I love a classic retelling, normally. This one I slogged through. Little women is one of my favorite classic stories, and I love when someone is clever in a retelling. This, however, was not that. It almost ruins the original.

Love the original Little Women….this parody was horrible. Couldn’t finish this take on a favourite story.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this.

I was intrigued to read one of the classic retellings with the monster twist. However, I did not enjoy it.

This is a condensed version of Little Women and Good Wives written by Louisa May Alcott.

While I can see the appeal to readers who enjoy this type of retelling genres, it's just not my cup of tea.

If you loved Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, this is for you. Tongue in cheek, dark, but not too much, with the same text and characters you loved in the original, but with that added fantasy touch. I wanted to give it a go and will admit it was very well done. The integration was fun and worked... but then I remembered I wasn't a huge fan of the original because the March sisters actually annoy me... and this did not change them.
I think I prefer in general when stories are based on a classic, or a known tale, rather than when they are actually playing with the text so much. That lets authors modernise the characters... but then again I feel like I am in the minority and many love those 4 sisters.

I like the idea of a retelling of classic literature with a twist, this book in particular reminded me of 'Pride and prejudice and zombies'. Unfortunately I was not able to finish this story. I hoped for more action but it was more or less the same as 'Little women' with the word vampire in every other sentence. From the very beginning of the book the whole 'and they are vampires' is told way too many times.
The idea behind this book is fun though!

This was an interesting take on the classic novel, Little Women. (It's basically just the entire novel with sections added to showcase that the characters are vampires.) It's been quite a while since I read Little Women, but reading this brought back all the memories. The story is mostly the same, with minor changes. I enjoyed Jo's character the most, with her striving to become a hunter of vampire-slayers. It was a fun read, although I'm not a huge fan of reading about kittens being eaten!

I loved the idea of this book when I saw the title and read the brief description. As someone who enjoyed the likes of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, I thought I would really enjoy this. Unfortunately, it seemed that the author worked too hard to integrate the vampire element into Little Women. I couldn't even get through the whole book.

So something to know about me, I almost never read the book descriptions. I just feel that they are often like Netflix movie trailers, I learn too much even before opening my book. I pick up my books by key-words, authors, covers, friends' recommandations...
Where am I going with this?
When I saw that this is Little Vampire Women, I was thinking about retelling (like The Lunar Chronicles, Acotar, Heartless...) about one of my favorite classic. New way of looking of something not so new. I can't even express how excited I was, hoping that maybe I will finally see my main ship together (you know if you know).
But as I learned quite fast, this is what the young people call a "monster mash". And it is absolutely not for me.
I was not enjoying my reading, I kinda felt that whole story lost its logic and meaning with this ad-on storyline.

I would put one star but as it was my own fault that I didn't read the description, it is two stars from me

Is it bad that I loved this one more than I did the actual Little Women. And Little Women is one of my favorite classics. But I guess for me adding vampires to a favorite story makes it even more enjoyable.

This is a quirky retelling of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. In this retelling, Jo, Beth, Amy and Meg are all vampires along with their parents. There are the additional nuisances of their vampire family along with a few other vampire families living amongst humans and the complications that came around as a result of this. Eventually, Laurie and his grandfather, who are both humans at the beginning of the story, are turned to vampires and become part of the family along with some other friends along the way. It's an interesting humoristic take on the classic and was enjoyable.

Review:
Story: This story is a rerelease. I’ve read it before. I actually read the original story as well. It’s one of my favorite classics if I’m being honest. I was wondering how they were going to pull of certain things that happened in the classic version in this one. They were very clever about it. I was highly impressed. Especially with their spin on Beth.
Characters: I mean do I even need to gush about the popular characters from a beloved classic? My favorite character will always be Jo March. There’s just something about her energetic soul that appeals to me.
Critiques: None
Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book very much. Technically this is my second time reading it. Since it’s been rereleased though, I don’t know if I can count it. It’s been a while since I read it the first time. There is a possibility that there are additions to this version. Either way, I recommend it.

