Interesting concept and enjoyable story. The artwork is well done matching the tone and different emotions. The title, “The Extincts” is a clue to the main theme of the book while there are more subtle and just as important themes throughout. I read it to my son who talked about the story being exciting, sad, and scary at the same time. This book is a great option for Middle Grade readers.

I really love the premise of the series and the idea of including facts about different extinct species and outdoorsy knowledge. The cast of characters are funny and it reminds me a lot of Blabey's Bad Guys series. However, the story took too long to come together and I'm not sure what age group I would recommend this to. I wanted to like it but it was just a miss for me.

The Extincts are back in a second volume of this graphic novel. After a failed try at opening an extinct zoo, Lug joins up with a firesquad trying to stop an arsonist. It turns out though the arsonist is his brother who he didn't realize was still alive.

Once we got into the main part of the story, I enjoyed this more. However, the lead up to it wasn't as good for me. I haven't read the first volume so that could be why - I didn't understand some of the backstory.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
