This was just not for me. I felt like it was all over the place. I could not connect with any of the characters. At times I felt like there were too many characters to keep track of what was going on.
Wow, that was one wild and crazy ride. I started this book during a cold winter storm and while I don't regret doing that, I feel like it added more eeriness to this book and genuinely freaked me out a few times. I loved the virus aspect and how this story was told from three different perspectives of people stuck in danger. The setting was so descriptive I was actually shivering a few times while reading this in my nice and toasty house. The ending though is what really blew me away, I'm pretty sure I said "what?!" more than a few times while finishing this book.
The only reason I'm giving it a high 3 stars is because it did take me a couple of months to finally finish this book. While none of the book was really slow or boring I just found myself losing interest a few times and not wanting to pick it back up. I'm glad I did finally finish the last 190 pages I had left because wow, that ending was fantastic.
I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.
this book was not what i was hoping it would be. i still enjoyed it but not as much as previous ones by this author
Nice spooky story. You don't know what's going on at first, but there are enough clues and mystery to keep you reading to try and figure it out.
Another good read, that could have been better with an editor involved. Some parts were very thrilling, others lacked the spark. Overall a good read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher!
I was so excited going into this book because it had all the elements I love in books; multiple povs, snowy setting, isolated.
The book started off strong but as it went on it kept going down, i started reading this on the 23rd of january 2023 and i got upto 45% after that it got boring and repetitive so i read a few pages here and there and finally decided to finish it last night.
Overall I would say it is an entertaining read but not as engaging as I would have liked.
"Drift" by CJ Tudor is a compelling thriller that blends elements of mystery and suspense in a way that keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. The narrative is well-crafted, with Tudor's signature style of dark and atmospheric storytelling shining through. The plot twists are clever and unexpected, ensuring that readers remain on their toes. However, the pacing can feel uneven at times, with some sections dragging and others rushing through pivotal moments. Additionally, while the characters are intriguing, they sometimes lack the depth that would make them more relatable and memorable. Overall, "Drift" is a solid read for fans of the genre, but it falls short of being truly remarkable, earning it a rating of three stars.
This was a great book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I read it in 12 hours, which is a lot for me to do! It had everything and more laid out in the novel! I sure hope There is more to come from this author! I am totally hooked!
Tudor never disappoints. In THE DRIFT, she upped the suspense to the point where the reader will no doubt be on the edge of their seat while reading. I love the way the author pushed the boundaries and makes the terrifying entertaining in a dark way. I will always add her to my TBR and books like this are why.
4 stars!
I really enjoyed this snowy read. Told from multiple POVs as people wake up to the ravages of a snowstorm. What happened and will they survive.
I would like to thank Random House for a digital copy of this novel via NetGalley. The Drift is set during a deadly viral outbreak. We see a society vastly affected by the outbreak, where resources are scarce and the few survivors must fight for these resources. The story plays out with three seemingly unrelated POVs. As the plot unfolds, the bonds between these stories are slowly revealed, forming a cohesive whole. This approach definitely enhanced the reading experience for me. What starts out as an end of the world murder mystery, develops into a Western-style revenge story with sci fi elements. Ultimately, the end pays off. This was an intriguing, fast paced read that is worth checking out.
This gripping novel, set against the backdrop of a winter storm, weaves together the harrowing stories of unexpected perils. The narrative unfolds with a series of mysterious and intense events, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. It’s very creepy. The pacing of the book is well-executed, with each chapter revealing more about the characters and the overarching mystery. The writing style is vivid, painting a stark picture of the wintry landscape and the isolation faced by the characters. The description of the looming danger that threatens not only their lives but humanity as a whole adds an extra layer of complexity to the narrative. Very suspenseful and I highly recommend.
The Drift was one hell of a wild ride! The story follows 3 main characters each in their own life threatening situations. Each storyline is intriguing and action packed but the real magic happens when their stories come together. My head was spinning with every twist, it's so well done!
I requested this book because I like other books by this author. Did not realise it was dystropian fiction which I normally avoid. I was very surprised how much I enjoyed this book. There are three story lines all set at various times in the future, after the world has been ravaged by a deadly virus. Infected people are isolated and killed and those that survive the virus are called Whistlers (due to their limited lung capacity) and left to live in the wilderness. There is a common character in all three story lines but the reader only finds that out towards the end of the book. Well thought out story, quite realistic (especially after the pandemic we experienced), good page turner..
Three different storylines that will converge. It's a kind of dystopian thriller, with shades of mystery and locked room scenarios I really enjoyed this and had no idea how it would go.
What a book! Just brilliant! If you love a bit of horror, this is the book for you. I've loved all of C.J Tudor's books but this one is a stand out for me. Probably because I love that kind of post-apocalyptic theme, I love anything with zombies and I know it's a bit morbid, but I also loved the virus element. The isolated winter setting, the bleak storyline and the three different strands of the story all added together to create a masterpiece of a horror thriller!
I absolutely loved this take on the post-apocalyptic zombie story. I’m a big fan of Tudor’s previous work but this one is definitely my new favorite. It was tense, twisty, and action packed, with just enough heart to keep you worried about your favorite characters.
THE DRIFT
C.J. Tudor
There are three distinct scenes to differentiate between, twenty-three characters to keep track of, and an entire world to build, which didn’t leave much room for enjoyment.
There were too many characters to effectively develop a connection with each of them. The bigness of the structure of the story bogged down the book and led to this being a mediocre experience when it could have been something else entirely.
The characters who were not dead were dying in multiple locations, it felt like the world was ending and I did not care. Which seems almost difficult to do. I have read Tudor before, and the experience was very different. I will try Tudor again but will check for high character counts before picking it up.
Thanks to Netgalley, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Ballantine Books, and Penguin Random House Audio for the advanced copy!
THE DRIFT…⭐️⭐️⭐️
An exciting book. Full of twists and turns. This takes place in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. However, this book primarily deals with people in three different times, with a twist to the zombies.
First, there's Hannah. While Hannah is on a bus with her fellow college students going to safety from a zombie-creating virus, their bus crashes in the wilderness and her group has to find a way to survive being locked in a bus during the winter. Then there's Carter, who lives in a scientific facility that is supposed to be safe, but things start to fall apart. Last, Meg goes to a scientific facility to be used as a lab rat, but the gondola traveling up the mountain stops, and her group has to figure out how to survive the cold. Meg and Hannah are the most compelling stories as their danger is more present with them having to survive in isolated locations during the winter. Carter is shrouded in mystery about himself and what is happening in his facility.
