I really really enjoyed this
Not only was it a solid romance, but it felt so relevant to the today + the internet age in that even though not everyone is a podcaster/social media personality, people are still expected to build a personal brand that they present to the world, and this story & main character tackled how that can become an obstacle to actually living our lives, how creating arbitrary rules and boundaries can limit us more than they fuel our success.
Also as an Angelino, I loved the LA geography and freeway name dropping lmao.
I think this would be good for fans of Mhairi McFarlane, Jasmine Guillory, and maybe Emily Henry (but this is heavier on the romance and lighter on the general fiction vibes than Ms. Henry’s books) and also just for romance fans in general because I think this was a great contemporary romance.

If you're looking for a perfect beach read, look no further than Seven Rules! The characters were fun and relatable, the tropes were tried and true favorites, and the tension was fantastic. Margo's worries and growth were almost tangible in the way they were written. Waiting for that other shoe to drop I swear you could feel her anxiety. I loved the banter and easy jokes between Margo & Declan- their chemistry was so fun to read about and I found myself cheesing along with it.

*NOTE: When I review a book, 4/5 stars for me is a great book. 5/5 would be the definition of a book I would sell my soul for/give up anything to reread.
So, this is a great book. It was intriguing and different than what I would usually read. For young adult women, what would be intriguing is the 7 Rules Podcast is similar to the popular podcast Call Her Daddy. I also love how the beginning hooks you in with a preview of Season 7, but then the story starts pre recording of season 7. Margo had a good balance of singleness and romance fear/caution without it being too overbearing or annoying. Declan was delightful. He was so enjoyable and well written. He's slightly different than the male leads I'm used too and I loved him for it.
My only complaints were it felt like a short book (length wise/page count) to span 2 weeks in timeline. I was track of time and days. The wedding (Jo and Peter) crept up on me because of the timeline.
In all, I definitely recommend as a quick and easy read. It is a good palate cleanser between larger books.

This was a fun cute read. I didn't really get into it and feel for the characters until 30% or so in but after that it kept my attention. I enjoyed the friendship between Margo and Jo and was a big fan of Declan. It was kind of fun to have the girl mess up and have to do some big act to apologize. I didn't love how often we were reminded that Declan was a ginger.

It was a DNF for me. I think this one will work well for many readers, but I’m not one of them. The lifestyle premise of the main character wasn’t something I could connect with and she seemed to talk in circles. It was too frustrating for me to engage in the story and invest.
Thank you netgalley for the advance copy.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC! I had a hard time getting into this one. I am not sure if part of it was my annoyance at the influencer lifestyle (which is funny because the main character addresses that very thing from people) or if it was because she did not seem to have enough gumption for me or if it was because I cannot find any descriptions of main male characters with red hair very swoony (sorry not sorry) or maybe because Margo seems very selfish and only focused on her career instead of allowing herself to BE at her best friend's wedding. Whatever it was, I found myself kind of slugging through this one at times and not super worried about if it worked out or not. The ending was cute, and the conflict was ok (although it was really tied in to her being selfish, so...yea). The best friend seems great, and the love interest sounded nice (pale red-head and all), but I did not love the story. FYI adult romance with sexual situations and profanity

A fun book to get lost in. A girl who swore off love to finding love in her own time. I absolutely loved this cute story and will recommend it to all of my friends!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This was such a cute book!
Margo and her best friend Jo, have a podcast about how to stay single. When Jo meets the love of her life, her and Margo have to figure out how to spin their podcast so that it can continue on with Jo now being married.
Margo’s high school enemy Declan, who is also the best man, are at the wedding together. Against everything she stands for, she decides to do an experiment to see what would happen if she tried dating him.
This book was full of hilarious moments and really likable characters. It had some of my favorite tropes, including forced proximity, and enemies to lovers. It’s was a slow burn with some great chemistry!
I thought this was a fun, cute, and easy read! I look forward to reading more from Kristyn J. Miller!

Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts
3.5 ⭐️
This book made me want to travel to a tropical island so bad—especially at this time of year!
Margo is struggling to figure out how to close out her dating podcast as her friend Jo gets married. They spend two weeks leading up to Jo’s wedding on an island with the bridal party, including Margo’s high school prankster.
I thought this was cute, I didn’t love the miscommunication that seemed a little long, but there was good character development.
Thanks to @netgalley for this eARC.

4.5 Stars
I really liked this book! The idea of the Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts definitely sounds like a podcast I would listen to, because it seems like it would be enjoyable.
There wasn’t much I didn’t like about the book. The characters were very likeable, it had its funny moments, it was really cute and those are things that just make a book that more enjoyable.
The story of Margo and Declan - has my heart. This is a slow burn/enemies to lovers trope and I always love a good enemies to lovers story.
There was a plot twist that I didn’t see coming and if I were Margo, I probably would’ve reacted a whole lot worse than she did.
I liked how the author tied everything in at the end and left nothing hanging. It was a very cute ending and I’m glad it ended the way it did.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s press for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Quick fun read. Humor was on point. Chemistry and tension from the beginning of the book. Long time crushes and a happily ever after. Plenty of life lessons we can all take away from this book.
We did receive a glimpse of some other characters....will we see more of them in books to come?
Well written and refreshing. A perfect break from the heavy stuff I often read.

Margo and her best friend, Jo, have a female empowerment podcast with Seven Rules to stay single. Jo has recently found her person and is getting married on Catalina Island, and Margo is her maid of honor. Together, they have to figure out a "spin" for their podcast to enable Jo to change her mind about being a lifelong single and for Margo to continue to move forward.
Jo's fiance's best man, Declan, who is Margo's sworn enemy from high school. A redheaded NASA engineer, is also on the island for the wedding, and sparks fly between him and Margo. She decides as an experiment to break her rules and try to get Declan to fall for her. What results is a story that kept me reading constantly until the end!
Loved this one! Will keep my eye out for Ms. Miller's work in the future.

Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts follows Margo and Jo (Go and Jo) who run a viral podcast around hooking up with men without getting your heart broken. When Jo announces her engagement, Go is left lost. What happens to the podcast? What about the 7 rules? What would happen if Go breaks the 7 rules...
.... could she find herself falling in love as well?
SRfBH was a cute romcom. I loved the relationship between Margo and Declan and their relationship was believable. Probably my favorite part was seeing Margo grow outside of her influencer personality and discover who she really wants to be.
Thanks, Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Margo and jo do a show about dating without hooking up. They are doing well until Jo decides to get married. The listeners are not happy with this news. Margo decides to appease them when she decides to date her old school nemesis. This book was a fast read.

Seven Rules For Breaking Hearts does some things right. It's a cute, light-hearted rom-com that gives its readers two fairly likable characters and a simple enemies-to-lovers story-line. But it does come with a set of it's own clichés a.k.a ofcourse the guy never really disliked the girl but had spent a good chunk of time pining over her! Most of the romance takes place over the span of 2 weeks, which makes the relationship between the lead couple progress pretty quickly. The book also contains some open-door romance scenes so proceed with caution!
Declan and Margo are decent protagonists to root for, although Margo isn't entirely likable till almost halfway into the story. She seems to spend a good amount of time obsessing over Declan's freckles and the curves of his biceps, and gives the readers a simple glimpse into how influencers and content creators are treated by the general public. We are introduced to a good chunk of side characters and friends of the couple, but aren't really given much time with them or to have them feel useful to the story-line. Most of them seem to be one-dimensional and are just...there.
All in all, it's a good quick read with some humorous moments, but it might leave you wanting a little bit more by the end.

