This is very cute and cozy--perfect for the Fall, or really anytime. I loved the seeming tacit queer rep, along with all of the low-conflict shenanigans and mayhem that the main character and her new friends have to 'solve'/deal with. Can't wait to read further volumes.

This adorable graphic novel explores the sweetest themes: friendship, identity, letting go of old grudges. I really enjoyed getting to know each of the characters as they navigated varying issues in their lives.

It centered on a kitchen witch who moves into a new house. Unfortunately for her, that house is haunted, and the ghosts are very much unwilling to leave. Learning from friends that each ghost needs to resolve an issue from their past in order to move on, she sets out on a mission to help these ghosts get their happiness.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm not a huge fan of graphic novels to begin with. This one was cute and humorous. However, some of the words used like "yo" and "dang" seemed out of place for the character to me.

Witches? Familiars? A haunted house? This cute and quirky graphic novel follows a young kitchen witch (love that) named Planchette (love that as well) as she finds a house for a steal only to find out its previous inhabitants haven't left, and don't plan to! The story follows her as she makes friends with some local witches and tries to find a way to get some interesting spirits out of her new home. I really enjoyed this quick read. The artwork work is cutesy and the characters are lovable. Can't wait to read more!

Thank you to Amdrews McMeel Publishing, NetGalley and Haley Newsome for this adorable witchy read!

Just finished this adorable book!! It was so cute and beautiful. The plot was a bit messy and all over the place, but the art though... THE. ART. I was so in love with the whole thing. I still can't figure out what category of readers this belongs to, but I'd definitely recommend it for a cozy witchy time. Thank you Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cute, fun, quirky quick read. About a girl that moves to a haunted house and has to help them move on. I’ll be picking up volume 2 to find out more.

Unfamiliar blew me away. It had all the ingredients of a cozy five star read. I love sapphic romance with a touch of mystery and this story checks all the boxes. Unfamiliar follows a kitchen witch Planchette who bought a house and realizes after moving in that it’a haunted. She immediately recognizes that she needs help and goes exploring in her new town to find it. There she meets Pinyon a witch that comes from a family of powerful witches whose struggles with her magic. I loved her character. I also loved the opposites attracts hinted romance between Sun and Babs. I read this entire book in one sitting. I’m looking forward to Volume 2

A perfect Spooky read. Unfamiliar provides witchy, sisterhood vibes, a touch of humour, all paired with a vibrant and enchanting art style. Newsome creates an enticing environment with humorous yet complex characters in a fast paced environment leaving the reader wanting more. I will 100% be picking this up when it is released in December. I recommend this book to anyone seeking a witchy graphic novel that is the start of a series, provides an enchanting and diverse cast, and also has a beautiful and unique art style.

Unfamiliar is a super cute story about developing friends and confidence. The art style is also very fitting for the witchy theme and stops it from being too spooky. Though only concern I have for this book is that it is advertised as young adult when it comes across as a bit more of a middle grade book. Not that it isn’t well written, I just think that the language and style are more aligned with middle grade audiences.

Overall: A cute story that dives into some important topics for young readers, such as self-confidence and problem solving.

I thought this book was really good. The storyline was interesting and super quirky and the characters were fun. The show stopper for me was the art. I absolutely loved each character and the world they were in! Can’t wait for Vol 2 so I can find out what happens!

This was a pretty simple story that would probably appeal to kids 11-15. The art style is quite unique, tough I wasn’t a big fan of it, and the color scheme reminds you of Halloween. It would be a great book for that time of the year.

This was very cozy and wholesome.

I always love seeing sketches and drafts at the end of a graphic novel.

I'm looking forward to volume 2.

Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome is an adorable story about a lonely kitchen witch finding a place she belongs with a group of similar outcasts who all come together to help each other with their problems. I absolutely love Planchette and can’t help but to smile when she is on page and her found family are all just as charming. I can’t wait to read more from this author and will be following the publisher to find similar titles. This is a new favorite for me and I will be recommending it to my older students and my friends.

4 stars - It was really good

This was a cute comic about a witch moving into a new house to find it is haunted. She then sets about trying to vanquish the ghosts, while also getting to know the witches in her new town. This was very cute and fun. I really want to read the rest of the story now so I will probably download Tapas to see what happens next. Also, the artwork for this comic is very cute and vibrant. I really loved it.

It's a beautiful graphic novel with a kitchen witch (!!!!!!) that bought a house in a magical town. I think young readers would love this book, it has ghosts, shy siren, cursed girls, a lot of witches, beautiful friendships and A LOT OF adventures because the house is haunted!! It's a urban fantasy with witchy vibes and it's perfect for Halloween! I highly recommend and I'd love to read more!

I loved this short graphic novel. Prefect quick withcy read for spooky season. I loved all the main characters and saw bits of myself in each of them. So many cute and funny scenes. I was a huge fan of the art style. I can't wait to see what else is in store for Planchette and her new friends and hope the story continues!

This book was exactly what I needed to read right now. It’s a cute and whimsical graphic novel following a kitchen witch who moves into a haunted house, something she’s not that happy about. In her search for a solution to fix she finds three fellow magical companions - a witch who hasn’t quite found her magic yet, a hard-working girl trying to remove her curse, and a siren desperate to be invisible. I had a smile on my face basically the entire time I was reading this one, and laughed out loud multiple times throughout the book. It’s just so sweet and surprisingly relatable. It’s also quite random, but I love that. It isn’t like any other graphic novel I’ve read yet. If you’re looking for a quick cozy spooky read, then check out this one.

I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but that wasn't it. I wasn't a fan of the artwork, the story itself seemed choppy, and I thought it was just boring overall. I guess I was hoping for a sweet spooky-themed graphic novel for the season and I was just underwhelmed.
