Oh boy, the further I got into this book, the harder it was to put down! The dual timeline and the characters connected by it kept me reading, guessing and wondering until the author skillfully tied it all together!

I do think I’ve read one other book by this author: The Lost Heiress. I don’t remember being as captivated by it as I was with this one, though she is a gifted writer.

Although my book club has wearied of WWII books especially, I don’t think I’d hesitate to recommend this one, as it is so much more than a WWII story. To me it was more a story of family and lasting connections as well as newly-formed ones. Five stars!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It takes place in 1918 and 1942, largely in Ocracoke Island. The connection between the two parts becomes clear with a few parts hidden until the end. Both parts were interesting which I think is hard to do in a time slip novel. The characters were wonderful and the relationships were deep. I also enjoyed that many characters from White's other books made an appearance or were at least referenced in some way.

This historical fiction novel highlights codebreaking in the War, the U-boats hunting ships, the hardships of living in an occupied country and more. It deals with grief and loss and love. Some of the characters were infuriating while others shown with compassion and grace.
It was so well written. It was hard to put it down. I loved it.

What an intense read!!! I finished this book on a very late school night (as it often happens) but I was entranced! This was a dual POV switching between the Great War and WWII. Both timelines flowed well together and kept me in a constant state of curiosity. I was more invested in the “Yesterday” character than the “Today” characters. The story and characters were better developed and fleshed out. I would have loved a full book with just the Yesterday’s character. They left me wanting more! Luisa and Rem being my favorites.

I felt like we didn’t get to know “Today” characters very well. I would’ve loved to know more about Evie’s story before Sterling (we only got a small glimpse). I wish we would’ve gotten to know more about Sterling; his background was briefly touched at the beginning but not much more.

This book brings back many of White’s characters from previous series bringing together White’s universe (LOL) which I loved. I was so excited to be back to the War Room and getting to read previous favorites!

The ending felt a bit rushed, everything came together a bit too fast. Maybe an epilogue to bring it all together. I would recommend reading the Acknowledgment at the end if you want to find out more about some of the characters in the book.

Overall, this was very enjoyable historical mystery/romance with many intricate twists and turns.

Roseanna M. White has done it again! Her newest faith-based historical fiction novel, Yesterday's Tides, drew me in from the very start and kept me fully engaged to the last page. It is a masterfully written book told from four points of view and set in two time periods, 1914 (World War I) and 1942 (World War II). Both stories take place in Ocracoke Island in North Carolina’s coastal Outer Banks region.
Although this sounds as if it might be confusing, I found both storylines easy to follow and filled with intriguing, well-developed characters. Those like me who have read some of White’s other books will get a special surge of joy when characters we have met previously pop into Yesterday’s Tides. However, it is not necessary to have read her other novels to fall in love with this book!
Both storylines offer a perfect blend of history, suspense, and romance that really touched my heart. As in all of White’s stories, the level of historical research that was done is readily evident, and the characters rely on God to get them through the challenges they face. The timelines weave together in the end to create a beautiful picture of grace, redemption, and forgiveness.

My favorite historical time periods are WWI and WWII so it was very exciting to have them both in one book! It did make it a little bit confusing at times to remember which story you were in since the times were close and many locations and people were the same but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment.
I loved all four of the main characters and both of the love stories. Louisa and Rem fit so perfectly together despite their differences and while I wish we could have had more page time of them together I did love their romance. And Evie and Sterling just seemed to click from the get go and I enjoyed watching them puzzle each other out and fall in love.
There was a portion of this book where someone was doing heinous things that I absolutely hated-like I was literally yelling words at the pages like the characters could hear me and do something about it. I was actively angry and it honestly lowered my enjoyment of the book for a chunk of it. I knew things would work out but the process of getting there was frustrating.
On a more positive note, I LOVED all of the tie-ins to all of Roseanna White’s other series! I didn’t even catch a couple of them but she reveals them in the note at the end! My favorites were definitely the parts with the characters from the Shadows Over England Series and The Codebreakers series!
This book was a closer nod to the Roseanna White glory days than the last several books have been and despite the hiccup in the middle the best she’s put out lately!

This is a dual-timeline story: Today- May 11, 1942 WWI and Yesterday- May 11, 1914 WWII. Both time-lines take place in the Outer Banks (I love to vacation there!), Ocracoke Inn on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina.

