Getting Even is a captivating collection of two suspenseful novels by the renowned author Lisa Jackson. The first novel, "Final Scream," delves into the chilling narrative of a serial killer's pursuit of his next victim, while the second, "He's Just a Cowboy," weaves a tale of romantic suspense in the Montana wilderness. Lisa Jackson's masterful storytelling and skillful character development make these novels a compelling read for any suspense enthusiast.

I always love a good Lisa Jackson book. The way she describes her characters and the setting is amazing. This was a good one but just not really my cup of tea but I know that there are a lot of people out there that will absolutely love it.

Lisa Jackson always has a way of writing a story that draws the reader in. While I did wish that these were full stand alone books, it was the perfect weekend snack.

The first story if full of deceit, family secrets and unbridled passion between two people who love each other deeply, but let everything get in the way of that love. Everything that tests one person's loyalty to her family or her heart.

The second story hits home to any mother, especially if they are not with the child/children's father. Her ex-husband takes the kids for a weekend a way, but never returns. Leaving Lauren forever wondering what has become of her precious kids, but not stilling by when the police's investigation begins to stall.

Two intriguing and gripping stories that will have you on the edge of your seat.

A romance in the middle of a thriller. My two favorites. I figured out right off who was guilty, but the thrill was in how it played out. I did think another character was also in on the plot, but I was wrong. I couldn’t put it down until I knew the continuous plot twists. The way it ended was perfect.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This book was just amazing. I just lost myself in this story and didn’t want it to end. It was really well written and just drew in you into these characters lives. I look forward to seeing what’s next from this author.

Lisa Jackson knows how to write a thriller like no other. The characters are believable and the plot is well thought out.

"Getting Even" by Lisa Jackson is a suspenseful novel that weaves together mystery and romance. While the book has its moments of intrigue and suspense, the pacing can be sluggish, delaying the buildup of tension. The romantic aspect of the story feels forced and underdeveloped, lacking the depth necessary to fully engage readers. Additionally, the plot twists can be predictable, diminishing the impact of the suspenseful elements. Despite these shortcomings, Jackson's writing style keeps the narrative moving and may appeal to fans of her previous works.

This is one of my favorite authors and I read any book by her. I didn’t realize this was two older books but I loved both stories. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I recommend this book.

Two books about revenge, what could be better? I enjoyed both stories, however I had to take between the two. It gets a little long if not. Both are well written with great characters. I thought the action and suspense were perfectly timed and kept me engaged. My only complaint is the length. I am not a fan of how this was set up. I would prefer each story individually. Other than that, well done.

Unfortunately I didn’t realize this was a 2 in 1 reissue of 2 novels released almost 40 years ago so definitely won’t be in Jackson’s’ style of romantic suspense. I always try to check copyright dates but didn’t in this case. Pretty disappointed

THis book contains two books, that were published years ago.
I enjoyed both stories. They had romance, and revenge. Getting even was the perfect titile for this book.

The first book was about Tori and Trask. Two people who separated years ago because of Trak's betrayal. Now he is back, and asking for Tori's help.
THe second book was about Lauren and Zachary. Lauren as desperate to find her kids that her ex-husband disappeared with. Zachary is a down andout lawyer that uses uncoventional ways for his cases. THey both have troubled pasts but work together to solve the case.

On another note, these were both written in the 1980's so you can see the diiference in the writing and some of the things that go on would not be acceptable in these times. Keep this in mind

There is actually 2 stories in this book. I found it hard to relate to the characters which affected my rating. It was a bit over the top and somewhat repetitive.

Two suspense novels in one!

It’s been five years since Tory’s father was sent to prison for a crime she believes that he didn’t commit. She blames the man she loved, Trask McFadden, for betraying her and helping to send her father to prison. Trask has arrived back in town and wants to drudge up the past and is looking for Tory’s help. He believes someone else was involved in the scheme that sent her father to prison where he died as well as the death of his brother. Will Tory be able to put past hurts aside and help Trask?

Lauren Regis’ ex-husband took their children for a long weekend and never returned them. She’s spent the last year searching and has hired more than one lawyer to help her, but to no avail. She’s at a loss and has decided that Zachary Winters may be the only one able to help her. He’s a bit unconventional, but Lauren doesn’t know where else to turn.

I enjoy reading all novels written by Lisa Jackson and this one was no exception.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #GettingEven

This book is a combination of two previously written stories. Unfortunately both are very dated. Some of the actions and wording are not acceptable in today’s standards of behavior. It was hard to relate to the characters in either story as they were very one dimensional. I have enjoyed many of this author’s subsequent works, which I do recommend.. I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this book.

