This was a good story. A little bit slow in the beginning and there’s definitely some aspects of the authors writing that needs work but it was a good story to pass the time

The story really grabbed me at the beginning when Gilbert confronted a certain person. This lead me to believe that the story was to be good. The story is a fast read. It’s a page turner I believe. The characters are interesting and add excitement to the story. Until next time my fellow readers… read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I really really enjoyed this series. They were so good and fast paced. I didn’t want this book to end. I bought the series after I read the first book. I was hooked and I devoured both books.

Before you start reading just know that this is a continuation of Dead Scared so if you have not read that book I would do so before reading this!

Chris Chandler was in a juvenile offender prison and is now about to be released but there are some problems. His biggest problem is Bemishstock, Maine where they hate him and he has to run from the media. He was exonerated for his role in bringing justice but that doesn't change the communities feelings. As he is released he is offered an opportunity to stay until the DL in Vermont. He is asked to be a caretaker in Vermont and he decides to take the opportunity. The estate is small and the area the family really wants to him to also care for the graveyard. As he is doing so problems start to arise and the family has concerns. Of the families sons , who is failed playwright, is desperate to get access to the cemetery. Will be get access and why is he so desperate to get in?

I personally was not a fan of this book. It fell flat for me and I had a hard time keeping interested in the novel. It was written a lot like the other novel and that personally made me bored. I thought the idea of graverobbing and getting into a cemetery was weird and didn't fit with this book. I would not recommend.

I just couldn't get into it but I forged through and got through it. Not the book for me at all.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was a good and fast paced novel. Part of a series that I haven’t had an opportunity to read the other novels in but I enjoyed this one.

This review is for "Dead Scared." It says "Dead Silent" but the file I was sent was the first book in the series.
I don't typically have a hard time expressing how I feel about a book but after finishing "Dead Scared" by Ivan Blake, I find myself at a loss and conflicted.
With a description that mentions grave robbing, a vengeful demon and cemeteries, I figured it would be in interesting read and right up my alley.
It was off to a good start talking about the main character Chris' imprisonment. After the first chapter, Black goes into the backstory of what led to his arrest, which takes up almost all of the book.
Chris just moved to a town in Maine called Bemishstock and he's already at a disadvantage; along with being a high school student living with the struggle of making new friends, he's automatically an enemy to everyone in the town because it is his dad's job to fire people from a prominent plant in the community.
He notices the strange goings-on of his eccentric neighbor who robs graves and comes into contact with a seemingly perfect and gorgeous girl who isn't as all what she seems.
One thing I really enjoyed was the setting which was reminiscent of a Stephen King novel. It was sent in 1985 and the story was character driven. It was easy to become interested with Bemishstock and Chris' experiences.
About halfway through, Blake introduces spiritual and ritualistic practices and while that sounds intriguing, it became unclear what the main focus of the story was. I found myself wondering if it was mainly about the grave-robbing neighbor or the girl who performs rituals to make bad things happen to people. The two elements didn't seem to blend very well.
Blake leads the reader through the series of unfortunate events that make Chris' life and how he's blamed for murders and pretty much anything bad that happens in the town. I get why he did this but it seemed like overkill.
"Dead Scared" is the first book in a trilogy with the next installment "Dead Silent" now available. I do plan on reading the other two books because I'm interested to see what happens next. The ending of the first book seemed pretty solid but it seems Chris' story isn't quite over yet.

Edgy, fast paced, dark, dramatic tale.