Time-line1914, Ocracoke Inn: we meet Louisa Adair, the innkeeper's daughter and Englishman Remington Culbreth staying at the Ocracoke Inn for the summer.

Time-line 1942, Ocracoke Inn: we meet Evie Farrow, owner of Ocracoke Inn and injured special agent Sterling Bertrand.

Both of these timelines are full of intrigue, dangerous situations, family dynamics, loss, joy, mystery, love and faith. Of course, there are unsavory characters that had me on the edge of my seat at times. There is one character that I do not like at all. What made it so sad is that they are a family member.
I like how the characters in the two time-lines are connected and the surprising ending. I love the ending! It had me in tears- of joy.

I love that so many of my favorite characters from the author’s previous book series (Culper Ring series, Ladies of the Manor series, Shadows over England series, Codebreakers series and the Secrets of the Isles series), show up in this book, especially Room 40! Those characters were woven within this story perfectly. One character in this book is deaf and learns American Sign Language (I took several years of ASL, so I especially enjoyed reading of this character and the use of ASL)

4.5 stars. Yesterday’s Tides starts as two separate stories but slowly weaves into one truly beautiful story. I didn’t want to put this book down, but I got so angry at one character about midway through that I had to keep taking breaks. I’m not sure that has ever happened when I’ve read a book before, but I take that as a trait of a good author! Despite my anger at an imaginary person (ha!), this book was wonderful; it is full of love and hope and heritage and history.

I struggled to keep the characters and storylines separate in the beginning, but I feel that was due more to my sporadic reading when I started than the book itself. I also read an ARC and couldn’t flip back to reference dates and characters like I would have done with a hard copy.

I still highly recommend this to historical fiction fans. And if you’ve read other books by Roseanna M. White, you will enjoy the cameos of characters from her other novels. Also, make sure to read the author’s note at the end!

I have always really enjoyed Roseanna's stories! I think that they are excellently written and they deal with hard topics which divine help. The way she uses divine help though doesn't feel overwhelming or pushy. It just how those characters actually live their lives which is really beautiful. This story is not exception it is my new favorite of all her stories! I've read almost all of them, but this one stands out because it ties the past and the present and you get both generational stories in one. It is a pretty simple idea but with so many complex facets! I absolutely adored Rem and Louisa's story! I liked Sterling and Evie as well but there was something about Rem and Louisa I really connected with more than I have with other stories. My one hang up is that the timeline doesn't line up. Just the ages of the babies, but if I ignore that then it is splendid!

A wonderfully written book, that weaves two timelines together in a way that flows and had me loathe to put it down. Evie and Louisa are decades apart but share a home on the North Carolinian shores of Ocracoke, they each face trials and questions about the past, as secrets are uncovered and their faith and ability to hope are tested.

A beautiful standalone that is not without reader payoff for longtime fans of Ms. White. I was swept into the heartfelt story of heartbreak, trial, and hope, and loved the family of blood and friendship that Louisa and Evie had to support them.

This book is a standout, and my new favorite book by this author, (though to be honest I haven't read a book by her that I haven't said that about!). An engrossing story that knit itself together in surprising, yet satisfying ways, shifting easily from the different perspectives and timelines, pulling me in and not letting me go. I highly recommend this amazing story of family, faith, secrets and new beginnings.

Absolutely captivating time-slip novel. With the fascinating plot twists, I could be heard gasping out loud, both stories are so good! I could not put this book down. I was completely intrigued with Yesterday's Tides by author Roseanna M. White. The best meme I saw the author share says this "In two world wars, intelligence and counterintelligence, prejudice, and self-sacrifice collide across two generations." That sums it up perfectly to me.

I so enjoyed this story set on the island of Ocracoke, part of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. This dual timeline story of intrigue, family, sacrifice, betrayal, and faith will definitely keep you turning pages!

If you like historical fiction filled with intrigue, you will LOVE Yesterday's Tides! I highly recommend it. For Roseanna M. White fans, it is so fun to see so many cameo appearances by characters from her previous stories!

Wow, where do I even begin? What a masterful story. I was instantly pulled in, captivated, and completely engaged in it. It's the kind of book where the real world fades away and the words on the page come to full-color, vivid life.

