This is a really useful book with some nice patterns. As a beginner, I've mostly been learning through YouTube videos but this book supplements a lot of additional useful information. The patterns are simple and fun for all ages.

A Fantastic Introduction!

I made the decision to pick up crochet late last year. I bought all of the supplies, bundles of yarn, and then realized it was going to take work. Work, and patience. Even now I am still perfecting tension, chains, reading a pattern and have not completed a single project I thought I would be able to tackle right out of the gate.

Needless to say, I am not ready for amigurumi. However, I found the introductory chapter incredibly helpful. Moreso than several of the books I have picked up 'for beginners'. Simpson clearly lays out the tools, terminology, and even goes so far as to teach pattern reading. The introduction itself was enough reason for me to add this book to my permanent collection.

Once you are feeling comfortable with the foundations, this really is the most straight-forward guide to dip your toes into amigurumi. The 20 patterns start simplest to hardest giving you everything you will need to start crafting your own dolls in no time.

I asked for an ARC of this book because my wife has just started to crochet. She says she found the creatures featured here to be adorable and the patterns easy to follow.

Like the title states, this book is filled with amigurumi patterns for beginners. You'll notice that the plushies are perhaps not as cute as photos you see floating around the internet, but that's because these patterns are filled with basic stitches/skills that a beginner could feel okay attempting. The beginning of the book had a lot of great tips for beginners, especially on things like hook size, yarn weight, etc., but it also discussed different hook styles like the inline or the tapered style hooks. I think the addition of these little details might actually derail a beginner a bit, as they may then feel the need to contemplate which hooks to buy, when I personally think anything will really work for a beginner just to see if crochet is something they would like to continue pursuing. The diagrams were helpful and color coded so readers can see exactly which loop you need to insert your hook into and such.

5⭐️
A beginners crochet book with colorful “how to” pictures and 20 easy to understand patterns. My first amigurumi project were bigger than I could manage and I should have started small. The book is a great start for that. The patterns are cute with adorable animals.
I think its a nice gift for someone who wants to start this hobby.
Thanks NetGalley.

The layout could use some work. It’s tedious referring back to a long list of hints and instructions. The patterns are cute but I found the layout to be distracting for beginners. The patterns should incorporate each stitch and hint and go along from there.

With so many people staying at home these days, the needle arts have enjoyed a revival of use and craft. Amigurumi is especially enjoyed by younger crochet artists. It's quick, easy to do and you can see great results within days or less. Julia Simpson has taken the basics plus a few advanced steps and placed them all in an easy to follow manner plus given us some great patterns to share. If you have someone showing an interest in crochet, you cannot go wrong with gifting them this book, or even getting one for yourself!

All the instructions are step by step with full colour photographs to follow. The 20 beginner patterns are delightful and include cats, dogs and lots of other little animals. Overall this is a colourful book full of crafty fun and would make a lovely gift.

I found this book to be very useful. The patterns in here are easy to follow and understand. I also think there is a good variety of patterns for beginners. I think the best part is the section in the beginning of the book that includes instructions on all of the different stitches that are used.

An adorable instructional for crocheting Amigurumi creatures. Everything ranging from cats to raccoons, this guide will even help you create animals of your own imagining.

A perfect text for beginners and intermediate crocheters. The instructions are clear and well-illustrated. The projects are simple enough for the complete beginner and cute enough for non-beginners to make simply for their cuteness. A good addition to a crafter’s library.

Thank you to Julie Simpson, Callisto Media, and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Adorable little creations with step by step instructions. I cannot wait to make a few of them. The bee was easy to follow. I also plan to make the sloth and the turtle

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Cute beginners crochet book. The author did a good job with writing the patterns so everyone can understand. The little critters are super cute and would be perfect for Christmas gifts or baby showers.

This is a great book for anyone who is interested in creating amigurumi! It is great for those who have never crocheted and fun for those who have crocheted.

I really enjoyed reading the names of each creature and Nelly the nervous octopus is my favorite. I am in the process of making her by testing out the pattern and the pattern makes sense to me (an experienced crocheter).

For those who have never crocheted, no worries because there are very clear images of how to start and the steps to crochet, which makes it less intimidating!
