Very zippy read! The murder was intriguing, with plenty of suspects and red herrings. Very much like a Hallmark movie meets Agatha Christie with everyone stuck at a ski lodge for the weekend. Looking forward to book 2!

Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower

Murder on the ski slopes. The weapon? A bow and arrow. The suspects? Every guest at the villa.

It’s was an exciting book to read. Enjoyed all the references to skiing and snow in the mountains. Many suspects and man y clues. All the guests were suspects. A blocked roads by trees didn’t make catching the killer any easier. I recommend this book.

This is a Cozy Mystery, and this is the second book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series. I have not read or reviewed the first book in this series, but I do not feel that took away from my enjoyment of this book. I really loved the characters in this book, and the dog in this book I really fell in love with. The mystery in this book pulled me into really fast, and I just did not want to put it down. The only problem with this book that I had was there were parts that felt the pacing was off. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Hallmark Publishing) or author (Amanda Flower) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

A lot of Mystery and a little Romance
Bestselling and award-winning author Amanda Flower is presenting her second volume in the "Piper and Porter Mystery" series entitled "Frozen Detective" and published by Hallmark Publishing. After Samantha Porter's death Darby Piper is running the detective agency with Tate Porter. Darby is dealing with Mrs. McPherson who does not believe that Darby cannot arrest anyone when Cecily Madd, a classmate of Tate, shows up. She inherited a ski resort from her father and requests that Samantha finds out who sends threatening letters to her husband, Dr. Garrett Madd, owner of the premier skincare line MaddlyCare. Soon they are not only dealing with the letters but also with a murder. Thankfully they have a canine helper in Tiny. Will they be able to solve the crime before somebody else gets killed?
This is the second book of the "Piper and Porter Mystery" series. I cannot wait to read more books from this author. I enjoyed the believable characters and the story line of this relaxing mystery. I highly recommend this book to readers who love easy to read mysteries with a romantic twist that offer inspiring characters and a storyline that offers some surprises. Lastly, the book also offers an original Hallmark recipe for "Goat Cheese Phyllo Puffs."
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I haven't read the first book in this series but I have read a lot of other books by the author, so I was eager to give this one a try. I thought that the opulent ski resort setting made for a really unique setting. When Darby and Tate take on a case for an old classmate of Tate's, Cecily, who fears for her husband due to some threatening letters she's received. Naturally, they find themselves centered in murder when Cecily's husband is murdered, but the how and why took a number in interesting twists and turns.

The relationship between Darby and Tate is still evolving as this is only the second book in the series - will their relationship turn romantic? How exactly does Tate feel.aboit Darby? What don't we know about him and his background? (I don't actually want to see them take a turn for romance but we'll see...)

My favorite character though is Tiny, the Saint Bernard, and I am thrilled that we most likely get to see him again in future stories. He provided some light humor through the story and was so lovable.

Frozen Detective is the second book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series. This takes place not long after the first book, and I think it might be beneficial to get to know the characters a bit better there first, but it could be read as a standalone with no issues as well. I enjoyed getting to know Darby and Tate in the previous novel, so I was excited to catch up with them. The mystery was good, and kept the reader guessing and I again enjoyed the back and forth between Darby and Tate... I'm not sure that I found myself quite as drawn into this novel as I had the first one, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless... just the kind of entertaining, cozy mystery story I expect to see from Hallmark, in all the best ways possible.

**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

“Frozen Detective“ by Amanda Flower the 2nd instalment in “A Piper and Porter Mystery” series. What a great follow up to book one! I really enjoyed this story, and I can’t wait for the next instalment!

As they dig up buried grudges, Darby’s jealous ex-boyfriend on the police force thinks they’re wasting their time. Will Darby and Tate figure out who the killer is…or will it become another cold case?

I love Tiny the Saint Barnard, he was adorable

I enjoyed the tension between Darby, her ex Austin and Tate Porter. Part of me wonders if Tate liked Darby back in school and that’s the friction between him and Austin.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters which are well developed.
I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end.

I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Hallmark Publishing and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I loved this book!! This is such a good story! It is well paced, well written, and enjoyable. I read this one without having read the first one in this series and had no problems following the story. I cannot wait until the next one comes out! And I hope Hallmark turns these into movies, too!

I thought Frozen Detective was a fun cozy mystery read perfect for wintertime. To be completely honest, I did not read book one in the series so I cannot say how it compares. However, I can say that I had no issues picking up with book two. Darby and Tate, private investigators, are hired by an old friend of Tate's because her husband has been receiving threatening letters. Tate and Darby go undercover at a New Year's Eve weekend event on a search for who is threatening her husband. Before they can figure it out, someone is found dead in the snow. What begins is an investigation by the PI duo with an inn full of suspects. This story did keep me guessing.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

In this second installment, we see Darby and Tate get involved in another murder mystery. Tate's old classmate Cece, invites them to a new year's party, wherein they are asked to find the person who has been sending threatening letters to her husband. But the party turns sour when Cece's husband is found dead. Amanda Flower is a prolific author and her mysteries have a lot of twists and turns with more than enough red herrings. It was nice to catch up with Darby and Tate as well as the the regular characters.

Darby Piper and Tate Porter are trying to make a success of their new detective agency. Tate brings in an old high school friend who is offering a high paying job to keep her husband safe. Darby is suspicious, but decides the income is worth it. They are to attend a corporate party at a ski villa undercover, posing as a romantic couple. What was to be a simple job identifying the person making threats turns out to be a murder investigation.

