🔪So many twists!😯

4-4.5🌟 stars
This story drew me in from its first pages with little Kayden and his fearful sadness. Then, DI Gina Harte gets to work and the story takes so many dead ends and turns that I really had to just let the author's writing lead me by the hand to the solution which, even now I find hard to comprehend. There are numerous victims here, but the ones that really affected me were the innocent children, caught in the web of their parents' dramas, and single mother Billie, struggling and sacrificing for her young son.

Well-written, just the right touch of Gina's private life and personal issues and a compelling case.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I have to admit I never read the series..
But this was such a terrific policy procedural book. It had all the elements needed for a great story. I might have to go back and read the others at some point too.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

Another fantastic installment in the series. I enjoy getting Gina's backstory alongside the plot. I can't wait for the next case!

In her 12th outing, DI Gina Harte is hotter than ever - metaphorically and literally! This was a fast paced read full of twists you don't see coming. I am left anxiously awaiting #13 as I need to know what happens with that ending! Well done Carla Kovach!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

I wouldn’t really call this a true police procedural, as it read more as a psychological thriller to me. We get the perspectives of a lot of characters, and there are many suspects and many twists. There are many unlikeable characters. I liked Gina and the way the author handles the premenopausal symptoms - I enjoyed reading a “non-young” character. The writing was engaging and it kept me coming back for more. I’d definitely continue the series! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

Straight off the bat I know I’m going to love the content going by the dedication. It’s the first part I always read as I just love Carla’s thoughts in her dedication notes. They are always so heartfelt which really shines through in her writing. Whatever the topic, you know she’s going to meet your expectations within the storyline. I wasn’t disappointed and really related to Gina and what she’s going through.

Connecting with the characters is always what pulls be into a book and the main characters in this one are very relatable. I love the team dynamics and love the secondary storylines in the series, which always end on a little cliffhanger. This one though, I can’t wait for due to how the epilogue ended. Talk about suspense!

Overall, a book so brilliant, I loved everything about it, the storyline was complex but I loved how the friendships crossed over and the way your thrown off course into another line of suspicion due to the confusion and lies told by characters.

Now to wait for book 13, it can’t come quick enough!

Book 12 in the Gina Harte series: Her Deadly Promise by Carla Kovach that I received from Bookouture via Netgalley. It will be out on the 2nd of December.

Intrigue and deception in a group of friends. They all appear to be close knit friends, the four of them, but there are many secrets among them. Promises have been broken leading to death and destruction of families. But who is really to blame?

This is the second book by Carla Kovach and I really liked it. The storyline is clear and quite enjoyable. The characters, with all their dark secrets, are worked out rather well. This was a great crime thriller I thoroughly enjoyed.

4,5/5⭐

Another stunningly good book in this series. The police characters are like old friends now, you really care about them. Great plot that keeps you guessing. Brilliant menopause descriptions too, something that is overlooked in much fiction. Desperate to read the next book and find out what Briggs wanted.

Another brilliant book in this series.
I’ve read all the books so far and they’re getting better and better.
Gina is struggling with her feelings for Briggs but he’s making it clear he’s moved on so she needs to learn to cope with this.
On top of this a young mother’s body is found in her home by her neighbour, while her little boy plays innocently outside.
Gina and the team start the investigation with a few people they need to speak to and the deeper they get in the case, they realise that more than one of the victim’s friends are hiding something.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

When a young single mother with a dark secret is murdered, it's up to DI Gina Harte and her team to find the killer. It is the twelfth book in the Detective Gina Harte series, but the first I've read. I had no problems connecting with Gina and other members of her team, especially DC Paula Wyre.

