Great psychological thriller about a woman in her 40s who decides to do IVF. A midwife in the clinic named Jackie befriends her. This has an intriguing plot with a good twist at the end. Thank you to net galley for an ARC of this book!

Lauren, who is in her forties, uses a donor and her savings to go through a successful round of IVF. On visiting the ante natal clinic she meets Jackie, a midwife. Jackie is very supportive and even suggests that Lauren joins a small group of pregnant women to talk over any worries. Lauren becomes worried that Jackie is showing too much interest in her and becomes suspicious. Lauren is hiding a secret which she must keep hidden but soon realises that there is someone else who knows about it as she starts receiving threatening letters and even a brick thrown through her window,. Jackie also has a secret past. Could what happened years ago be linked to them both? The book has an intriguing plot but was slow paced at times but I was pleased that is stuck with it as I was eager to find out the link between them.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,

I was hooked from the beginning. Once I started it I couldn’t put it down. Psychological thriller leaving you wondering if you could trust anyone in life. Haunting to think you couldn’t trust your midwife. Such a fantastic plot. Played out so well. Very well thought out and written.

I was really looking forward to this book as I’ve read a few already by this author but I found it extremely slow to start with and a lot of threads to the storyline, in which I had to sometimes reread as it felt as though I’d missed something ! An ok
Read but not as good as others by this author

Such an interesting and intriguing story plot. All the characters were portrayed in detail so it felt like you were with them in the story. Would definitely recommend this book.

This was a fascinating and engaging book. It was a bit creepy it at times (do not read if you are pregnant!!) and hard to put down. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller!

I really enjoyed this book & did not expect the twist at the end at all. Enjoyed the writing style & back story. Look forward to reading more by this author.

This was a nice enough read, the story of a midwife and a mother, both connected in stranger ways than they were aware of. A mystery surrounding the air, secrets and guilt filling up the environment.
.
But I would still like to be a little critical on this one. While going through the book, I felt that the story has been terribly dragged out.
.
While I respect when we are given an insight to whatever the characters are feeling, the intention of the author to describe those things in far too much detail made the suspense seem boring at times.
.
The storyline at the beginning was very much slow paced which creates an impression on the readers that the reveal at least would be sudden and exciting. Unfortunately the descision to do a slow reveal gave me more than enough time to figure things out for myself.
.
Although I was impressed by the fact that they successfully managed to keep us in dark about the identity of the characters being talked about which made a different picture of the story in the initial stages which later got shattered when the truth came out.
.
All in all, it was a three star read for me. Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy to read and review this!

Wow this author constantly delivers nail-bitingly taut page turners every single time and this book is no different. Wow! What an incredibly addictive, suspenseful thriller. Do read this one.

Jackie is the midwife - and that's the one person whose name we know for sure throughout the book.
Jackie is midwife to Lauren, a soon to be mum, alone in the world, no family to support her, no partner, and with her baby the result of IVF. Jackie, however, seems a little over eager to provide support to Lauren, even by providing her phone number. Why? Is she all that she seems?

I was very pleasantly surprised by this psychological thriller. I initially started reading it assuming that I knew what the midwife's motivation or at least that it was a negative motivation. As the story progressed, however, I realised that the book was more complex than I'd perhaps realised. There were a couple of times where I got a bit confused as to who was who - not so difficult given that two of the women at the centre of this story had changed their names. I'd give the book overall a 4.5* rather than a 5* as it took me a while to really start to enjoy it, but once I did get to grips with who was who and what was happening I really did want to keep reading to find out how it all ended.

I'm grateful to Netgalley for giving me a chance to read an ARC.

This book started off very slowly after such a great description and with so many characters I lost my way a bit trying to remember how the various characters were linked. The second half improved with a some twists but still lacking.

This was an interesting read with a unique storyline that turns out differently than expected. The story centers on Lauren, a soon to be single mother, and Jackie, a midwife who takes Lauren under her wing. Both women have secrets that they don’t want the other to learn, and Lauren in particular isn’t sure who to trust when creepy things start happening at her house. The chapters alternate between these 2 POVs.

This story was interesting because what is really happening is fully unexpected (at least to me). I thought the author did a great job in weaving the story to lead the reader one direction and then went in a totally different direction while still making it all make sense. I do think that a couple of the things that happened seemed unrealistic (like the majority of Lauren’s interactions with her landlord) but was willing to suspend my disbelief for a good story. I was also satisfied with the way it all worked out.

Overall, I’d recommend the book for those who enjoy psychological thrillers. I thought the storyline stood out in a crowded genre. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very unusual plot and the first half was very slow paced and didn’t give much away at all. In the second half it suddenly ramped up a gear or two and the plot unfolded very quickly and had some great twists and shocking moments.

I really did enjoy this one, as a mum I know how truly vulnerable we are when we are expecting, and you put all of your trust Into your midwife. Never in a million years would you believe that your midwife could have bad intentions.
This was a roller-coaster of a story, I highly recommend!

I enjoyed this book and read it quickly, but it wasn't as memorable as some thrillers I've read recently.

The story begins with Lauren, a woman in her early forties who, having undergone IVF, is having a baby on her own. Lauren is haunted by memories of the past, although we don't know why. All of a sudden, a midwife at the hospital begins taking an interest in Lauren and her unborn baby and, suddenly incidents start happening, creepy notes, bricks through windows. Has someone found out about Lauren's past?

I empathised with Lauren's character and found the plot intriguing. The tension was nicely built up and Jackie's story was cleverly woven into the book. Unfortunately, Lauren and her landlord's relationship never felt properly developed or believable. I also felt somehow that there was something missing and, to me, the ending felt a bit of a disappointment.

A decent enough read for fans of creepy psychological thrillers.

Thanks to publishers Bookouture and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a riveting psychological thriller which grips you from the first page. A well written thriller with plenty of twists and turns which is written from two perspectives.
I enjoyed this, it is cleverly written with you deliberately being misled into knowing who the characters really are and what there motives are.
This is a reasonable length book and I read on the flights to and from Dublin to London comfortably.

The book is written from two perspectives which gives you a bit more insight but also makes it jump around a bit. There are plenty of plot twists to keep you intrigued and guessing all the way to the end and I have to admit the end wasn't what I had expected which is good. But it dragged a bit in places and I wasn't enthralled with it.

What a gripping, brilliant book. Loved the two perspectives it was told from, and loved all the twists and turns. Very tense, gripping page turner. Fantastic.

Really intriguing blurb that had me eager to get stuck in. It’s told from the point of view of The Midwife and The Mother and switches accordingly. It’s very cleverly written as it’s giving you the information but you’re still not really sure what’s going on which keeps you turning those pages. Both women have there own pasts to contend with and you’re given a glimpse into both which helps you to get to know them and where they have come from. This one is a slow burn for sure but it’s worth it and will definitely have you curious to read on.