This was a five star cozy, keeping me guessing until the end. A recipe for Goat Cheese Phyllo Puffs is included

A fun , cozy, small town mystery to solve by Darby and Tate. Two P.I's working together. They do make you laugh at the banter between them.
When an old high school classmate comes to them to help find out who is sending her wealthy husband threatening letters, they have to act as a romantic couple and attend the party at the ski resort.
Descriptive writing, fun and interesting characters, a few twists and mystery all kept me interested in finding out how this would end.
I enjoyed this book.

Frozen Detective is book #2 in the Piper and Porter Mysteries series by Amanda Flower.

Darby and Tate take on a case that takes them undercover on a case on New Year’s Eve at a luxury ski resort.

This case takes an interesting twist. I really like Darby and Tate. There was a time where there was an issue between them and instead of keeping their feelings quiet, the discussed their concerns with each other. There were humorous moments, especially regarding Darby’s ski suit. As expected when the victim is not well liked, there were many suspects which kept the investigation interesting. I was very surprised at the ending.

Thank you to the author, Hallmark Publishing, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

In this second of the Piper and Porter Mysteries, Darby and Tate, owners of the Piper and Porter Detective Agency, get a new case with a high school friend of Tate's. Cecily, wife of a renowned dermatologist and skincare company, hires them to find someone who is threatening her husband. The two are to pose as a couple for a posh New Year's weekend at her inn on a nearby mountain. They have plenty of suspects to investigate and when the husband is killed, things really get into high gear. I enjoy the banter between Darby and Tate as they work the case and interact. The setting is lovely with lots of snow and the inn sounds gorgeous. This is a fun mystery to unravel, and I did have some ideas, but it definitely had some twists and turns to get there. It even has a wee bit of a holiday feel to it with the inn decorated with Christmas decorations. Great read for those who enjoy cozy mysteries and nice to return to the series. I received a complimentary copy for the purpose of an honest review. All thoughts are mine.

Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower is another Piper and Porter mystery featuring Darby (Piper) and Tate (Porter). Tate had inherited his portion of the business from his aunt and decided to stick around and become Darby’s new partner. This new case was largely because of him as the client was a girl he went to high school with, Cecily, the much younger wife of a face-care magnate. They were to spend the weekend at a local resort, pretending to be in love, and scope out who might have been sending threatening notes to the doctor. Once they arrived they met all the players, including a reporter they knew, undercover as a waiter, hoping for a story. Dr. Madd, the host for the long weekend (New Year’s) had announcements to make and contacts to make, before he was discovered dead in the snow on New Year’s morning. Thus began the search for a murderer, rather than someone writing threatening notes. And, he had been shot in the back using a crossbow. It was cold out and Darby had not come prepared so she went to the gift shop and bought a snow outfit. It turned out to be purple. She looked like a grape. And of course, the police had sent Austin, her ex-boyfriend to investigate. Could it be more awkward?

This is a cute series. The triangle between Darby, Austin, and Tate keeps humor in the mix. Austin still likes Darby despite the fact they broke up because he wasn’t ready for marriage. He was still jealous. And Darby was still annoyed. There were too many people with possible motives, which made it difficult to investigate Madd’s murder. Darby and Tate are good, if a little amateurish, and the resort seems to run like clockwork, thanks to Herschel, the longtime manager. The resort had belonged to Cecily’s father before he died and life it to her. Now she was going to sell and that left more than one person at loose ends. Since she had inherited his skin care company, she would be even busier, even more difficult to get along with. The Finger Lakes area of New York is the ideal place to set this story and this lodge. It was a fun read.

Laura Faye Smith was the reader. At the beginning she sounded too old to be Piper, but she grew on me as the book progressed. She did well with a variety of characters and in the end, presented a very likable performance. I think I might have preferred the e-reader version to the audio version. It played better, I thought. Darby and Tate both were better characters on the page than in the ear.

I was invited to listen to the audio e-ARC of Frozen Detective by Dreamscape Media, and read the e-ARC from Hallmark, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #DreamscapeMedia #Hallmark #Amanda Flower #LauraFayeSmith #FrozenDetective

Thank you NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for accepting my request to read and review Frozen Detective.

Author: Amanda Flower
Published: 12/06/2022
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers

This mystery would be served well with cozy in the genre header. The story is simple. I found keeping the names of the characters straight a chore. I was the only Mary in t. At one point, I reminded myself I wrote flow charts in college, and use them in history books or epic generational multi-book sagas, and in my reading journal. However, never for a cozy or simple mystery book.

The story itself was a little off for me. The ol' private eye partners go to the posh exclusive weekend, oh yes, not dinner, weekend as a couple is old, really really old. In my reading experience it has never worked. I feel like it must have been successful at one point otherwise it would be the trope that went away. Imagine the scene, no one is talking to us, I don't understand why. I'm screaming I know I know.

I do usually have a trope problem with the detective and the PI former lovers, now apart. Suddenly in the small small town only I'm not surprised they run into each other on a case. Flower did have a different response with the encounter than what I've read before.

This is okay. I would put this in a grandparents basket, gift to a nursing home, and even better Flower has written a book that can comfortably be read out loud. Kudos to her.

The Frozen Detective, the second book in this series by Amanda Flower gets off to a slow start. Taking place in Herrington, New York. Darby Piper and Tate Porter are partners in Piper and Porter Detective Agency. The first book began with a murder in which Darby and later Tate could have been seen as suspects. This story did not move as quickly with the crime not happening until several chapters into the story. By the conclusion I could see how the beginning was the character building focus. So I will recommend reading those chapters closely. There is one guilty character I did not guess until near the end.

It has just a touch of romantic tension that plays well between the two main characters. As for Darby’s former boyfriend, I have written him off, sincerely hoping that he stays that way. Many of the other minor characters are wonderful, rounding out the story.

This is cozy mystery all the way. An enjoyable read without being too complicated or too many characters.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
