tons and never really liked it so I enjoyed it at a distance while reading haha.

I think regardless of whether you end up liking the book or not there’s two important things: 1) it’s by Penn Jilette how can you not read it and 2) even if you end up disliking it you’ll probably still look back and find you were still engaged throughout the book. It’s a light quick read and totally worth it imo!

Dispite a fixation with a guy carrying around good used cum towel, an interesting story about humans' place in the universe.

There is a place in this book where it veers from funny and smart, to mean and gross. I didn't care for that. I don't mind the bodily fluid jokes, but the casual racism and the jokes about sexual assault are too too far.

Entertaining read, although some readers will be put off by the raunchiness. Audiobook is narrated by Jillette, and he does a great job- his voice is perfect for the tone of the story, gritty and excited. The story gives the reader a look behind the glitz and glamour of Vegas, to the dirty, lawless side the entertainment world has told us is there.

My only complaint is that the protagonist is nearly 21 and navigating the underworld of Vegas seamlessly, yet most kids that age I've met could hardly do a proper load of laundry.

A really great book that made me suffer through soooo many descriptions of Bobby smelling or tasting his own cum

I wasn't sure at all what to expect from Penn Jillette as an author, so was pleasantly surprised to find out that writing can be added to his list of talents. Thankfully he narrates this as well, or I believe that some of it would have gotten lost in the delivery.

As the title suggests, this book is a little random. But, the premise is that the protaganist escapes death on a lucky roll of the dice and decides to roll the dice for every major decision, keeping things random. Is it a ridiculous concept? Of course it is. Is there humor in the book? Absolutely. Penn is known for these things so that doesn't disappoint.

As the title suggests, this book is a whole lotta random. Granted, I would listen to it even if the story didn't have an intriguing premise just to hear Penn's narration. The idea of a guy who narrowly escapes death on a lucky roll and then lives life by rolling the dice for every major decision is wild, though it reminds me a bit of Two-Face from Batman. As much fun as it is to listen to Penn, however, I might recommend reading the book instead of listening to the audiobook for one reason: there is so much repetition and redundancy for the sake of the story that it would've been far more enjoyable to skim over it. For example, Penn lists the number and odds for EVERY SINGLE CHOICE ON EVERY ROLL, including ones where seven of the eleven possibilities are exactly the same. I get that it's for humor and to show how ridiculous it is, but for the love of all that's random it gets really annoying after a while. There are other spots were lines were repeated and I couldn't tell if it was intentional for effect, if the audiobook replay was skipping, or if it was an error in recording.

The ending is reasonably satisfying, if not completely random (as Penn says, ex deus virus), but there is a lot of extra commentary, much of it political or theological, and if you don't enjoy shows like, say, The Boys, you probably won't enjoy that cursing and random weirdness in this book. Thanks to Blackstone, NetGalley, and Penn Jillette for the opportunity to listen to and laugh along with this book.

Decent narration. Didn't like cover art, felt it cheapened the overall look of the book.. listened in 2 days. Maybe not what I expected, but still a decent audio. Good character depth good premise and plot. Would reccomend to others looking for a light read or between harder topics. 4 stars
