Thrillers and storylines about sisters are always fun! In this book we have secrets, a lot of suspense. We have a missing sister who we believe is not wanting to be found. Such a fun thriller!

Behind Her Lives was a great read by Briana Cole. Deven is about to identify the body of a suicide victim that she was told was her sister, Kennedy. The only thing she can say is "that's not my sister." She is filled with many questions as to who the woman is and why she was listed as family. She must also figure out whereKennedy is. She launches her own investigation to put the pieces together. The one thing she determines is that Kennedy may not want to be found. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

First time reading this author and I did enjoy the story, but the ending was a letdown. Ugh. The narrator was good and I enjoyed the way they brought the story to life.

I was given a NetGalley widget for this one a year ago and I just got around to reading it and dangit it was so good. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have consumed this wildly relevant fictional tale, which felt not at all fictional, more like historical fiction, due to the times. The cover initially was what drew me in, but I'm so thankful to have stuck with it because the outcome was magical. I always love listening to audiobooks and when they sweep me off my feet, I'm just utterly captivated! I always really enjoy multi-cultural thrillers, for I embark on a journey through a land unknown to me, while still getting spooked.

I’ve read books that have tried to do what this book does correctly. I was pleasantly surprised with the ending and the twists and turns that brought us there. I also really enjoy a mystery-thriller, especially with a premise of “that’s not my sister” when identifying a body.

It was a well written story and I enjoyed the narration.

Behind Her Lives by Briana Cole and Narrated by Diana Blue was a good audiobook However, I found it very hard to get into at first. I had to stop listening to it and then go back to it. This book is a psychological thriller which was full of suspense, secrets and sibling rivalry. Once I finally got into it, it was full of good twists and turns and all the characters were good and they bought the story together.

The narrator Diana Blue was excellent and did a really good job overall, she made this story However, I found the story lacking something....... but I did enjoy it.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free copy of Behind Her Lives in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It has subtle twists and I was constantly trying to understand how the sister could just be missing the way she was. Deven would go to all costs to uncover the truth. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery.

Deven is determined to find out where her sister is. She knows it is not the dead body in the morgue. But she just can’t prove it. Everyone believes she is dead but NOT Deven. And the further Deven delves into Kennedy’s disappearance, the more questions she has.

Deven is not a quitter, I will give her that. I enjoyed her tenacity. And the history of these two young ladies….even though they are sisters…their lives were so different!

I have never read this author before. How I have missed her…who knows!?!? But I loved this twisted tale. I had no idea who to believe. When Deven said “That is not my sister!”…I knew I was about to be in for a wild ride.

The narrator, Diana Blue, is spot on! She kept the intensity and the drama up at the perfect level!

Need a good mystery which will have you questioning everything…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

Behind Her Lives by Briana Cole will have you wanting to be a detective. Deven is told her sister, Kennedy, is dead. When shown the picture of her sister, Deven, whether in shock or denial, claims that the woman was not Kennedy.
Deven’s gut is not sitting right, and Briana Cole takes us on a journey. Filled with secrets and lies, Deven believes her half-sister is in danger, not dead. We get snippets of Kennedy’s journal, Deven’s experience with loss, and Deven’s own investigation into finding her sister.
Deven really thought she knew her sister, and the web of lies spins way out of control. Adding to that, she is dealing with her long-distance relationship with Justin. Let’s not forget the pregnancy and loss thereafter she suffered. Making her reflect on memories of her own upbringing. Equally important, Kennedy really had a busy, mysterious life. And a lot is unknown to her sister, Deven. So where is Kennedy now? Is she in trouble? Is she dead and Deven is in denial? Oh, the answers one will pay heavily for, and for what? At what expense?

All in all, filled with many pearl-grabbing moments. At some point, you will have many a suspect, and what you uncover will catch you off guard. No spoilers! You have to read Briana Cole’s book.

Behind Her Lives is a great quick read! I couldn't wait to see how the story unfolded.

Deven has been informed her sister was found dead, when she goes to identify the body she knows the body is not her sister's. No one believes her and she's forced to find out where her sister is on her own.

This story is about family, siblings, growing up, and a lot of secrets. It is compelling and satisfying.

