THE YEAR OF JUBILEE by CINDY MORGAN is the story of Grace Mockingbird, an impressionable young girl of fourteen, who lives in the fictitious town of Jubilee in Kansas, in the early 1960’s, where tension simmers as laws agaist segregation come into play.
Grace’s family are divided in this issue, wth her mother Virgiiaia tryig her hardest to attain a positio amongst the influential woman in town.
Grace’s relationship with her mother is broken when Virgina blames her for something that happened when she was only ten.
The story is sad in some parts and hopeful in others, The author takes us through family relaionships and emotions in a broken world.

What a wonderful novel! THE YEAR OF JUBILEE is a heartwarming coming of age story set in the 1960s in the South. The fictional setting is conveyed beautifully with a real sense of time and place.

Going into this book, I had one minor concern or question in my mind. Given the age of the main character, Grace, I worried that it would feel like a Young Adult story. However, it truly doesn't. This feels like an adult book that happens to feature a younger protagonist. It is such a pleasure to follow along Grace's journey.

The side characters are well-crafted and entertaining as well. I enjoyed Grace's relationships with friends/enemies from school, her mother, Virginia, her sister, her aunt, and of course, her brother, Isaac. I thought the way Grace related to non-relative adults in her community was believable as well.

The themes of healing and forgiveness shine throughout this story.

Cindy Morgan did a great job with this debut novel, and I look forward to more of her work.

Engaging story of a young teen in the 1960s dealing with a difficult relationship with her mother, and a family crisis as her beloved little brother becomes sick, all set against the backdrop of the civil right era south. One thing I didn't like was the use of dialect for a black character, which I don't think is appropriate for white authors to use. Still a worthwhile read about an important era in history.

The Year of Jubilee by Cindy Morgan is a beautiful lyrical coming-of-age novel set against the backdrop of the tempestuous South in the early 1960s.

Ok as soon as I read the synopsis I knew this was a book I had to read.
And I'm so happy I was able to.

The Year of Jubilee is set in the fictional town of Jubilee KY. Born and raised in Kentucky is was so nice escaping to this beautiful state again with these beautiful characters.
Cindy Morgan has created a wonderful story here and one I absolutely loved.
It was heart breaking but so damn amazing.
Grace, Grace, Grace.... I loved for her and wanted to wrap my arms around her.
Even the side characters are well written. And I adored.
I loved how authentic, real and emotional this story was.
Morgan takes readers on a journey to self discovery, adulthood and family in a way that completely blew me away.
The lyrical writing drew me in from the first page.
This is an extraordinary, powerful novel, and I hope there will be more to come from her.

A sad and exciting book all. In one. The author brings to life some of the trials faced by people with racial discrimination, that is specific to the USA but can be seen in many countries. It is such a reminder of God's healing grace that we all need.

I really enjoyed this story from Grace's point of view. Oh my!
So many things and emotions going on in this beautiful coming of age story that I was immersed in the book since page 1.
My favorite thing about this book was of course the setting! Kentucky where I used to live!
My 2nd favorite thing was the way Grace and Isaac connected and showed us it is possible to have a best friend in your half brother.
Now Grace and Sissy cracked me up. Being sisters that's natural I guess. Being an only child myself these sisters showed me what I missed out on.
The one I didn't like was Emoline. There was no sense in what she did. Some people are just plain mean no matter what you do for them.
Then there's Virginia what a piece of work! I definitely didn't like her at all!
This story was a can't put down book that I knew would be good when I seen the cover and I sure wasn't disappointed! I loved every minute.
This story shows the love and care of family and makes you appreciate what you have.
I also loved the era the story was set in. This was my mom's era.
.I thought the author did a wonderful job with the research for this book.
Here's a favorite quote because it's what Jesus would want us to do.
"To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that it was you."
Forgiveness sets your mind at peace not for the other person.
5 stars for a wonderful adventure in Kentucky! I highly recommend!
