Darby and Tate are hired by an old high school friend of Tate’s to look into who has been sending her husband threatening letters. It’s Darby’s first chance to see the inside of a local expensive lodge. Less than twenty four hours, the husband is murdered on the ski slopes. With many suspects around it takes them time to figure it all out.

A fun cozy mystery. Many interesting characters or should I say suspects. Interesting case which I had my doubts about from the beginning. I was wrong, but not totally. I was kept guessing. I wish I could have saved this book for July or August. Lots of snow. Loved the addition of the big dog named Tiny. I look forward to reading the next one in this delightful series. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

This was a cute read. I love when the main character in a mystery is a private investigator and Darby was an interesting take on that. While she is a competent investigator and has been in business for awhile she's been a bit thrown off her game by her new partnership with Tate Porter and then when her ex-boyfriend who also happens to be a police detective is pulled onto the scene when their case turns into a murder scene she's on even more unsure footing.

The mystery was in interesting one. I do love when there is no shortage of suspects and Dr. Madd had been going out of his way to make enemies. From an ex-wife/business partner to a current wife who may or may not be on her way out and a heaping helping of unhappy colleagues there are a lot of people who aren't grieving the doctor's death and they're all stuck at a ski resort.

While I did enjoy the read I never really connected with the characters. While the book focuses on Darby and what she's doing I never feel like I got into her head and got to know her. As well, the book leaned a bit to more telling less showing. This was still a fun read and this is a series I'm looking forward to continuing with but those two issues kept it from being a standout for me.

This is the second installment in this series and the first I have read. I was intrigued by the description as I like the Knives Out Movies.

I was hoping it would not be as easy to solve as the movies but I was wrong. I found the characters interesting and the motives even better. I can usually figure out who did it but not always the why. I liked the twists and integration of the different motives.

I recommend this book. It is a standalone mystery.

I was given an advance copy by Netgalley and am not required to leave a positive review.

Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower is described as a Knives Out cozy mystery involving coworkers & private detectives, Darby Piper & Tate Porter, that go undercover as a “couple” to a luxurious ski villa to investigate threats against a wealthy doctor when they are hired by his concerned wife. The duo gets more than they anticipated when they discover that not only has a murder taken place on the ski slopes, but it was done with an arrow sticking out their back! They are now stuck at this isolated ski resort thanks to a huge winter storm with an array of suspects that harbor a variety of complaints against the deceased. Throw in Darby’s ex that happens to be on the police force, it’s the recipe for an intriguing whodunnit perfect to curl up with during this winter season.

Frozen Detective is #2 in the Piper and Porter Mystery series, but it is the first I’ve read & can easily be read as a standalone. Cozy mystery are the perfect read when you want the puzzling mystery but not so much the serious version & then, throw in a little romance & it’s a delightful story!

If you enjoy Hallmark’s Movies & Mysteries Channel, then this is right up your alley! It reminded me so much of Hallmark mystery movies, which I absolutely love! I adored the picturesque setting & the chemistry between the main pair. I appreciated how much Tate trusted Darby & how confident he was in her. This book offered a plethora of suspects that were embedded in the twists & turns of the story that kept me guessing right up until the end.

If you’re in the mood for a wintery cozy mystery, I would recommend Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower, which is out today!

Massive thanks to NetGalley & Hallmark Publishing for the arc, which I voluntarily read & reviewed. All thoughts & opinions are my own!

Trigger warnings: This book mentions &/or contains murder & violence.

I find Amanda Flower's books easy and enjoyable to read. She has not had a series that I didn't like. This is the second in the Porter and Piper detective agency series. Tate Porter is new to the agency, as Darby Piper used to run it with his late aunt. They are kind of awkward and are still learning how to work together. Tate's ex girlfriend, Cecily Madd comes in to the office and says she wants to hire them to figure out who has been sending her husband threatening letters. Cecily's husband, Dr. Garrett Madd is well known in the skin care industry. Darby begrudgingly agrees, mostly because she is tired of doing background checks.

The case is made more interesting by the fact that they have to pretend to be dating and attend a New Years Eve launch party at Cecily's family resort up in the mountains. Cecily is refusing to show Tate and Darby the threatening letters and is being super stingy with information, which is rubbing Darby the wrong way. The morning after Dr. Madd makes a huge announcement, changing everything, Darby finds him dead on the slopes with an arrow in his back.

This was a cool book and had a locked room feeling, with the guests being stranded on a mountain. I give this review voluntarily after receiving an ARC from NetGalley.

FROZEN DETECTIVE, the second Piper and Porter Mystery, is a fun, modern wintery whodunit with a nod to the "locked room" style mysteries of the Golden Age.

Private Investigators Darby and Tate take a case involving a former classmate Cecily Madd. Cecily's husband, a renowned dermatologist, has received several threatening notes and wants Darby and Tate to attend Dr. Madd's flashy New Year's Eve party at a nearby ski resort owned by Cecily. Things get off to a rough start when Cecily makes one excuse after another for not letting them see the notes, and though the party seems to go well, there is plenty of tension and emotions running high. When Darby finds Dr. Mann deceased on the slopes, murdered with a crossbow, everyone at the resort becomes a suspect.

I do not know how I feel about Darby and Tate. They are still new to working with each other so there seems to be a lot of disconnect in their investigating and communication. I like both characters and hope they start to gel in the next book. The characters central to this mystery add variety to the story and many have credible motives. I particularly love Tiny the St. Bernard. The mystery kept me guessing until the climactic reveal.

FRIZEN DETECTIVE is entertaining and fast paced. It can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend reading the first book in the series, DEAD-END DETECTIVE, too. I recommend this book to any Amanda Flower fan and all mystery readers.

I received an ARC of this title from the author and Hallmark Publishing through NetGalley. I voluntarily shared my thoughts here.

