CW: rape and sexual assault. This was very well done. A retelling of Arachne focusing on rape culture and giving a voice to assaulted women. Also a scathing indictment of power remaining in power for their own sake, not caring who is harmed. I genuinely enjoyed this and thought the writing was beautiful.

A lovely kick butt feminist novel in verse that will be recommended to patrons this summer. Another book cashing in on the mythology fad. I am for this title and have purchased it for our YA collection at the library. I do hope that if this title makes it to paperback they jazz the cover up a little as the only way I have been able to get this book to circulate is during reader's advisory sessions as it is not an attractive cover for teens.

~3 stars!~

Spin by Rebecca Caprara was a fun, easy-to-read Greek mythology retelling of the Arachne story. This is a novel in verse, which some readers will love, while others who don't enjoy poetry as much probably won't will not. I felt that verse didn't exactly detract from the novel, but I would have preferred prose. While Spin was certainly fun, it didn't stand out to me. It was promoted as a sapphic love story, but the romance really takes a backseat to the retelling of the myth. It was mostly focused on enforcing a feminist interpretation of the myth.

This book will probably appeal to the diehard Greek mythology fans out there, but it is also firmly in the young adult category. If you are looking for something similar to The Song of Achilles or Circe, this is probably not exactly what you're looking for. However, it is a great alternative for a younger readers.

Thank you to NetGallery and the publisher for allowing me to read Spin early. All opinions are my own.

This novel in verse gives a story to one of the most infamous craftswomen in our collective imagination. The humanization of Arachne in the face of great loss and tragedy makes her story all the more moving.

Stunning from top to bottom. The kind of stunning that left me thinking long after I had finished, and wanting to read whatever else this author could possibly think to write.

A strong novel in verse following the life of Arachne. Arachne narrates the story of her life. We learn the "real" story of love and loss that made her who she was. A great novel in verse.

Full confession: I did not realize this was a book written in verse when I requested it. But do you know what? It didn't matter at all. It was lyrical and smoothly written, and very easy to understand. Whilst I am often very picky on the topic of Greek myth--being of Greek decent--but I enjoyed this a lot. An oft-overlooked Greek myth tale, this wove together the strands of Arachne into something curious and interesting, and I'm very much look forward to what the author will do next.

I recommend, even if lyrical novel-in-verse books aren't usually your jam.

Big thanks to Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing for a copy of this ARC.

This was an enjoyable read. I'm a huge fiber arts nerd so it was really cool to see that represented so heavily in a book. I also love the spin (see what I did there?) it put on the myth of Arachne.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 4.5/5 stars.

I love a novel in verse. I love Greek mythology. I love the retelling of stories of women. I love all of the things this novel promised...and it delivered. This is not a lighthearted read, nor should it be considering the myth of Arachne and all of the other women in Greek Mythology. This story focused on Arachne taking back her story and her power while learning to stand up for herself. I am not as familiar with Arachne's story before the weaving contest, so some of the story had me gasping and nearly crying.

There is truly beautiful verse within it though, and I love love love how poignant and thought provoking some of the verses were - especially regarding how history tells the stories of women. There is also a queer undertone, and I wish that had been developed more BUT overall, this is a stunning, gorgeous read.

Wow y'all this book blew me away. Told in verse, this is Arachne's story like you've never experienced but how it was always meant to be told. Fiercely feminist and an affront to the Gods themselves, Spin brings forth the women's misfortune often overlooked or downright ignored in mythology.

this was a great retelling of Arachne, it had what I was hoping for in a good Greek mythology retelling. It does what I was looking for and had a interesting spin going on. Rebecca Caprara does a great job in telling the story and keeping me invested in what was going on. I'm so glad I got to read this and thought it worked well overall. I loved the cover and glad I chose to read this.

"Come with us, she implores, leaning on the sill of my open window. She rests her head on her folded hands. Give that loom a rest, Arachne."

An interesting story full of twists, turns, fun characters and overall a book I would consider reading time and time again.

Spin, spins its very own tale of Arachne from Greek Lore. This gave Arachne an in-depth back story, and delivered it in the verse-style comparable to those of old Greek epics. I loved that it gave her personality besides just being perceived as arrogant enough to thing herself greater than Athena. I did think that it was rather a slower read, something that takes more contemplation, not something you can just read through hastily.