As someone who first fell in love with reading by discovering Little Women in the fourth grade, I was excited to dive into this adaptation. Let me begin by saying that if you don’t enjoy other monster mash ups of literary classics like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, then you will not enjoy this. However, if you do enjoy a little fun and campy twist on the classics, you’ll love it. I think this retelling blended seamlessly with Louisa’s work and I loved the every minute of this story.

What a fun spin on a classic!! Loved the idea of taking something so classic and giving it a fun spooky twist. This was the perfect spooky season read. I so hope the authors do more spins on classic literature in the future.

I picked this book up with the impression that this book would be filled with adventures, however, I felt that the only adventure we saw was in the penultimate chapter, where we see some sort of actions. I did not enjoy the book as much as I would hope, it was very dry, lack of adventure, and there was the constant reminder that they were campfire. The ending was very abrupt, there was no sense of proper ending is how I felt, if only there was a lot more adventure and a sturdier ending I would have given the book an average rating, but overall it just wasn’t the book for me.

Just don't understand all the negative reviews. I thought this book was a cute, funny twist on the classic. It was sad and emotional at pints, but also humorous. I loved it!

Don't expect it to be like to classic. Be open to a light humerus twist. Just enjoy it for what it is.

Recommend.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for granting me an advance copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.

Little Women is a book that I read once a year. It's my all time favorite book. I have multiple copies, in multiple languages. I've read many, many retellings, both good and bad.

This one....was just ridiculous. In the best way. Yes, vampires and Little Women are a stupid combination. Yes, it's a bit over the top. It's an insane way to retell a classic but my God, did I laugh. I laughed and laughed and laughed.

Some people are too serious to see past their own nose.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I haven’t read the original Little Women in years, so I’m a little rusty about the plot. It didn’t seem to matter though, because I still was able to enjoy this book completely. If you’re like me and struggle a little with the classics, you might find this one a good read because of the vampire theme. It added excitement to the story and I was really excited to see what would happen next. Yes, I had a vague idea since the book does follow the original, but as I mentioned, the vampire theme was a great touch.

I also want to note that if you are a fan of vampire stories in general but want something different than the same old story, you’ll find it here. Picturing the girls with fangs and imagining them debating what wildlife they’d like to spend their money on was so fun.

I enjoyed this book, and if you’re a fan of fun retellings of classics, give it a read. I think you’ll really like it!

Little Vampire Women is a retelling of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women that was part of the retelling trend of the 2010s. Overall it's not my favorite retelling as it isn't adding anything to the original story and merely replaces women/sister etc with vampire. Overall I wish there were a few more twists like you would get in other retellings.

This book, it was different from other rewrites I have read. It was as though you could turn the pages of the original alongside this one and the only difference was the word vampire inserted here and there.
I was disappointed in the book but will admit that this book will probably hold appeal to those who have never read the original!

"Christmas won't be Christmas without any corpses."

As someone who grew up reading and watching Little Women (we're talking the 1994 CLASSIC for those of you who deem it wise to argue), this was a hilarious spin on a well-loved story.

I don't necessarily recommend picking it up if you are not someone who enjoys "retellings" of classic stories. If Pride and Prejudice and Zombies wasn't for you, the likelihood of you enjoying this revamped (get it?) rendition of a beloved classic would be low. However, I would gladly recommend and hype up any of you who enjoy a unique twist on a classic.

The integration of the paranormal into the original text is well-done, leaving you with the comfort and familiarity of the original story, all the while delving into new topics, adventures and re-imagined characters and events.

"It was the height of rudeness to dine on your guests, particularly if they were your social equal. Likewise, it was unforgivably vulgar to stake your host."

Little Vampire Women was originally published in 2010, but was re-released on October 24, 2022. Thank you to The Book Whisperer, Potatoworks Press, Louisa May Alcott, Lynn Messina and NetGalley for the ARC.
