This book was absolutely fantastic. I've already added it to our list for order next year and will recommend it to students.

I'm not sure this series is for me. I have a vague recall of Astro Boy, but it was a long time ago that I read it and it was mainly because it is a classic in the manga world. I decided to give this a chance, but it wasn't something that held my interest. It felt like not much happened and it relied on your knowledge of the previous series to understand it, which doesn't hold up on it's own much.

The art wasn't my thing, but it follows the original art style. From what I know, I don't think the original artist was involved in the prequel, so the art is a good imitation.

If you're a fan of Astro Boy, I would highly recommend it.

This is essentially a prequel to Astro Boy, though it can absolutely be read as a standalone series. The story is about Umataro Tenma, the eventual creator of Astro Boy, as a university student, learning about A.I. with his partner Hiroshi Ochanomizu; together, they have created A106, an autonomous A.I. robot that develops in some interesting ways. Things start a little slow, but pick up after Six starts interacting with the world, culminating in a battle tournament that has Six using an unusual technique to defeat opponents, and highlights his emerging personality. This volume sets up the series well (though it does move a bit slowly, as setups often do), and leaves us with an intriguing cliffhanger. The art is good, and pays homage to the source material. I look forward to seeing how this plays out!

I read a couple of pages of this before putting it down, and unfortunately I didn’t get back to it in time before it ran out on loan time on NetGalley, so I thought it was really good from the bit that I did read bomb. Fortunately life got in the way, so I didn’t manage to finish off this manga but I would recommend it looks really good and the cover looks brilliant

Thank you NetGalley for the copy. Even though it was very poor quality for this ebook, it was captivating and I will have to borrow it from the library to properly get emerged in the story. As I understood this is a prequel to Astro Boy, which I not very familiar with but it made me curious to try it.
