Absolutely love everything that Carla Kovach writes and this 12th installment of Gina Harrte was no differences!

The twists and turns throughout the narrative left me unable to sleep as I couldn't put the book down. As always thr police investigation is written perfectly and i was left trying to work out who the perpetrator was I honestly had no idea!

Always recommend, (sorry for the late review I have been dealing with a family death.) I rate 5 stars and I'm getting ready to start installment 13.

5 stars

Carla Kovach once again demonstrates her storytelling prowess in "Her Deadly Promise," the twelfth installment in the series. This gripping thriller takes readers on a rollercoaster ride through the intricacies of friendships, secrets, and the haunting consequences of choices made.

The story revolves around Billie Reeves, a character so compelling that she practically leaps off the pages. As we delve into her world, we witness the unraveling of shallow friendships and the fragility of human relationships. Kovach's ability to dissect the intricacies of these connections is nothing short of brilliant.

One of the most poignant aspects of the narrative is the portrayal of Kayden, Billie's son. Readers can't help but feel a deep sense of empathy for this character, whose life is intricately woven into the story's fabric. The emotional depth added to the narrative through Kayden's perspective is a testament to Kovach's mastery of character development.

Twelfth in the series featuring Detective Gina Harte. An exciting thriller full of twists and unexpected turns. A very good read.

The latest in the series of the novels featuring DI Gina Harte.
It what appears to be an idyllic part of suburbia, a woman is brutally murdered in her own home while her small child plays in the garden.
Harte discovers the victim had a secret, one that probably led to her murder. She then discovers that the victim’s circle of friends all have secrets too, one’s that could lead some of them to commit the murder. When the victim’s best friend disappears, there’s a race to find her before the killer strikes again.
Obviously, there is a certain amount of police procedural to the book, but it is not bogged down in it. We get to know the characters, both those doing the investigating, and the ones under investigation. Against the background of the cost-of-living crisis, and the lengths that some people have to go to just to make ends meet, this is a story rich in drama. I didn’t see the end coming and, if I’m honest, when the murderer was revealed, I thought, Hang on, how? I had to go back and re-read a chapter to find the answer to that question, so all I will say is, it’s the little details that catch killers.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Round of applause please.... once again Carla has absolutely smashed the ball out of the park and smashed it so far it can't be found.

How is this already book #12? Gina Harte now sits solidly in my soul like a distant family member and everytime I see a new installment lands in my inbox everything just has to stop and I mean EVERYTHING!

In book #12 a 4 year old boy Kayden is sat outside on the front step, being sat that for hours, after his mother Billie told him to wait outside until she says he can come inside.. unknown to Kayden his mother will never be calling him inside again.

Billie was living a life full of secrets but not all of her secrets were as private as she believed. *NO SPOILERS*

We may be on book #12 but this series has most definitely kept its edge and they just keep getting better. Every single installment is original, cleverly written and full to the rafters with tension and intrigue.

I've been lucky enough to have read this series from the very beginning and have loved watching Gina Harte grow in character throughout the series. Every installment is packed with suspense and drama that has you turning the page faster than your heart wants you to!

Huge thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Young mother Billie is discovered murdered at home, while her four year old son sits outside. There is so much for Gina and her team to investigate with this case. Plot twists will keep you guessing and you won't want to stop reading till the end. Will there be more victims before they catch the killer? Gina is still very work related and letting her personal relationships take a back seat. I wish her daughter was kinder instead of always letting Gina feel bad for everything that she does. I just would like to slap her! Another great entry.

Now, I know that HER DEADLY PROMISE by Carla Kovach is the twelfth Gina Harte novel but she’s new to me and I love her. She's a cop with a lot of heart, sympathy, empathy and hot flashes (poor thing). AND she’s having relationship problems.
When Billie Reeves is murdered, her close-knit group of friends all seem to be hiding secrets. Billie’s secret is out however; she’s been selling her body to make ends meet and be a single mom to her son Kayden. Nadia’s marriage is falling apart at the seams, Candice just wants to get her dog grooming business off the ground and Meera simply wants to continue her affairs in peace. And don’t count out the husbands…they all seem to be deep in the mire too!
As Gina Harte investigates Billie’s brutal murder (while her 5 year old is outside playing!?) there is no shortage of suspects; between the men she um..services, random strangers and Kayden’s father showing up now, after being completely absent for the last 5 years. Oh yeah, and did I tell you that Billie has been seriously dating her sister’s boyfriend? Could SHE be mad and hurt enough to kill Billie? The suspect list seems to know no bounds.
When one of the other women goes missing, it’s an all out race to find her before it’s too late.
EVERY time I thought I had this one all figured out there was another twist that I didn’t see coming which turned my certainty on its head. The quick serpentine turns in this one left my neck hurting from whiplash. The best kind of book! Gina Harte and I will certainly discuss her previous eleven cases and I hope to see her around for a very long time.

