I only discovered this gripping series recently and although the boxes can be read as stand-alones I would recommend that you start with book one as there are a few minor spoilers in the later stories. The author really caught my interest on page one with a tantalising prologue and a mystery that raised more questions than answers as the book progressed. These all lead to a thrilling climax and finally some good news for the main characters. The book finishes with Ellie feeling wistful which will lead nicely into the next book I imagine.

Another amazing thriller by Rita Herron. I love this series and I loved this book. A runaway bride or a kidnapping. It’s up to Ellie and the rest of her team to find out. Can’t wait for the next book.

This was actually the best one in the series in my opinion. This series is good but not as fast paced as I usually read. Once this hit its stride I needed to know what was going on in this small town. I do like Ellie’s grit and tenacity while solving a crimes, there’s something that keeps me coming back to this series.

Also I need this Cord, Ellie, Derrick thing to wrap up. I feel bad for Cord and Ellie needs to wake up. Lol. Derrick is half in, half out. Just my opinion.

The over all story was good and kept me wanting more. I was rooting for Mia & Pixie.

Ellie is at a wedding for her friend Mia when the bride and her maid of honor disappear, leaving the brides 4 year old daughter behind. The maid of honor is found murdered but there is no sign of Mia. During the course of the investigation secrets about Mia are revealed. Has someone from her past shown up? Can detective Ellie Reeves figure out what’s going on in time to save her. There is plenty of suspense in this book along with some surprises that I didn’t expect. It is definitely an edge of your seat story. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Another great Ellie Reeves story! Thank you for this advanced copy. While Ellie is attending the wedding of a friend, she disappears and leaves her daughter behind. Bodies are found close by which are not her. Her DNA ends up being someone else. Who is Mia?? Ellie is in a race to figure out who she is, and where she is before she is killed. Some good suspense here and secrets I didn't see coming. Ending was pretty predictable but a good book!

This book has got everything. Twists and turns, scares and mystery. I loved it
This is the seventh book in the Detective Ellie Reeves Series but the first one I have read, it didn’t matter at all. Works well as a standalone.
Ellie is attending her friends wedding and looking forward to a lovely day, until the bride and bridesmaid disappear. With signs of a struggle, it’s clear that they didn’t leave voluntarily. Can Ellie and the team find them?
A terrific read that keeps you guessing.

This is the first book I have read in the Detective Ellie Reeves series and very happy to say that it can be read as a stand-alone. I really loved the fast pace of this page turner mystery and look forward to reading more in this series.
Ellie is attending her friend Mia’s wedding when Mia and her bridesmaid vanish. Ellie and her team begin an investigation immediately and soon uncover that there is much more going on in this small town that is rife with corruption and fear.
The action keeps on coming in this exciting story, with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure.
My thanks to Net galley and Bookouture for the ARC.

I love this series! Had to buy the previous 6 books. It can be read as a standalone but, having gone back and read previous books in the series, I think it's worth reading them all. The characters are likeable. The plots have enough twists to keep you guessing and the settings are described well.

Ellie’s friend Mia is getting married. What should be a celebration turns into horror when Ellie finds a mess and Mia’s young daughter locked in a room after hearing a man and her mother crying. After promising to return Mia to Pixie, she begins searching and finds one of the body of one of the bridesmaids. As she finds out more about her friend than ever before, she knows the clock is ticking to save Mia from being the next victim and to keep her promise to little Pixie.

The seventh book in the series and Ellie Reeves is still my favorite female detective! We need more strong female protagonists like this, and I’m glad Ellie is always here to answer the call. if you haven’t read one of the Ellie Reeves books, don’t wait! Each reads fine as a stand alone.

Detective Ellie Reeves is enjoying the lull in what has seemed to be a rash of violence in the town. What could be a better antidote than a wedding. Her friend, Mia, is marrying the man of her dreams who wants to adopt Mia's daughter, Pixie. When the bride and her honor attendant fail to walk down the aisle, Ellie investigates and finds Pixie locked in the bathroom and the two women missing. Ranger Cord begins a search and find the honor attendant's body in the river with a fatal gunshot wound, but there's no sign of Mia. Ellie's determination to find her friend leads her to uncovering secrets about Mia's past and discovering a nearby town controlled by a powerful and wealthy family. It's an exciting chase to rescue Mia and bring all perps to justice, mixed with personal struggles Ellie has in her love life. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Dang, small towns can be brutal. So many secrets and shady characters in The Girl in the River by Rita Herron.

Detective Ellie Reeves is supposed to be enjoying her friend's wedding. But when the bride, Mia, goes missing and her maid of honor is found dead in the river, Ellie is in a race to find out what happened before it's too late.

I liked the short chapter format and how each ended on a subtle cliffhanger. Rita Herron writes such good characters and is a solid storyteller.

The story was intense, with many twists and edge-of-your-seat action. The only implausible thing that struck me was that two trained law enforcement officers were overtaken by one woman, who got the upper hand on them even though they had come up on her and the law enforcement had the advantage. Besides that minor thing, the story was well-written. The ending has me anticipating the next installment!!

