I know what most people are thinking, "Only three stars?!?" Yes, I did 3 🌟 it. I absolutely enjoy Center's books, and I enjoyed this one, too. Three stars, to me, means it was a good book. It just had a few bumps along the way.
First off, I have to say that I learned something new in this book. I had no idea face blindness was a thing, and reading about it was interesting. I also really enjoyed Peanut. Then again, I'm an animal lover through and through. It also had its fair share of laughable moments. The novel wrapped up nicely in the end, but I struggled to keep going at times. Usually, I can't put a Center book down, and with this one, I had to coax myself to pick it up again. It just seemed to move along slowly for good portions of it.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC and opportunity to provide an honest review. I do recommend this book if you enjoy romance with funny moments and interesting characters.

Katherine Center is a favorite author of mine and she knocks it out of the park again with this book. I really loved learning so much about face blindness and the ways it can impact how we perceive people in new ways. Joe is simply the best and the way the story concludes had me a little misty-eyed with happiness. Sadie is truly a champion of her own life and such a strong female character. I loved everything about this book and can't wait to add it to my library!

Absolutely adore Katherine Center and all she writes! Hello Stranger was unexpected, but very sweet. Without giving too much away, the characters were very relatable and I really enjoyed the book!

I loved The Bodyguard (absolutely devoured it!), so I came in expecting a similar style. Hello Stranger had a different vibe. Overall, I'd say the tone was a bit more serious. The premise is interesting. Sadie, the main character, has to overcome a medical challenge. My eyes were opened to a new perspective and I appreciated seeing how Sadie grew through her experience.

Hello Stranger was such a fascinating read. Katherine Center does such a great job of writing things you wouldn't see in your typical romance.
Sadie Montgomery is a struggling artist who just got her big break. Or so she thinks. Something happens to her that changes things. She starts to see things differently, people differently. She and her neighbor Joe sort of get off on the wrong foot, but with time they become friends. I love animals in books and Sadie has a dog she has to take to the vet, and that's where she meets Dr. Addison.
I want to keep a lot of the other plot points vague because although I guessed the twist fairly early on I don't think everyone else will. Sadie's journey was challenging, but also fun at times. I loved watching her heal and grow certain relationships in her life.
This is one of those books that perfectly balances emotion, humor, and romance. Hello Stranger was entertaining, enjoyable, and charming. I would definitely recommend this one!

Another good read from Katherine Center! If you’re looking for a feel good book, then this is a must-read!
You meet Sadie, who recently has had some life troubles including career crisis and a diagnosis of Prosopagnosia…facial blindness. She has to learn how to depend on her other senses to find connections with people she already knows, as well as strangers. Stuck between a triangle love affair, who will she choose when she can’t see their faces?
I enjoyed the light-heartedness of the characters and the evolution of love displayed throughout the book. I did guess the “plot twist” pretty early on, but it didn’t take away from the sweet love story. This is just a feel good book that will leave you smiling in the end.

I’m not even sure how to express how much I enjoyed this book. Katherine Center writes perfect every time! This book is funny, cute, unexpected, and keeps the reader absolutely hooked the entire time. While I had an idea of how it was going to end, it concluded even better than I expected and I couldn’t stop smiling. Highly, highly recommend reading this! 5⭐️, 1🌶

Holy heck! Hello Stranger by Katherine Center is the best blend of Romance & Comedy- I woke up my husband while reading! Literally the perfect RomCom that will have you Laughing Out Loud!!!
5 stars!

4.5 🌟
Katherine Center is an auto read for me - I love her as an author and the books she writes. They always have a little more depth than romcoms and feel a bit more realistic. Hello Stranger did not disappoint!
I liked Sadie's character and couldn't imagine losing the ability to recognize people's faces. The twist in the middle was a little predictable but not too predictable. I loved seeing Sadie's growth in her relationships. Overall, a quick, easy (but not too light) read.
Thanks, Netgalley for the ARC of this book!

I was very excited to be approved for this book especially since I haven't read a Center's book in a couple of years. At the time that I had attempted one of her books, I wasn't into the romance genre like I am now. The premise of this book is what reeled me in. A woman trying to navigate her life and love life but without being able to see faces? Count me in!
I loved the beginning of this book but at about 25% it came to a slow crawl. I had to force myself to pick the book up. Center's writing tries to have this vibe of "easy" but it comes off choppy and repetitive.
The character of Sadie really rubbed me wrong. If we were friends in real life, I probably would have rolled my eyes and avoided her company like the plague. I think with all this, it made it hard for me to enjoy the story more.

After suffering from a medical emergency and unexpected brain surgery, portrait artist Sadie Montgomery discovers she has face blindness. She cannot make out people's faces, including those of her closest friends. While navigating this new reality, Sadie must also try to complete a portrait for a prestigious portrait competition. Misunderstandings and mistaken identities lead to a comedy of errors. Super fun read!

Hello Stranger follows portrait painter Sadie as she prepares for a career-making competition while dealing with an accident-induced case of “face blindness.” The main characters are thoughtfully drawn and nuanced enough to feel real, the conflicts more complex than simple mis-communication, and the resolution generally satisfying. The one exception is the character of Sadie’s sister in law / primary antagonist, who seems almost cartoonishly villainous. I recommend Hello Stranger for fans of romantic comedies - think Emily Henry, Jasmine Guillory, or Center’s previous works. This was cute. She's about to get her big break and has a potentially life saving surgery and gets a specific type of face blindness that is mostly out to ruin her life. She's a finalist in a portrait contest and can't put all the pieces together of anyone she knows, let alone strangers. She's in a loathe at first sight relationship with a guy from her building, keeps getting tricked by her evil stepsister, is in lust at really no sight with her new veterinarian, and is faking it until she makes it with everyone else.
A thing about me is that I cannot do secondhand embarrassment. If it's in a movie, I'll walk out of the room for ten minutes and come back when the scene is hopefully over. I read the second half of this book with a hand over my face like a scary movie. So kudos to Katherine Center for this book being good enough to finish.
Narrator: The narrator was great. Patti Murin did a nice job handling her range of emotions and everyone elses. Especially Joe's complete and total bafflement.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.