I really like how this author writes. Written from both witnesses and detectives pov, it made it very interesting. Lots of characters, both friendships and romance, lies secrets and betrayals. Number 12 in the series. I was totally blown away by the ending.

#HerDeadlyPromise #NetGalley Another excellent read in the Gina Harte series. Perfectly capable of being read as a stand alone but reading previous books in the series does give you more background on the main characters. Dark and Gripping, I could not put this book down! plenty of twists and turns that kept me changing my mind on who the culprit was. A great read and I am moving straight on to the next in this series!

Once again Carla Kovach smashes it out of the park. As usual, I am blown away by this book. It's dark and gripping - I read it in one sitting as I just couldn't put it down. It is a page turner and one to get your heart galloping. Thoroughly recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

This is the twelvth book in the Detective Gina Harte series, any of these books could be read as a stand-alone book but the series is well worth checking out. Gina is a great character, full of flaws and easy to relate to, she struggles as much as the next person wit her conscience. She is compassionate and caring with those she is close with, but aloof and standoffish at the same time with others.

Young mother, Billie Reeves, is found brutally murdered by one of her neighbours when Billie's young boy, Kayden is found sitting on the walkway all alone. As Gina and her crew try to find the killer of this beautiful young woman, they discover she has hidden a lot of secrets, that have leaked out. They also discover that Billie's mom friends are not at all who they say and the discovery that perhaps one of them could be or could know the killer becomes more and more apparent. Lots of twists and some edge of your seat drama, I always enjoy a Detective Gina Harte book. Looking foward to the next one!

Wow!! Another fantastic story in the Gina Harte series. This book contains Kovach’s signature style, excellent procedural detail, and a complex mystery (who murdered Billie, a single mother with a secret) embedded in a thrilling narrative. I especially love how relatable Gina is, and, how, in spite of her extraordinary crime solving abilities, she struggles with the everyday problems of ordinary women- menopause, workplace entanglements, and more. Another draw for me in this installment was the complex relationships among the women friends and their families. I love the drama! From the beginning, when we meet little Kayden, this story tore at my heart, had me holding my breath, and wanting to pound my fists. Kovach pulls out all your emotions while challenging your brain to solve a puzzle with many moving pieces. SUCH a fabulous read with characters you won’t soon forget! Brava!

I have always enjoyed this series. I fell 3 books behind and didn’t get the ARCs but I have bought them and can’t wait to read them soon. Luckily, having read 8 books in the series so far, I was able to fill in the gaps as far as the characters’ lives and quickly get up to speed.

Gina Harte is dealing with a personal issue and is more alone than she has ever been. However, there is no time to dwell on her personal misery as she is quickly drawn in to a complex case filled with twists and turns. Billie is a single mother found murdered in her home. She lives in a small community with a circle of friends so its hard to imagine anyone targeting her.

I love small towns as settings for thrillers. The secrets and scandals have never failed to hold my attention. There is always so much drama that makes me happy that I live in the city. In this story, there is a group of school mums whose circle is broken by the murder of one of them. Then the secrets started coming out. Ooooh, they were juicy and scandalous! I was rubbing my hands in glee as each twist dropped. This was such an exciting read.

I have always loved Detective Gina Harte. She’s grown as a character and has had her ups and downs. It was fun to reconnect with her in this fast-paced, twisty, jaw-dropping case. I truly enjoyed this one and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I was not sure if I was confused because I have not read the other books in this series but it just seemed like so many characters in a book. I did find it hard to keep straight who was married to whom and add in all the cheating, wow!
Anyway I thought the storyline was good and there were many times I changed my mind about who did it. I liked the fact that there was very little foul language but the main character and her hot flashes constantly was a little too much. Yes we understand you are hot and also having hot flashes. I would probably try another book by this author.
