I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but it turned out to be good. The author gives a warning at the beginning about graphic content like gore, murder, and flesh tearing and much more. It's a likable story, with a bit of YA content that moves quickly and has enough scary and gory moments to satisfy horror fans.
The premise of this book was interesting. Unfortunately the execution was not interesting in the least. I hated the characters. I felt like there was zero world building. I really didn't care what happened to the characters. It's too bad because I really liked this author's last book.
A post-zombie pandemic YA book about besties who now need to consume human-flesh to avoid turning feral? YES PLEASE. I don't wanna do it, but I have to do it, so I'm gonna do it: I DEVOURED this book. This book cured my summer-long reading slump.
This Delicious Death is like The Santa Clarita Diet meets Yellowjackets meets Buffy and. I love all of those things, so I was clearing going to love this. Zoey, Celeste, Valeria, and Jasmine are the ghoul besties, who stay sasieated by consuming a government-made synthetic flesh. They take a much-needed trip to a music festival in the desert, which quickly goes wrong after one of them goes feral and eats a human. When they discover other festival-goers are disappearing, they have to investigate and find out what's going on.
This book is a fun horror that won't be for everyone (the flesh consuming being one of the reasons why), but if that's not a complete turn off for you, you will enjoy the mystery, the friendships, the ROMANCE **insert heart eyes emojis**. Not only is this a fun, sci-fi horror, but there are some really good parallels to this post-pandemic dystopia to the real world. It touches on friendship, acceptance, prejudice, among other things in a subtle but impactful way.
the writing of the book wasn’t my favourite part and the story was okay, I wouldn’t say anything special but not bad either so I think it is a decent read :)
This book wasn't necessarily my cup of tea, but I can definitely see that some of my YA readers in the library will love this book. It has a super eye catching cover, and the horror readers will immediately gravitate towards this one.
Sapphic horror?! Sign me up! I also loved that this was kind of a different twist on zombies/ghouls, but kept you intrigued. I liked that we started off at a music festival and things went crazy. It was a super fun ride and I really enjoyed it!
This was fantastic! It's amusing, tragic, romantic, chompy, suspenseful, and exhilarating all at the same time. It's a cannibal love tale for the ages, and I'm all in! This is a one-of-a-kind and really brilliant book, and I'm so pleased I got to experience it!
Overall good book. I really liked the plot and the fact that there was a large representation of the LGBTQ community. I liked the characters but felt there could be more development with them and their relationships with each other - although I loved the back stories on how everyone became sick. Only other thing lacking was a better explanation for why the antagonist wanted to make everyone uncontrollably hollow/sick.
This was honestly so fun. I thought the whole book was just a really great take on this genre. The characters relationships were great and I love a good girl gang.
This book was fun and well written, but the zombie content it’s t for me. For a zombie lover this book is a win!
This was a pretty fun read - I enjoyed the vibes of friends going to a summer music festival together. They meet the headlining band at the hotel they are staying at, and underneath the main storyline is a disease strain that created ghouls (synthetic-flesh eating creatures). This is the first opportunity for fun since "The Hollowing" but it doesn't last long, because it seems someone has poisoned the air or the water, causing the ghouls to grow stronger and lose control of their hunger. Plans change and they must find an antidote before they lose their best friend.
The story was good and there were flashbacks to the time just before and during the Hollowing. The diversity rep was good. Best of all? Loved the cover!
This book was a really fun ride. Different from what I normally read and I was loving every minute of it.
Music friends and zombie like mayhem seems to speak for itself doesn’t it? A page turner that has twists at every chapter. I really liked how the story was laid out from what happen in the pass to present day.
I have to give points for originality. this book was so unique and a good twist on a typical coming of age story. I’d give it 5 stars alone for creativity. The biggest problem this book had for me was rushing. With 4 main characters all getting their own backstories, multiple romance subplots, trying to establish the world it’s set in, and the primary murder mystery plot this book never had room to breathe. It felt like things were constantly being thrown in to keep the reader on their toes and instead i wished things were more fleshed out. The epilogue was so abrupt and everything wrapped up far too neatly for the sheer amount of plot lines we were given.
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
I’ve never read a story about ghouls, so was super excited to try this one. Definitely as good as it sounds! Fast read that keeps you entertained! My one issue was that the epilogue felt kinda long.
This cover is so good. The trans rep/queer love was awesome to see and handled so well.
I’m not a zombie book fan, but I had hopes for this one. The pandemic vibes were not for me, but I hope other readers will love it!
This was a good zombie-like read! I enjoyed the storyline and it kept me entertained. It was definitely a page turner and I would definitely recommend if you like ghoul type stories!
I had a good time with this read. While it was a bit predictable at times and leaned into its YA genre, I really enjoyed the writing. I loved the descriptions of ghouls and and horror scenes. I also really enjoyed alternating flashbacks from before the hollowing. It really helped justify the character’s actions present day. Overall, an interesting twist kn a pandemic story, especially if you enjoy the horror genre!
Thank you to Sourcebook Fire and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Sapphic Zombie(ish) chick flick vibes that I LOVED. Similar to Jennifer’s Body, this is a fun flirty if not gory in parts teen horror about the trials and tribulations of having to consume flesh.
I devoured this book, it is such a good read with really good representation as well.
I didn't love it, but I think some of my high school readers will like it. I will probably purchase for my school.
Thank you to Netgalley. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Placing you in a world that's still recovering from a virus that turned a large portion of the population into flesh eating ghouls. Our characters are the infected. Headed off to big music festival a group of friends are just trying to have some fun. Except things aren't as normal as they appear. What should have been a fun weekend turns into terror when a murder happens and they are now facing a bigger threat then themselves. I enjoyed this book, it kept me clueless to what was happening up until the reveal. And surprisingly easy to follow since we are brought to a world after and in recovery from a major virus. It was a good read, but I wish there would have been more laugh out loud moments.