BEHIND HER LIVES started out strong and I was really into the story, but then things fell flat during the middle, and I wasn't a fan of the ending.

In the beginning, I was hooked. I enjoyed getting to learn about the story and the characters, and I couldn't put it down. I was always looking forward to reading and finding out more.

In the middle, I felt like things stalled and weren't going anywhere. It was drawn out and there were so many red herrings to try to throw off the reader, which I'm fine with a couple, but there were a lot in this book.

Lastly, the ending seemed like it came out of nowhere, which I felt let down. After everything I read and the things thrown at me, I was hoping for a better ending than the one I read.

I'd like to read another thriller by this author in the future to see if I enjoy her work. I can't base it off one book.

Thank you for this audio ARC of Behind Her Lives. Briana Cole writes a spectacular psychological thriller and I was so excited to listen to this one play out! I found every reason to put my headphones in. The narrator did a great job of keeping my attention and portraying all of the emotions in the characters. It was very easy to follow along even at 1.5x. I really enjoyed the dual timelines and diary entries to give you a real insight of what was happening. I definitely did not guess the ending on this one and loved all the well placed twists!

4/5 stars

When Deven gets the call that every sister dreads -- her sister, Kennedy, was found dead-- she's certainly not expecting to show up the morgue to find the body is not Kennedy's, despite the coroner's insistence that it is. Questions overwhelm Deven and none of them are being answered, forcing her to launch her own investigation into Kennedy's life, past and present. She finds shock after shock and more questions surface. How well does Deven know her own sister?

This was a thrilling, fast-paced read full of drama and mystery. I was shocked by the ending and didn't predict it at all. I didn't love the narrator, which kind of hurt the book for me overall, and there were times when it felt a bit repetitive. If this book was slightly shorter and less redundant, it could have been 5/5. For now, there were elements of excellent story telling that kept me enticed throughout!

Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for accepting my request to audibly read and review Behind Her Lives.

Author: Briana Cole
Published: 10/25/22
Narrator: Diana Blue
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) -- Multicultural Interest -- Romance

Behind Her Lives starts immediately with the mystery. I like that a third of the book was not wasted. I struggled with bits and pieces of the story and had to remind myself just once, this is a multicultural interest mystery. At this point, I sat back ready for whatever ride Cole wanted to take me on.

My emotions were all over the place. The author seamlessly moved from point to point in her storytelling. Several times throughout, multiple actions are occurring simultaneously. However, not in an action adventure movie way, but in a respectful nonmedical emergency way. I noticed and appreciated, the characters were smart. There was not any stomping of feet, crying or idiotic bantering. Deven received help that she needed immediately. Again, about the Author I appreciated that she didn't dumb down Deven. The people helping Deven did so without questioning her motives based on the seriousness of the situation and time restraints.

Whew what a story. I can't imagine going to identify someone in a morgue. Then being the only person to see an error. Deven does not believe it is her sister.

The mystery was again, for lack of any other word, smart. Oh, it came together like a quality jigsaw puzzle. The actual ending was heartbreaking, and I cried. A day later, I still can choke up thinking about it, and the effects people have had on me in real life.

There is profanity. I did notice it was minimal and appeared culturally correct (given my studies and readings).

I could see myself gifting this, and recommend it to anyone on the fence.

I am speechless I can’t even explain how I feel about this book.
This was amazing I was intrigued from the very first moment I started listening it and it was so hard to put it down. I definitely just found a new book to add to my favorites list.
This is a mystery thriller about a missing sister who may not want to be found. They think she is dead but when Deven called to identify the body of a suicide victim she isn’t her sister.
This story was so interesting and shocking.
I felt so close to this not the missing sister concept but the losing a loved one. It was so hard to listen the end of the book for me I cried so much. You never realize how important a person to you until you lose it…
This was my first book by Briana Cole but definitely not the last I’m so glad I requested this audiobook and was able to read it.
The book is already been released so please check it out I highly recommend it! Also the audiobook was really good to listen!

Thank you so much to @netgalley and the publisher for providing me a AudioARC of this amazing book in exchange for my honest review and opinions.
