There were some parts I really enjoyed, like the main storyline of Lauren and James. However, I was not a fan of Esther, Miles, and Rhona. Too much drama for my taste

I think i would have liked this book better if it was focused more on Lauren and James's story, because I really liked their story. It was sweet, fun and refreshing, but it wasn't that much of it.

This book wasn't really for me. I did like some things, and parts of the story was good, I also liked the opportunity this kind of story had. The execution just didn't really hit it for me. The writing style was a bit too on the surface, a lot of the time we didn't get to experience the story with the characters, we were just told what had happened. I also didn't really like some of the characters and the way they were, and it was a little to much focus on those people.

The Man I Met on Holiday was a nice read about family and relationships. It gave an accurate view into relationships beginning later in life where you both have children who are adults.

After a promising start introducing the 2 main characters who meet on holiday in Corsica, I almost gave up partway through when unlikeable side characters kind of took over the story. I admit I was speed reading through the Esther storyline because I couldn't stand her and Miles. However, I'm glad I kept going as it turned out to be a satisfying end to everyone's story. I'm ambivalent, though - not sure I liked it overall, not sure I didn't. Not bad writing though, so this gets a lukewarm 3 stars.

The man I met on holiday is a delightful read for the new year.Fiona Gibson is one of my favourite British authors and this book is a humorous,light-heated and a joy to read. It is a book about second chances for James and Lauren and how a summer fling becomes more than that. There are also interesting relationships with James and Lauren’s grown up children and how they figure out what works in their own relationships and doesn’t.in regards to social media. I also like how the author writes about the idea of how as parents we do not realize that our kids can be independent and think for themselves and solve there own dilemmas with creative solutions. This book centres on two parents of older children who meet on holiday.
It is the story of how they maintain their relationship when they return and the issues involved in that and letting young people free.
I liked aspects of this book especially the impact of social media on young people as well as the idea of how as parents we often don't realise that our children can be independent and think for themselves.

A romantic read with a healthy bit of realism and some humour. It was refreshing to have a focus on a relationship with some older characters and all the complications that come with complicated family dynamics and merging families.
Lauren and James are endearing characters and we want the best for them but I felt the focus on James' daughter diluted him as a character and it felt like there was less focus on Charlie, Lauren's son. However, It was an enjoyable read and Fiona Gibson always provides an engaging narrative to lose yourself in.

Another belter of a book by Fiona Gibson. I absolutely adored it. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an advanced copy of this book.

James is a veterinarian practising in London separated from his wife Rhona. He dotes on his daughter Esther who is living in with her partner Miles. Lauren and James meet in Corsica while they are holidaying and solid friendship and attraction starts brewing. They both are matured, understanding, supportive to each other and want to take their relationship ahead. But have lots of concerns whether their kids will adjust to their relationship dynamics, whether they themselves will be able to accommodate to each other’s nature, whether their ex spouses will warm up to the idea of them moving ahead etc. Read ‘The Man I met on Holiday’ to find whether Lauren and James work out a way to settle together or part ways amicably…

💖 This is my first from Fiona Gibson and I really enjoyed reading this romance. It was very fresh & story flowed naturally through its course. It all felt real like all this do happen in real life, people do behave in so and so ways etc. I found Lauren and James very matured in their approach and practical too. Relationships especially new ones do demand time and attention and when not given, how it makes people feel unsecured is what the story brings out beautifully.

💔 What I did not enjoy are the side stories of Katie and Miles which were at times too stretched. Also, I found James a bit too soft on Esther all the times which was irritating but maybe single fathers tend to be like that. Also, the length could be trimmed a little to make it crisper by editing the side characters stories as they do add much depth to the plot and a 300 pager could have done wonders to my ratings.

💫 I would like to check other books of the author as she has written 16 other books (wow) & I enjoyed reading this feel good romance.

I really tried to like this book but I just couldn’t. First off, I did not like James’s daughter at ALL. She was very arrogant and annoying. I also feel like this book eventually stopped focusing on the main characters relationship. I’m not a big fan of insta love so I didn’t really like that they were together before the 100 page mark. This book barely took place on vacation which was disappointing. I really didn’t like many of the characters.

2.5 stars rounded up. I almost didn’t finish it, but I didn’t want to quit on a book so early in the year. The relationship between Lauren and James had zero buildup. They just met on vacation and fell in love 20 pages later. It was hard to get invested in their partnership and most of the secondary characters were totally unlikeable. Charlie, the son, was my favorite. He seemed to be the only one with a brain or a spine and he didn’t whine like all the others did.

This one was definitely not my cup of tea.

I read this over the festive period and it was a joyous read. The characters were relatable and you could imagine this scenario happening. The setting was stunning and I really enjoyed it. Slight slow to start but once it got going it was funny and the characters lovable. Well done and thank you for another great read Fiona Gibson.

Another well written book by Fiona Gibson. It isn't my favourite book written by her. But the setting is gorgeous and the character dynamics are well written. I just couldn't sink my teeth into it as much as I have done with Fiona's books in the past.

A light easy read.
Lauren and James meet on holiday in Corsica, Lauren is there with her teenage son visiting her parents who live there and James was supposed to be there with his 20yr old daughter but let him down at the last minute to be with her 50yr old rock star boyfriend which is very abnoxious.
The story tells of how difficult it is to continue with relationships when you return home.

This book took me a bit to get into, a little slow at first. But then it turned into an adult rom com and I liked it! Lauren and James, meet on vacation and fall hard. They each have a child with some baggage and that seems to be the “issue”…until it’s not. I enjoyed seeing the growth of all 4 main characters, especially Lauren’s son Charlie. Each of the characters had depth and I found myself rooting for them all.

4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because it was an adult romance that kept me interested, seemed very realistic, and avoided the trite tropes that rear up in this genre.

I’ve really enjoyed Fiona Gibson’s books in the past and whilst I liked her new novel, I didn’t love it. It started off well as we were transported to the beautiful island of Corsica but I found once the main characters had returned to the UK. The plot seemed to slow somewhat. I liked Lauren, James and Charlie’s characters but found Esther, Mile’s and Rhonda to be a bit of an annoyance. Im sure others will love this book but for me it was middle of the road. I wanted to like this book because of the holiday vibes but I just felt like James couldn’t catch a break, everyone was rude and the holiday itself was a very small plot. I think it’s good book but not perfect, definitely a bit of fun and I would recommend it but I wasn’t a fan of the daughter. Too many povs I think

A sweet and romantic five-star read that has much more depth than expected. Lauren and James have a very quick connection but is that connection enough when real life comes a knocking. I really liked the characters and the story flow if this one, what I didn’t like was the self-doubt that both main characters had. They both second guessed every little interaction, and I know when your older I can be difficult to know you are in the right frame when you have so much at stake, but it was a little too much. The best thing was that the whole story was great, and when they stopped second guessing the story was so much deeper and I enjoyed it so much, there were great secondary characters as well who just lit the page up when they finally got where they wanted to be.