I would recommend this series and this author.

This is another installment in the Detective Ellie Reeves series, and it’s another entertaining one! Ellie’s new friend Mia goes missing from her wedding, and what follows is a pretty twisty, turny race to the end. I think the “bad guy” is pretty obvious, but there are plenty of other surprises along the way. The “relationships” between Ellie and Derrick, Ellie and Cord, and Cord and Lola continue to drive the subplot to the detective work, which I quite enjoy. There’s just enough drama without it being the focus. Overall I find Rita Herron writes a lovely mystery, I really enjoyed this one! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

I haven’t read any of the other books in the series and while they can be read as stand alone, I think that to get the complete background, the reader would need to start at the beginning. The story was good but I had two negatives, the short chapters and personally I disliked Ellie, she has a rude superior attitude that clearly grates on everyone else from their reactions and by going it alone, puts everyone in danger.

This is a book in the Detective Ellie Reeves series. It was a great read! I love the characters and cannot wait to continue the series.

Detective Ellie Reeves is attending the wedding of her friend Mia Norman when the bride disappears. Ellie knows Mia would never leave her daughter, Pixie, behind and she was so happy to be marrying Mark. What happened to Mia?

The hunt to find Mia is on when a body is found by the river. Now Ellie is searching for a killer and things don’t look good for her friend. Ellie soon learns that Mia has been keeping a secret and a past that may have caught up to her. Will Ellie get to the bottom of this case before anyone else dies?

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love this series, Ellie is such a fantastic character. Another fast paced action packed story with Ellie getting into her usual scrapes. Such a heroine I wish she would decide on her hero soon! Cannot wait for more books in this series.

Fast-moving, thrilling, tension-filled adventure! I’m thrilled to learn it is part of a series but read it initially without knowing that. Loved the mystery-solving team led by Ellie who doesn’t hesitate to leap in feet first to find the bad guys while rescuing the good ones.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this exciting ARC.

A quality fast paced read. I always enjoy Rita Herron's stories about Detective Ellie Reeves. They are always exciting and never have a dull moment.

One of my favorite series, but they are also always very creepy with rather disturbed killers...

The book starts on a sunny day where Ellie is to attend the wedding of one of her friends. Even before she even leaves her house, she is confronted with her plus one letting her down, but she decides not to let that get to her. Even though she does not like it, she does understand why.

Not very much later, the happy vibes of the day are completely thrown overboard and she turns from party Ellie into detective Ellie in the blink of an eye.

As per usual in a case, time is of essence and she and her team are doing all they can to solve the mystery.

The trail brings her to Red River Rock and people there are not very forthcoming with information. Do they not want to cooperate or is there more than meets the eye?

The sheriff should stand by them, but there seems to be something fishy going on as well. Ellie does not know who she can trust. It seems like she has a huge case on her hands.

She is determined to unravel everything and bring justice. It won't be easy, but she never stops.

In the previous book, we saw Ellie making a choice between two men to start a relationship with. In my opinion she picked the wrong one. Has she already come to her senses? Does she see now what I already saw? I hope, from the bottom of my heart, she does.

Another great new story to keep the readers entertained. The, often, ultra short chapters make it very fast paced. It feels like you are on a boat on a wild river. 5 stars

Thank you

Murder, mystery, lies, secrets, every thing I love about this series , plus it's super tense from the start to the very last page, and kind of creepy as well with how the author writes some of her characters which made me enjoy the story even more .

The Girl in the River is book 7 in the Detective Ellie Reeves Series by Rita Herron

I have one thing to say if Rita Herron ever stops writing this series I'm going to be so pissed!
I've read this since book one, I love Detective Ellie Reeves and this is one of those that I actually truly do love.
Another great addition to the Ellie Reeves series.

When Ellie's friend Mia turns up missing just hours before her wedding Ellie stats searching.
Searching the place from top to bottom, Ellie reaches the riverbank to discover someone is dead, floating beside a white veil.
As Ellie stomach stats to roll she holds her breath and turns the body over.
To discover it belongs to Tori, Mia’s bridesmaid, with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Close to the murder scene, Ellie finds something strange and Mia's engagement ring.
Now time stops as Ellie starts the search to find her friend before it’s too late.
But when forensics come back, the search takes a wild turn.
DNA is showing that Mia was actually Jesse Habersham, a woman who went missing five years ago.
Ellie is certain that Mia was running from someone. So did her past finally catch up with her?
Can she uncover the truth before something bad happens to her friend?
And when danger comes close to Pixie, Mia's daughter can Ellie save her?

The Girl in the River is a bombshell. A phenom crime thriller.
A super tense ride from the very beginning.
Well written and atmospheric read that hooked me immediately. I started to read slowly because I didn't want it to end so soon.
Written at a good pace and a very cleverly thought through plot.
Herron is the best at what she does and she does it so well!
Bringing us an excellent police procedural.
Start this series today! You will not regret it!
It's worth it alone for the gritty world the author has built and how she keeps flushing out these characters.
I read in one sitting and kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding.
Twisty, fast paced and atmospheric.