This is a dual-timeline story, but a little different from the norm since both timelines are historical, taking place during WWI and WWII. I will say that in the beginning I was more drawn to the WWII timeline, but it wasn't long before the other one grabbed me and I found myself enjoying it just as much, maybe even more. Both timelines were chock full of wonderful, authentic, and three-dimensional characters. And while it was a little hard for me to keep them all straight at first, it didn't take long before I had them all figured out.

This book started great, but, somehow, just kept getting better and better. I loved it so much and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romance.

What a refreshing take for a dual time story!
Readers are treated to a story that traces complicated relationships of family and friends who live on Ocracoke Island in 1914 and 1942. What I loved about this story is that neither an object nor letter/diary connects the two storylines. Instead, we see characters from both time periods as young and older people, eventually connecting the dots for readers.
1914 – Louisa lives and works at her family inn on Ocracoke Island, though her heritage is a complete mystery. A love story, but a tragic one leaves her believing a lie.
1942 – Evie Farrow lives with her grandmother, taking care of their family inn on Ocracoke Island. A stranger washes up on shore which sets off an interesting series of events that will eventually lead them to uncovering a horrible truth that happened in France during WW1.
A fantastic cast of characters with problems any reader can relate to, adds a splash of colour to this wartime tale. And what’s more, readers have a chance to revisit old friends from The Codebreaker Series, The Lady of the Manor series, and Shadows Over England series (though this book can be read without having read the other books).
My only negative was that the mission Evie and Sterling receives a lot of intrigue and hype, but the end result is somewhat anticlimactic. I thought there would be a lot more danger in the end. Turns out, I was wrong.
Readers who love a dual time story and are looking for a fresh take on connecting the past to the present will enjoy Yesterday’s Tides by Roseanna White.

Where do I start this review?

Do I start with the fact that I don't normally do time-slips but I have to read a new Roseanna M. White book set in BOTH world wars? How about the fact that I was going to give this four stars until about the 80% mark of the book? Or maybe I should talk about how heart-rending this book was to read. Because all of those things are flying through my mind.

This is an unusual time-slip because the two time periods are so close together and the people from the earlier time are still around. Most time-slips that I've read, (granted, I haven't read many), are decades, if not centuries, apart. So that was something that I thought was really cool. I love Roseanna's work and reading about these time periods, so I was totally going to give this one a chance.

I was trying to guess the people and connections from Evie's time back to the Great War and I did well with some and totally struck out with others. It was a fun little mystery, my own way of playing along with Sterling, I guess. While this is not a mystery book in that our characters are trying to solve a mystery, it rather is like one for the reader as pieces are revealed. Because of that, much of this book was really, really sad. There were several plot twists that I did not see coming - some that were good and some that were not so good. Like I said, until close to the end, I was so sad that I just didn't know how I could give this five stars. I mean, it's amazingly well written, but I don't love sad books. However, some things managed to change my mind.

I really enjoyed the portrayal of ASL in this book. I thought it was a neat element and added a sweetness to the story. I also really like how White portrays prayer. The first time she introduced her unique ideas of praying was in "The Number of Love" but it continues here with the coded messages and the sea glass. I just think it a cool perspective and I appreciate how she is including it in her books.

What I can't believe is that I didn't make the connection of WWI in England means CAMEOS!!!! A few were just a name mentioned, but several people from Shadows Over England and The Codebreakers are actual characters and we even see an event from The Number of Love from a new perspective in this book. I just can't recall this character being in that book and I'm wondering if I just missed them? And apparently there are cameos from her Culper Ring series (which I'm going to have to figure out a way to read) and The Lost Isles. I just love how she tied this stand-alone book into all her other books.

Roseanna does an incredible job weaving this story together. The ties are astounding - I almost need a chart to make sense of it all - and the redemption... all I can say is WOW! And I absolutely LOVED the parts with the little kids. They were so cute and the little girl's perception was precious. If only it had changed things.

This is a book of choices. Of intense love. Of family - born and found. This is a book that shows how decisions and actions have a ripple effect and how God can work good out of horrible, horrible things. This is a book that felt a lot different from the other books I've read by White but was somehow still totally her. I ended up loving it, I will read it again, and I will definitely be getting a physical copy to own. Roseanna M. White has done it again!

