Such a fun summer, vacation read! I loved the enemies to lovers angst and the grumpy/sunshine opposites attract vibes. It’s a perfect beach read!

Short synopsis: Margo is a podcast host with her best friend featuring ideas to date without falling in love. When her Jo decides to get married, Margo is doing damage control by breaking all her own rules, with the best man because she just knows she'll never fall for him.

My thoughts: I did this partially audio, partially physical reading and I knew going in I'd love it based solely on the fact it was narrated by Karissa Vacker. She always knocks it out of the park, and this one was no exception!

This had moments of sweet, and the banter had me giggling for days. Perfect read for the summertime with the amazing location and all the fun that comes with destination weddings. I liked watching Margo and Declan fall for each other, and eventually compromise and learn from past mistakes.

Overall such a fun read that will make you swoon and smile.

Read if you love:
- Destination weddings
- Podcast elements
- How to lose a guy in 10 days vibes
- Enemies to lovers
- Banter for days

Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts by Kristyn J. Miller is a delightful read for fans of lighthearted, humorous romance novels that expertly blend witty banter, forced proximity, and enemies-to-lovers tropes, making it a perfect fit for anyone seeking a fun, feel-good love story.

At 45% of the way through the book, it still felt like nothing had happened. Margo and Declan hadn't really talked at all at that point, and it felt like almost the entirety of the first half was just a whiney internal monologue, with a lot of assumptions being made, on Margo's part. And a lot of internally re-hashing things that had happened to her in high school, a decade before. 🙄

By 70%, suddenly Margo and Declan were together, or at least on a date and moving quickly towards a relationship...and it felt like there was no build up to that. The pacing is so off throughout the whole book. I already have (at 60ish%) a very strong feeling about how the rest of this book will play out....update: I was pretty much correct.

Declan was a good guy the whole time and Margo was...not great. I think there are people who truly would enjoy this book! Sadly, it was not for me.

2/5 Stars

This was not the book for me. I just couldn't for the life of me get invested in this book or care about these characters. I just overall didn't really like Margo as a character and often found myself annoyed. The friendship between Go and Go was meh, it just didn't seem genuine because being honest with each other seemed like an issue for them. I would say if you're interested go for it, it just wasn't for me.

This book was about two friends that do a podcast about Seven Rules to Being Single. But one has broken the rules by falling in love and deciding to get married. The other feels betrayed and unhappy until she realizes she is falling for the best man of the wedding in which she is the maid of honor. How will their friendship end the podcast survive? But how will she face her own betrayal of her Rules of Being Single?

Thank you to Kristyn J Miller and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my review.

I received a ARC of Seven Rules of Breaking Hearts. It took me a while to get into, however then the story worked for me.
Two friends start a pod cast for rules when dating. One ends up engaged, so the other needs to pivot and revamp how their podcast will be adjusted as everything is changing.
...but what happens when she plans out details when they views do not line up any longer from their original view, and she meets someone from her plan.
I ended up enjoying the story. 3.5 stars.

Loved it! It actually exceeded my expectations, books with cutesy colorful covers make me weary these days. But this was not the fluffy read I expected, it had some pretty awesome fun characters and great themes and messages, especially in this day and age where social media plays such a big role in our lives.

It's about finding your way, battling insecurities and roadblocks, reassessing life beliefs and relationships, finding love in the most unexpected place and person. It took me a while to connect to Margo and some of her actions and stubbornness at the beginning was a bit irritating, but it all worked out in the end. It all happens on a tropical island so it's perfect summer read.

Really recommended

Thankfully this was quick read. The main characters Margo & Jo are best friends and also influencers. They have a popular podcast. Jo becomes engaged to Declan, someone Margo didn’t like in high school. They end up on a 2 week trip for Jo’s wedding.

I disliked Margo. She was very rude & it was irritating. She obsessed over the past & not being happy in the future. I almost DNF’d this but it has its quirky moments & I decided to finish it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review

For anyone looking for a summer read, this is a book I'd recommend. I really liked the podcast theme to this novel and I thought the plot was very unique and refreshing. While the plot and romance was interesting and fun to read about, I didn't love Margo, which made it hard for me to really get into this book. That's just a personal thing for me, so I would still definitely recommend this book to anyone who asks.

I ended up downloading the audiobook from my library. I was so close to finishing the audiobook but didn't find any desire to continue with it. I tried but it wasn't clicking with me. Thank you for the opportunity.

Took a little time for me to connect with Margo. I found her a little irritating at the beginning as I felt unconditional love for Declan. Definitely a great start and successful debut! Not sure I'll read other works from author.

Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts was a delightful surprise for me. I did not expect to love this one as much as I do. I adored the romcom vibes. As an avid romance reader this one really got my attention. A great summer read!

This was a cute rom-coms that well represented some of the aspects of modern dating with Internet profiles, social media, etc.

The main characters went to highschool together and are reunited at a wedding vacation of friends later in life. There were some honest moments about reflecting back that I could relate to.

Although the storyline progressed nicely and I liked the characters the butterfly and angst that keeps me reaching for rom coms wasn't there for me. It was an enjoyable read, just not my favorite.

Margo Anderson has sworn off commitment ever since her parents divorce. One month before graduation Margo found out her father had been carrying on a years long affair, and that her parents would be separating. Once her parents separated everything went downhill for Margo, grades slipped and she deferred college to help her mom financially. Never really dating with purpose after finally attending college, Margo starts a podcast with her best friend Jocelyn. Now known as Jo and Go their podcast Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts is widely popular. The ladies focus on rules for not getting too invested in relationships. Margo has been following the rules, but things change when Jo gets engaged to Peter. Now the podcast is in jeopardy, they’re losing sponsors, and to top it all off Pete’s best man for the upcoming wedding is the main jerk from high school who made things hard for Margo. Declan seemed to always go out of his way to bully and make fun of Margo. Now having to spend two weeks with him on an island preparing for the wedding is going to be torture. As the wedding plans are being made on the island Margo is forced to spend more time with Declan, and the more time she spends the more she sees he’s changed. Will Margo be able to get past all her past traumas and let her walls down? Will the podcast survive all the changes?

Thank you SMP Influencer and NetGalley for this ARC.

I typically like destination rom coms and this one has all the atmosphere and summer feels you could want. However, I had a hard time connecting to Margo. She just annoyed me and the more time I spent with her, the more I wanted to put the book down.

This takes place over the course of weeks but felt unnecessarily long. I’m not a big fan of enemies to lovers and Declan’s feelings come a bit out of nowhere for me.

This was just meh for me.

I really enjoyed this book and I love the trope where the love cynic finds love. Always a great trope and I look forward to reading more by Miller in the future.

Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts is a YES from me! ❤️

Margo and Jo host a podcast based on their Seven Rules. When Jo announces she’s getting married, Margo doubles down on the Seven Rules with a series that is intended to prove that relationships are a bad idea.

What she didn’t plan for was Declan, her high school nemesis, who isn’t quite what she remembers from way back when! A debut book well done! 🥳

This book really snuck up on me because while it seemed a lot quieter and more subtle in its intensity, it’s literally packed with quite the emotional punch. I cried several times (usually happy or just overly emotional tears), squeed, laughed, swooned and really just felt a lot while reading it. So loved it.
