A cozy but entertaining graphic novel about realistic witches going on their every day lives. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

This was such a fun read. Everyone, please read it. The art style is adorable the story is so sweet. It follows Planchette, a kitchen witch, who moves into her own new house only to find out it is chock full of ghosts! And she had no idea what to do!

There are other magical girls here, one who didn’t have a familiar and was talking to a pigeon and didn’t realize she was talking to it and it talking back so, she has this adorable realization that she has a familiar now and I loved it.

The character interactions were great, precious and the art style fits the story of the graphic novel. The story of a witch and the magical friends she makes. The magical animals around and the creatures they come across. The art style really suits it.

I will say this is a family friendly graphic novel as well. I can absolutely safely say I would recommend this to a very young reader, around eight or nine years old. It’s a very good read and I loved it. There’s even a little bit of diversity although all of the characters are pale but hey, this is only volume one and it’s got me hooked.

All in all, a five (5) out of five (5) for me. I absolute recommend it. Please, if you want a fun light, well done read with adorable art, this is the one.

Cute, quirky and adorable!
I had the privilege of growing up watching lavendertowne’s YouTube channel and seeing these characters grow and evolve into this beautiful graphic novel.
The art style and colours used were really cohesive but the plot felt a tad random at times and I found myself having to reread sections to understand what was happening.
I’d say this is written for 13-16 year olds but anyone with a love of witchy vibes will enjoy!

Cute but I likely won’t continue with future volumes.

When I tell you I fell in love with the graphics, I really did; I was just immersed in all the art and details. The storyline was scattered everywhere but nonetheless, I adored this book. It felt wholesome and it had realistic problems hidden as witch issues. All the characters were adorable and just lovable. This graphic book is about change, unexpected friendships, and platonic love. I read this book out loud for my little brother as a bedtime story using different character voices and it made it so much more epic. I enjoyed reading it for him and now it's attached to a core memory. This will forever have an imprint in my life and I really wished the book was longer rather than ending abruptly. I didn't get enough from this comic world.

I would love to be a kitchen witch so I can make pizza potion within seconds (OR COOKIES!)

I can't wait for volume 2 so I can see the faerie council as I only got a glimpse and it's so magical and pretty!

This is such a lovely read!
The artwork is super cute, and the story is like a warm hug filled with charm. Admittedly, I collect beautiful graphic novels, just to admire the artwork, and this one truly pulled me in - I loved the characters and style. It suited the story and tone so well. This is the perfect cosy Halloween read, great for YA but adults will adore it too!

I’m trying to read more graphic novels as they’re easy filler books but I didn’t expect to like this one as much as I did! Unfamiliar follows Planchette, a kitchen Witch how buys a haunted house. As she tries to help the ghosts move on, she befriends some interesting people who become her friends.
This was a really adorable story about friendship, family and magic. It was quirky and random at times but it still read quickly. For some reason the art style reminded me of the old show ‘Ruby Gloom’ and I have no idea why.
Overall this was a good graphic novel that I’d recommend for Halloween!

An Adorable little story about witches who may not be the strongest or most magical, but they find a way to use their powers well. A story of new beginnings and friendship. I really enjoyed this story. The art was cute and the characters were fun and endearing.

I have not read very many graphic novels, but this adorable comic about a kitchen witch definitely caught my attention!

This story follows Planchette as she moves to a new town to be around other magical beings. She quickly learns her new house is haunted and she sets out to find some help in getting her unwanted ghost roommates out.

I don’t have a lot to say about it other than it was cute, quirky, and a little chaotic (in the best way). I’ll be interested in seeing these characters future adventures!

What a delightful book! I enjoyed the story and the art, as well as the quirky characters. It is a perfect fun and cozy read with a lot of heart and humor.

What a wonderful cozy read! I loved the characters and the drawing style of the characters. It was a cute story about Planchette who moves to a house full of ghost, meet new people who try to help her get rid of the ghost and learn about some of their individual problems. These such as something how someone views themselves and learn that you are not alone and friends can help you. I really liked the little aspect of solving the cases of the ghost and why they were stuck and staying at Planchette‘s house. Overall, good read.

Planchette and her familiar, a rabbit called Winston, have just moved to a new town, one where she’s not the only witch. She hopes to meet new witchy friends.

It isn’t long before she realises why her new home was such a bargain; it turns out it’s haunted. Really haunted.

In her quest to exorcise her home, Planchette meets some new friends: Pinyon and Ari the pigeon, Babs and Marlow the cat, and Sun and Petra the lizard.