I adored this book. Katherine Center definitely knows how to write a romance and this one is no exception. The book was so sweet, but at the same time it was emotionally hard-hitting. Watching Sadie deal not only with face blindness, but also the mess that her life was was heart breaking at times. There were some fun twists and turns throughout the book that kept me guessing.
My favorite part of Ms. Center’s romance novels is watching the growth and character development of her heroines and this one was no exception. I will happily continue to read anything that she writes.

This book was such a delight! I think it has a little bit more dose of serious than THE BODYGUARD did (and that's the only other Katherine Center book I've read since I prefer to read romcoms over more serious/sad/dramatic romances) and I was a tad worried in the beginning when it was taking a while to get to some laughs. I really did appreciate it though! There were still plenty of swoons, cute moments, and some really valuable perspectives in this book.
I REALLY liked the concept of face-blindness in a romance story. Once the love story started to develop, I knew how it was going to go but I liked being able to see both sides of it as the reader! (I think we're supposed to be able to know/guess... the author's note at the end talks about hope and positivity in romance novels vs calling them "predictable" because they're kind of supposed to be predictable.) The face-blindness was an interesting and unique angle to use in a romance... falling in love with someone because of who they are and how they act without ever knowing what their face looks like was a fresh perspective and I always love when a romance can give you something new! I loved seeing Sadie interact with Joe and appreciating his kindness so many times without knowing that it's him half the time.
The only thing I didn't love about the book was the evil step-mother/evil step-sister thing. I'm sure some marriages and family blending does cause terrible relationships and there are tons of step-families that don't get along, but I would have rather had that be a bit less polarizing. There was some resolution there that was really heart-warming and I liked that not everything was perfectly tied up, either.
I also did enjoy that not everything was 100% perfect happily ever after to keep some more reality in this adorable book. There is still a happy finale with the romance, so don't worry there! But Sadie doesn't get everything she magically wanted and there are some real struggles, real hurdles to overcome, and relationships that get better, but aren't perfectly fixed.
This is also a NO SPICE book, which I loved. I adored the close moments between Sadie and Joe and there's some wonderful scenes to make your heart flutter and fall in love with Joe too.
I am forever here for new Katherine Center books and I loved the combination of cute rom-com and real life seriousness without either one taking over in extreme.

Whenever I read a book by an author I just adore, I always get nervous to start a book because what if the book doesn’t live up to my expectations? Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about that because I just ADORED Hello Stranger! I’ve loved every single book written by this author, and this book might now be my favorite one of hers!
Sadie, a struggling artist, lands a spot in a portrait competition that could be her big break. As she is set to celebrate with her best friend, she has an unexpected medical event and is told she will need a minor surgery. When her somewhat distant father demands she has the surgery right away, she reluctantly agrees, knowing that she will still have plenty of time to participate in her art competition. As a portrait artist, she paints faces, but when she is no longer able to see faces after her surgery, a potential side effect, she struggles to cope and hold on to her dream of being an artist.
When Sadie’s dog, Peanut, needs medical help, she rushes him to a local veterinarian office and meets a handsome vet, Dr. Addison who is able to help Peanut, and eventually asks Sadie on a date. At the same time, she starts to develop a friendship with her annoying neighbor, Joe, who seems to make his rounds in her apartment building. Suddenly, Sadie is falling for two guys at the same time, trying to figure out how to move forward with her portrait competition and facing family drama.
The character development was just phenomenal and I found myself flying through this book because I was hooked after the first chapter!

Sadie is a portrait artist who has just been named a finalist in a major competition--her career is finally beginning to take off! However, as a result of a necessary and urgent medical procedure, she develops face blindness. How can Sadie continue as a portrait artist if she can't see faces? I found the information about face blindness, the issues Sadie and others face, and the ways they learn to cope to be fascinating. The story was cute and had some good characters. Some of the story and characters were too over the top, but it still was a fun and interesting read.

Hello Stranger by Katherine Center
In Hello Stranger, Sadie suffers acquired Prosopagnosia following surgery for a serious medical condition. As a struggling portrait artist on the edge of making it big, luck definitely isn’t on her side.
On top of having face-blindness, she also has to deal with an evil step-sister, a distant dad, an annoying stepmom, and a sick 14-year old pup at the same time.
Not all is bad though, Sadie meets Joe and Oliver, who couldn’t be more different, and falls in love with both
This is a sad, sweet, funny, exciting romance. There isn’t a lot of spice here, but definitely enough heat to keep it interesting.
In the author notes section, Katherine Center describes why likes romance novels and it made so much sense to me. It’s all about hope, potential , anticipation, anticipation. They lift your spirit.
This notes section made me love Katherine Center even more! I’ll be looking for more from this author.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the advanced copy of Hello Stranger by Katherine Center. This fun little rom-com is about Sadie, a struggling artist who develops facial blindness just as she's about to start on a portrait for a huge art competition she's qualified for. It's a little predictable and a lot over the top, but who cares! A great summer read.