Yesterday’s Tides by Rosanne White is another example of why she is a best-selling author. Her writing makes it easy to follow the multiple characters and scenarios.

You cannot go wrong with Roseanne White. She has a talent for transporting readers into beautiful settings and time periods in vivid detail.

I love how Roseanne gives the characters such special skill sets. In this story we had characters that knew multiple languages including sign language. Her ability to intertwine the stories in the two time periods is beautiful.

For fans of Roseanne’s books you are going to be over the moon thrilled with the references to characters with almost all of her previous stories. The Code Breaker was my first and maybe my favorite book of Roseanne’s and I was thrilled that room 40 had a role in saving the day in this book.

What a fabulous historical read! I so loved getting to see all of my past favorite characters from Roseanna's other series here in this story. And dual-time has become one of my favorite things to read. It just feels like you get so much more from the story by getting to see the past and the present together. Wonderfully woven together in a beautiful narrative, this is a must-read for all fans of historical fiction, split-time, WWI/WWII, and those who just love a good story of family, loyalty and courage.

I really adored this sweet book and enjoyed every moment of my time reading it. It got my attention right away and held it. I read long hours into the night. The characters were so good and I really enjoyed watching them become my friends in this story (well, most of them). I didn't want the book to end. Thank you for a wonderful read. This book was a surprise.

It takes place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which I loved. Since I live in North Carolina, it was fun to already be familiar with many of the towns mentioned, and I loved learning about Ocracoke's role in World War II. Roseanna did an excellent job capturing the beauty of both our coast and our culture.

The plot was captivating. There is a split timeline, which threw me off a bit, but once I figured out who was who (and when they lived), I devoured it. The tie-ins between the two timelines were perfect, and I was kept on my toes guessing the outcome until the very end of the book.

The characters. This is where I feel like Roseanna shines, because she always does such a good job creating characters that feel three dimensional and real. These characters were especially interesting. They know code breaking, and speak multiple languages, and take exceptional care of their neighbors. This time, her characters also highlight the injustice of interracial marriage laws in America at the time, and prompt discussions on interracial marriage, the definition of family, and the importance of love. The only downside is that, because of the split timeline, it was a bit harder to get to know the main characters, especially Sterling and Rem.

Overall, this book was a surprise. I have read quite a few of Roseanna's books, as she is one of the few Christian authors whose books I consistently love, and this one was a surprise. The dual timelines and American setting were both different from her previous books, and in narrative structure and writing style it almost felt more like Amanda Dykes (who I also love). Once I got used to the differences, though, I devoured this book.

A time slip novel, encompassing both world wars. A family marked with secrets. i enjoyed both timelines, although at times it was hard to keep it all straight. This novel is a culmination of all the authors previous novels, colliding in the background of this one. Now, I have not read anything else by this author and thoroughly enjoyed this book. But it was obvious to me, that there was more to these background characters. It would probably be very exciting and enjoyable for others who have read previous novels by this authors. That being said, I had no problem following the storyline and getting sucked into their story.

I spent a little too long trying to get the pieces of the two time periods to fit in my head; with the time splits being less than 30 years apart, my brain wanted them to fit more quickly, and I think I missed out on enjoying the characters for themselves until I fit them into their slots. Once I did, I was able to enjoy the side by side tale of two wars and a continuous family thread that tied them together. I enjoyed the intelligent female characters and the men who respected them for it. I enjoyed the connection to previous works by this author to some of my favorite characters in fiction.

It did feel like it wrapped a little too quickly, but maybe that was because once I found out how everyone was connected, I wanted to enjoy those connections a little longer. Maybe I'll just have to read it again!

I give this book 4 stars. I have loved all of this author's works, and she is an automatic read for me every time she releases something new.

This is such a great read, one that once you start you want to race through it for answers, but another part of you wants to go slow and savor!

This is a time split, beginning with the Great War, and then jumping to WWII, all beginning in Ocracoke Island, NC! These generational stories include the danger of being at War, there are U-Boats, and strangers on this remote island, but what a tale the author weaves to have you holding your breath, wanting to give some a shove for the evil they are doing, and wishing you could tell them the truth!

Be sure to read the authors notes, you will have insight as to how this novel evolved! I so glad it was brought to life, and as I said I didn't want it to end!