Darby Piper and Tate Porter have a new case. Tate’s old high school girlfriend, Cecily Madd is in town with her husband. They have rented out the most expensive lodge in the area for a big New Year’s Eve party. Cecily tells them that her husband, Dr. Garret Madd has been getting threatening notes and she wants them to uncover who is behind the threats. Dr. Madd does not want to involve the police. Cecily wants Darby and Tate to pose as a couple (awkward). The night after the lavish party, Darby is in the lodge’s gym when she notices someone lying in the snow. She finds Dr. Madd dead with an arrow in his back. Darby and Tate will need to work quickly if they want to identify the killer behind this chilling crime before all their suspects fly the coop. Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower is the second A Piper & Porter Mystery. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series. I found the story easy to read thanks to Amanda Flower’s friendly writing style. I like that we get to know more about Tate Porter. The whodunit had plenty of suspects since the victim was not well liked. There is a red herring or two to distract readers. There are clues to help readers solve the crime. I enjoyed the action which kept things lively. This was a fun mystery to solve. I thought the method of murder was unique. There is a wrap up of the crime at the end, but I was left with one lingering question. I believe this case will leave the agency in the red thanks to Darby’s purchases at the ski shop (she was not prepared for cold weather). I just loved Tiny, the Saint Bernard that belonged to the manager of the lodge. He is a sweet and clever dog. I liked the humor at the end. I wish there had been more of it in the story. Get cozy in your favorite chair with a comfy blanket to enjoy Frozen Detective. Frozen Detective is a wintry whodunit with ominous notes, an astonishing announcement, a purple parka, a dead doc, a sweet St. Bernard, a defensive detective, and a bracing blizzard.

I absolutely adore everything about Darby Piper and Tate Porter! When a former flame of Tate’s waltzes into their agency with a case for them they find themselves facing down a killer, a blizzard and the paparazzo that makes their lives miserable. Throw in the newly named detective in town who happens to be Darby’s former flame and a cuddly Saint Bernard and this is a real page turner!

They are invited to a lavish weekend at a ski resort. When the husband is found dead on the slopes the second day they are there, there are plenty of suspects for his murder. Darby Piper and Tate Porter return in a mystery at a winter ski lodge in upstate New York. This is the second book in the series and Darby and Tate are still learning to work together.
Tate's old friend, Cecily, hires him to look into threatening notes sent to her husband Dr. Madd. She invites them to stay at the lodge.
Right from the beginning things are fishy because Cecily won't let them see the threatening notes. By the next morning Dr. Madd is dead by crossbow arrow.
The book was a bit like a comedy of errors. Miscommunication abounds. And speaking of bounding, there is a fun large dog that helps to lead Darby to clues along the way, which provides some of the comedy.
The mystery is interesting and a bit convoluted.
I received an ebook and audiobook for review. The narrator of the audiobook did a good job.

Author Amanda Flower gives us another great book. I love reading her books and this one definitely does not disappoint. This is the second in the Piper and Porter Series, however, can be read as a stand -alone book.

Darcy Piper and Tate Porter take on a case for a former classmate who hires them to find out who is sending her well-known, wealthy husband threatening letters. She invites them to go undercover as a romantic couple for a week at a luxurious resort where her husband has invited many of his associates. She believes this person who is writing the letters will show up in this group of people..

Little do they know that not only are they trying to find out this information, but it soon becomes a murder investigation.

The book has many twists and turns that keeps your attention until the end of the book. You will not want to put it down until you know how the mystery is solved. I highly recommend this book for those who love cozy mysteries.

If you’re looking for a cozy mystery featuring a couple of private detectives then this books for you. Flower’s has written an incredibly well-balanced mystery making it tricky to keep the clues, red herrings and suspects straight and thus it kept me guessing to the end. Additionally, Darby and Tate are such a great sleuthing duo even as they are still getting to know each other. And it’s the perfect release for this time of year as it has tons of wintery vibes with its New Year’s timeframe and upper state New York setting. Oh and there’s a very tasty recipe included. This is book two in the Piper & Porter Mystery series, to get caught up pick up, Dead-End-Detective, the first book.

I received this eARC thanks to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Publishing dates are subject to change.

Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower. I’ve read a few Amanda Flower books, really enjoyed them and this book did not disappoint.
We meet Darby Piper who runs a private detective firm with her agency partner Tate Porter.
A friend of Tate’s, Cecily, comes into the Agency requiring their help to solve the mystery of anonymous threatening letters being sent to Cecily’s husband. Cecily and her husband are hosting a New Year’s party for friends and clients and want Darby and Tate to come to the party as a couple so they can try to figure out which person, among the guests, might be responsible for sending those letters.
This is a cute story and the characters are likeable. I really like this author and her style of writing.
I especially love the dog!!!
I believe readers will truly enjoy this cute story. And the recipe included for Goat Cheese Phyllo Puffs sounds terrific! I’ll try anything with Phyllo dough!
Thank you to Hallmark Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower is a well played cozy mystery in the Piper and Porter mystery series.

Darby Piper and Tate Porter are called upon to investigate the mysterious threatening notes sent to their clients husband. In the twisty and mysterious way, the details are less forthcoming. The setting is in a ski lodge on a New Years weekend. There are a lot of suspects when a murder takes place.

This is the first book by this author that I have read. And I really enjoyed it. It is put out by Hallmark Publishing, so you can imagine this as a movie along the way.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the Publisher and NetGalley. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

I love Amanda Flower and I enjoyed the first book. This one was just okay for me. I felt that it dragged a little too long and the mystery was just way too predictable for me. Besides Darby and Tate, I didn't find the characters to be very likeable.

I will continue with the series, if it continues and I will definitely continue reading Flower's books as I usually love them.