The witches all have their own insecurities and backstories. Planchette can only do magic related to food. Pinyon has only just found her magic. Babs is an introverted siren. Sun is cursed.

They may not have all known each other for very long but they’re already demonstrating that their friendship is going to be supportive and caring, with each witch using their strengths to help the others.

I enjoyed meeting some of the ghosts haunting Planchette’s new home. I particularly liked how the witches are helping the ghosts move on, although I hope some stay. What’s a haunted house without the haunts?!

I didn’t realise this was Volume 1 until the story stopped quite abruptly. This series has a lot of potential. I’ll definitely be reading Volume 2.

Planchette, a kitchen witch, is about to m0ve in her new house. Unfortunately it turns out the house is hunted and full of not always friendly ghost. Not ready to let goof the house, Planchette decides to go in the near city to find help. Thanks to her solar character she’ll soon meet a new cast of people that might help with her problem.
This comics is a cute colourful read. Loved especially all the good feelings and vibes of the characters and all the friendships moments.
Only thing I found a bit distracting were the eyes of the character, it felt a bit creepy but it’s only a personal preference, I think many other will actually find this a peculiar distinguish trait of the comics.

This is the book for all your adorably spooky reads! From the opening image (drop the pizza potion spell please!) I was squealing with delight. There will always be room on my bookshelf for an adorably illustrated graphic novel that breaks the status quo of what is expected. The multiple story lines makes it feel like I'm reading more than one book, which makes the character's world feel all the more real. I can't wait to get my hands on volume two!

I hadn't heard of the Unfamiliar webcomic prior to seeing this on NetGalley, but I'm so glad I read it!

Unfamiliar follows a kitchen witch named Planchette who buys a house in a magical town. But it turns out that she got such a good deal on it because the house is haunted. After she befriends a witch from a powerful local coven, she learns that the best way to fix the problem is by giving the ghosts closure. She also meets a siren who wants less attention and a girl who is battling a curse and working seven jobs to break that curse.

I love Haley Newsome's illustration style. Unfamiliar was simply cute and cozy from beginning to end. I'm definitely going to check out the rest of it on Tapas. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants something witchy and fun.

A fun, quirky and adorable graphic novel.

A witch, who can only perform food-related magic, moves to a very haunted house and must seek help from someone more magically accomplished to clear the spirits. This leads her to meet several magical women and to go on many adventures.

Each secondary character that is introduced is given their own strengths and weaknesses as well as a full backstory. Its nice to see the book cycle through each character’s story-line, while still always coming back to Planchette and her haunted house. Each ghost even gets their own moment to shine.

The animation in the book was really fun and colourful and can appeal to a variety of ages. This won’t be too scary for younger readers but it is still fun for the older ones as well.

I really look forward to reading the sequel and finding out where all these character’s go next!

Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome is a cute YA paranormal fantasy graphic novel, the first volume of a series originally published as a Tapas webcomic. The ebook version is 160 pages.

A young kitchen witch named Planchette bought a new house in a magical town in a great deal! However, she soon finds out that the reason it was such a steal is because it is haunted. In order to clear out the ghosts, she befriends a shy siren, a girl with a curse, and a witch from a powerful coven who appears to be magically-challenged.

This was a super cute graphic novel! The artwork is quirky and the artist makes good use of color here. If you like whimsical paranormal stories, you should absolutely check this out. This is only Volume 1 so don't expect this to be a complete story yet.

As the title suggests, each witch has a delightful familiar. Each character here is very unique and I'm very excited to read more about them in the next volume.

Unfamiliar was absolutely adorable. I loved the main characters - 2 witches who don’t believe their magic is good enough, a cursed witch, and a siren who is ashamed of her abilities - their innocence and desire to belong was really endearing, and their willingness to go out of their way for potential friends was heartwarming.

I loved the art style, and the pages in the back showing the evolution of the characters was really interesting.

I will absolutely continue this series when the next volume comes out.

This cute little graphic novel was so fun! It was perfect with spooky season. The familiars were a riot and they just had so much attitude. The art was beautiful and i found it a mix between A Nightmare Before Christmas and Happy Tree Friends. The vibe was also similar because while it seemed middle grade by the language and tone, it had those murdery-knify scenes that turned into comedy. It was same times funny, spooky and sweet.
It gives a nice message with Sun's curse and accepting yourself.
I'm so intrigued with what happened with Lucy. I want to know more.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I think it took me about an hour or so; a really easy and fun read. In my opinion, some of the lines sounded a bit "childish", I think this has potential to be a great children's book. What I loved the most about this book is the art. The illustrations are super cute and pretty!
