When a small girl gets a letter from her big sister with the announcement of a big tapdancing show, Pickhead ignores her grandmother's words and goes on an adventure to see it.

Pickhead is called thus because she always carries a pickaxe with her. She is able to speak and understand all animal languages, and unites with her furry and scaly and feathered friends against all threats.

It was fine and I guess it will work better for younger readers. Or readers in a better mood than I am currently in. This one thing works on it's own, and I don't think I will continue on with this series.

Gorgeous book from beginning to end. Love the character of Pickhead, the subtle speculative aspects and the illustration style. Great start to a series!

Pickhead is a little girl who lives in the mountains with her Grammy. She also can talk to animals! Pickhead gets a letter from her older sister Milady, and decides, against Grammy's wishes, to go see Milady in a show she's doing....in the bayou near New Orleans.

This was ADORABLE. I love how animals along the way on her journey look out for her and keep her safe, just like she does for them. She, in a way that reminds me of the Rescuers, manages to get all the way to her sister while getting into and out of trouble and foiling the bad guys along the way. Super cute, highly recommended!

The illustrations in this book were beautiful! I loved the depictions of the animals. Pickhead is a little firecracker! I loved how she was so good to all of the animals and how they in turn helped her through her journey. The pickaxe and description of Pickhead's character were great touches . I would recommend this book to anyone that like's a good adventure with beautiful art.

"...and so you see, dear readers, when you truly believe in something, anything is possible". What a lovely comic this is. I can't imagine many children not getting caught up in reading the thrilling story of Pickhead, and her life with her Grammy in a hut high in the mountains. You can't help but love the characters in this book - humans and animals alike. Pickhead's fearlessness is magnetic, and she makes you want to be bolder and more open to new opportunities and friendships. It was a lovely story that I found myself smiling along to as I read it.

Short, fast read. Super cute though. I love her relationship with the animals. I am an animal lover so this graphic novel was right up my alley. The illustrations were amazing as well.