Thanks to NetGalley for the book! Pub date is May 16!
Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts follows Margo “Go” through her best friends wedding, their podcast, and see her high school nemesis again at said wedding.
Margo and her bestie run a podcast about how to single and stay single by following certain rules, to avoid breaking other peoples hearts just not your own. With her best friends getting married their podcast needs a fresh take and Margo decides she going to start breaking some rules.
Overall I had a hard time connecting to this book. I do think the conclusion came together nicely and I enjoy the best friend, the male lead, and although I’ve read some “influencer” books I haven’t seen or heard of any surrounding podcasts. I had a hard time buying into the “enemies to lovers” at times. Margo was holding like a 10 year grudge or some silly teenage pranks. Margo’s character also was just too selfish for me at times. I enjoyed the character of Declan and honestly loved Peter as well. You do see some changes in Margo throughout the book but some of it was just a bit much for me or a little cringe.
I also just don’t understand how Declan can be an engineer working on rovers and not understand the internet or technology or what “an IP address is”. The math wasn’t mathing for me on that one. Then again, I don’t know anything about engineering, so.
Overall it was a fun rom com, with sexual empowerment and feminist themes I liked, I just personally had issues connecting to the characters!

What a great debut novel from this author! An enemies to lovers trope, this story takes place on a vacation where the male and female leads are forced together through various circumstances beyond their control. The only thing I didn’t love about this book is that the female lead is incredibly unlikeable early on. It took me a while to really connect with her, but once I did, I flew through the book.

Such a great rom-com in the spirit of “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” - kind of - if it were a podcast. Two besties have reached influencer status with rules to protect their hearts and keep the dating field level. Until one of them breaks all their rules and falls in love.
Margo and Josephine (Go and Jo) are off to Catalina island for two weeks to plan and host Jo’s wedding, while Go doubles down on the rules, and her feelings on an old high school class clown / nemesis. We all know how this is going to end, but it is such a fun trip watching it all unfold.
The dialog and banter are fantastic. I was reading this on a plane and was so caught up, I was laughing out loud and my face was showing all the emotions. My seat mate actually said, “must be a good book!” It is!
The characters are well-developed and layered giving the reader something to root for. The story also does a nice job of talking through image and reputation - does it matter?
This is a great debut and will fit right in with other rom-com favs from authors like Emily Henry or Sarah Adams.

Okay, wow! Was this really a debut?
Margo's career revolved around being perpetually single, but when her best friend gets married--the best man changes everything.
It's a big pet peeve of mine when authors force their readers to "relate" to a book--When there's no many millennial references or those things that make you say "aha that's me!" I find it annoying. Kristyn Miller found the PERFECT balance. (Loved the two GoT references) The book had just enough pop culture references for the readers to feel connected, hey not be forced to be connected. Does that make sense? Lol.
This is the absolute best beach/vacation read. It gave me ALL the feels--kayaking, zip lining, hiking...yes please. (Excuse me while I google Catalina island vacations)
Also just when I thought the epilogue would end in a basic eye roll moment just like every other romance epilogue EVER...it didn't!!!!!!!! And for that reason, I bumped my 4.5 star rating up to a 5.
I can't wait to read more from this author.

Yet another book I have mixed feelings about. Honestly, I wasn't sure I was even going to finish the book, but I'm glad I pushed through because the last few chapters redeemed the book for me. I had a hard time with this one because I just really did not like Margo at all. She was selfish, immature and seemed a little jaded and I realize that a lot of that came from her insecurities, but it made it really hard to root for her. I really felt like Declan was WAY too good for her, he was just so sweet and a little innocent, I really loved his character. The general plot was ok. I initially wanted to read the book because I thought it would be fun to see how a woman determined to stay single (to the point of having a whole podcast dedicated to the subject) would handle falling in love. Turns out she doesn't handle it well at all, which I guess is to be expected. It was truly no surprise at all when I reached the climax of the story and Margo's betrayal. But honestly, the fallout afterwards was the best part of the book for me. There was a lot of growth for Margo's character and I was equally pleased with the way that she and Declan were eventually able to work through their issues. It felt very authetic.