#netgalleyarc This was a me read. I generally really enjoy this authors work but this book was just meh. I didn’t like the main male character right off the bat. I usually find this authors work to be suspenseful and thrilling but just felt like this one was lacking that department,

This was a surprising 2 for 1 deal.

I didn't realize these are re-release of her older novels and you can really see how much of a change has happened in her writing skills. There was a lot of repetition in these novels. These were great Novella's and I enjoyed them, but I felt they were a little wordy and not as addicting as her more current novels.

It was interesting to see how much the author has grown and how much better her writing is. All in all I enjoyed myself because this author is wonderful and really enjoyed these stories.

This is a two short story collection by Lisa Jackson. In the first story Trask McFadden is back and those are words that Tory has been waiting to hear. It’s been five years since Trask helped put her father in prison for horse swindling, using things she’d told him in confidence. Her father died there, but now Trask insists he has information that could help prove who was really responsible for the crime, and help solve his own brother’s death. Trask needs her help, but she doesn't give it easily.

Int he second story, Lauren Regis’s ex-husband has kidnapped her children. There’s nothing she won’t do to get them back, including hiring Zachary Winters. The very unusual attorney has made a name for himself by locating people—especially those who don’t want to be found. But he’s got secrets and Lauren has to decide is she can truly trust him.

There are two books In Getting Even by Lisa Jackson - the first Yesterdays Lies is a re-release of Proof of Innocence - and the second story is Zachary’s Law previously released.
Yesterday's Lies needed help with the storyline. I can tell it was written earlier in Lisa’s career as she is so much better at writing now. I felt it lacked depth and I didn't like the main character, Tory, She was a contradiction to herself! I felt her weak and so easily swayed I had to force myself to continue reading. Trask her former love has returned to town to win her back and to reopen the case that sent her father to prison. Her hate for Trask was - I hate him so much I never want to see him again but I love him so much. He is responsible for my dad dying in prison an innocent man but will she help him look for still another person who may have been in on the murder of his brother? Sorry but this story irritated me
The second story, Zacharys Law I enjoyed! The main character, Lauren was driven to get her two children back from her ex-husband. He disappeared with them after their divorce unwilling to accept shared custody. The children were two and seven when they disappeared and now after searching for 13 months with no results Lauren is given Zachary Winters's name as the one who could finally be successful in finding her children. But Zachary, who hasn't even been practicing law since a personal tragedy doesn't want to help and she must convince him to get back to work and help her.
The characters were strong and the story was realistic it is fast-paced and holds your interest, plus the main characters are likable. I do recommend this book I very much enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers Zebra Books for this advanced combination book this is my voluntary review.

Getting Even by Lisa Jackson

Blas to the past while reading these two vintage stories written in the 1980’s. The author is a favorite and has been for a while so I opted to request a review copy not realizing that the two books were OLD publications being republished together in one book. I skimmed quickly after realizing this and though the stories are still good, they are of the time they were written and a bit over the top, a bit repetitive, a bit predictable, the characters stereotypical with the woman weak and the man strong. So, if you would like to return to an earlier era without cell phones and experience life back then…definitely do so.

YESTERDAY’S LIES
Trask McFadden is a Senator who once had a relationship with Victoria “Tory” Wilson that went bad when he gave evidence against Tory’s father and took off for Washington D.C. Tory and her brother Keith have always believed their father was innocent, hold a grudge against Trask, and are not happy when he returns five years later. He wants the whole truth related to his brother’s murder and the final word on who was responsible for that murder and horse-insurance related crimes that took place. He also wants Tory back.

ZACHARY’S LAW
Lauren’s husband kidnapped her son and daughter then disappeared and she has been trying to get them back for over a year. She has tried private investigators, lawyers, done personal research, and finally goes to Zachary Winters for assistance. The two, of course, fall for one another as they work to find out where her husband and children have gone. This is a romance, a woman seeking her children, and a husband who wanted his children badly enough to kidnap them. It made me wonder why parents can’t have co-parenting work more easily.

Both books are about righting wrongs and finding truth. Both are well written but of the time.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington-Zebra for the copy to read and review – This is my honest review.

3-4 Stars

There are two storylines in this book. Yesterday’s Lies: Tory’s father died in prison after being put there when Trask McFadden used confidential information she shared to send him away. Now, he is back and wants her help to prove who the real guilty person was but after being burned by Trask and destroying her family, Tory is not willing to trust again.

Zachary’s Law: Lauren Regi’s ex-husband kidnapped her children and she has hired Zachary Winters, a lawyer with questionable methods, who finds people who don’t want to be found.

Both of these stories are true Lisa Jackson in her ability to write plots that will keep you reading until you finish the book. Loved both of them!