I really enjoyed the author's style of writing. Many of the chapters are told from Detective Harte's point-of-view and those chapters read like a police procedural novel. The other chapters are told from the various witnesses and suspects and those chapters are more like a domestic drama. There are friends, lovers, secrets, betrayals, and some pretty despicable characters in the book, but plenty to like about the story. Gina has her own drama since her boss is also her ex-boyfriend, but she tries to keep her personal life separate from the job as best as she can. I like the way Gina and her team keep with it to separate the truth from the lies in order to solve the case. The book gets off to a great start and there are few different plot twists as the story progresses, I admit to experiencing some confusion in the middle part of the book. However, things get better again and the ending of this suspenseful novel is unexpected. I would definitely read further books in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy of this ebook. It was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Kayden is waiting for mummy to finish inside the house but she never appears. What’s happened to Billie and soon the secrets unfold and Gina Harte has a web of deception to unfold.
Secrets in this close knit friendship group could lead to the answers but nothing is what it seems.
Gina herself is struggling with menopause and hormones and her own feelings which was a brilliant aspect showing how not all of the main characters need to be younger adults.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Deadly Promise’, book 12 in the Detective Gina Harte series written by Carla Kovach, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Billie supports has five-year-old son Kayden by entertaining children but during the party held by one of her friends she doesn’t realise she’s being watched by all the adults present, and it’s not only Billie who’s keeping secrets. Detective Inspector Gina Harte and her hardworking team investigate a case that becomes more complicated as evidence is revealed.

‘Her Deadly Promise’ is about four friends, one of them murdered but all four families ruined, as rumours are spread causing a tangled web of lies and secrets to become gossiped about. Gina struggles with the heat and her personal life with DCI Chris Briggs as he turns away from their friendship to the new love of his life, Rosemary. The story becomes tense as the truth is revealed and we’re left with a cliffhanger in the very last page. I can’t wait for book 13.

Wow, what a book! I haven't read any of the previous books in this series but felt it worked well as a standalone. It was fast paced and gripped me from the start. Great characters and a fantastic twist.

Carla Kovach does it again with a story of a seemingly lovely young lady murdered. The usual cast of suspects and red herrings that keep you guessing and all is neatly tidied up at the end. Plenty of modern references that make you raise an eyebrow and think,”I’m sure this is actually going on.”
Although not my favourite if her novels, still a very solid crime thriller.

Lots of secrets in this twisty tale about the hunt for the killer of a young single mother- a young single mother whose son Kayden is found outside the home where she's been murdered. Billie wasn't as well loved and her friends- or were they- weren't as good as they all wanted people to believe. And she confided a few things to others, who shared back with her. Gina Harte has a tangle on her hands (and she's got one at home as well). This has all the good twists of the suburban murder mystery combined with the persoanl life of the detective. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. I'd only read one of the preceding books but that was fine because Kovach provides back story. A good read.

Deadly promise is book 12 in the Detective Gina Harte series. How time has flown quickly since the first one.
Four-year-old Kayden is sitting outside his house at number 8 Church Road, in the hot blistering sun waiting for his mother Billie to let him in the house. Church road is a typical surburban road, where happy and friendly families live. Kayden is waiting for his mother to welcome him home like she always does but unfortunately, she never does again. Because hours later Billie’s body is found.
Detective Gina Harte is investigating her death and finds out that Billie has a lot of acquaintances that could be involved in her death even though she comes across as a happy friendly person. Even Kayden’s father that has disappeared for many years has turned up wanting to see his son. Why was Billie murdered and who will be next?
Thank you Bookoutre for a copy of Deadly Promise by Carla Kovach. This is another intriguing, well-paced and plotted thriller with lots of twists. We saw a different side of Gina in this episode a more vulnerable side. Her dealing with the menopause. (Yes, I know how Gina feels) and I liked how she added the recent subject in the cost-of-living crisis too. It made the story more believable. The is a great edition to the series. 5 stars from me.

Didn't care for this novel which seems to run around in circles. Very slow going anywhere

This was one of the better books in the series. Full of unlikable characters every one of them is a suspect. I was intrigued by the complicated relationships in the neighborhood and blamed each at one point or another. Gina and her team have their hands full with this case. And then there is that jaw dropping reveal! I was way off. I love how this author keeps me guessing. My only complaint with this series is the back and forth growth of Gina. This far in the series you would expect better of her. At times though she is no further than she was in book one. She's an excellent detective but an idiot in the romance department. And honestly I'm over it. As much as I have enjoyed this series if the next book doesn't get it together in that area I may give up on the series. It just takes too much away from the character.
