Chase Her Shadow by D.K. Hood is book #17 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. The tension in this storyline is major. Another serial killer is in Blackrock Falls. Just what the town needs.Being Halloween time makes this case extra creepy. This time the bad guy is killing the widows of a special forces team listed as MIA in Afghanistan. The killer makes it look like these women are committing suicide. But no one can fool Medical Examiner Wolfe. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are on the job. They face danger as they pursue this serial killer. I loved this book! I also really like all the main characters and how well they work together to solve a case. This is one of my all-time favorite series and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Chase Her Shadow (Detectives Kane and Alton Book 17) review.(Thriller)

D. K. Hood writes fantastic thrillers without a doubt. Her latest book is no exception. Chase Her Shadow is book #17 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. Although I have read most of these books, they can easily be enjoyed as stand-alones.

Synopsis:
Halloween is just a few days away in Black Rock Falls. Deputy David Kane and Sheriff Jenna Alton are called to a small lodge outside of town. While there they discover the dead body of Willow Smith. Several years ago, Willow's husband was declared missing in action and is presumed dead. Jenna and Alton are determined to get to the bottom of this strange death. Did Willow commit suicide? Was she murdered?

Chase Her Shadow is a bit different from the other books in the series, but still enjoyable. The main characters Kane and Alton are always a thrill to revisit. The books are quick intriguing reads that can be finished in a day.

Chase Her Shadow is available on December 9th.
4.25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing this book with me. I look forward to reading book 18.

You cannot go wrong with this series. Thriller, suspense and creepy in so many ways. Chase Her Shadow delivers all that as well our favorite Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane. This book takes place at Halloween in what the media (and the readers - ha) declare Serial Killer Central. Military widows are being murdered all from the same unit. That means no assistance from the military as the whole unit died. No survivors. As Jenna and Dave and team investigate we are treated to noises from old houses, twisty roads, hollers with wind tearing through and ghost tales to boot. We get help from Special Agent Jo Wells and get to meet the computer guru. What about the info that Wolfe shares with Kane? Scary possibilities. You could read this as a standalone because if is provided so your not lost, but I highly recommend reading the series in order. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #Chasehershadow #kaneandaton #Dkhood #bookouture #netgalley

I really like the covers of this series. Very detailed. Chase Her Shadow (Detectives Kane and Alton Book 17) by D. K. Hood starts off with a bang.

It’s Halloween in Black Rock Falls, and Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane are called to a small lodge on the outskirts of town. Jenna is devastated to find the lifeless body of Willow Smith, a military widow whose husband went missing in action and has been presumed dead for years. And so the story begins. The story is a bit creepy and fairly fast-paced. The effects are written well so that you feel right in the middle of the scenes with the characters.

The author includes interesting story history. Another good suspense and story and character-driven plot. I would recommend starting with book 1 to get to know the characters. Overall, a good story. I would recommend it.

Chase Her Shadow by D. K. Hood was a great and creepy story. Widows of soldiers that went M.I.A. seven years ago are being murdered.. Before they were killed the women said they were getting strange phone calls around midnight saying it was their husbands and also claiming they saw ghosts. This was a wonderful book and I highly recommend you read it, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for my Arc.

OMFG......When I tell you the last few chapters I was on the edge of my seat!!!! .

Did anyone else think Jenna was pregnant the entire time 😬🤔 I feel like that's coming. Things were hinted lol

Love this series and this one was definitely a creepy factor especially during Halloween time.

Thanks Netgalley!!

This series and author are at the top of my must read list and this book is a prime example of why. Jenna and Kane can't seem to catch a break. This case in particular tugged my heartstrings. There were a few times I found myself holding my breath. These characters have come to feel like friends and I'm so invested in them and the town. Everytime I finish one I'm excited for the next. There were so many surprising twists in this book! These stories just keep getting better.

Just when you think that the serial killer cannot get any colder, D.K Hood serves up a character who was seriously disturbed before PTSD set in. He is cold, calculated and a loner.

Another great suspense and page turner and reading around Veterans Day, I think it heightened the storyline around the sacrifice of those that serve, the families they leave behind, the connection that is made between those on a team and their loyalty to each other.

The full cast of characters make an appearance and there is a new addition to the ME's office who we will no doubt see more of in books to come. A happy ending with everyone able to enjoy the Halloween celebrations this time around.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Another brilliant book in this amazing series. Hooked from the first page as always I couldn't read it fast enough. I just love Jenna and the relationships she has with Kane and the rest of her team. This is a bit spooky as set round halloween but is a great storyline. It can be read as a stand alone but I think its better to read the books in order to get the background as its such a brilliant series. I highly recommend this book/series and author 1000%. I can't wait for the next instalment.

Absolutely love this series! I was hooked at the very beginning of this book and it was hard to put down. Fast paced and definitely an entertaining read. Jenna was at her best!

It's Halloween in Black Rock Falls and things are getting spooky. The mysterious deaths of two military wives have Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane looking at all the possibilities. At first glance, these women's deaths appear to be suicides, but both women claim to have been getting late night visits from their dead husbands. Is something supernatural going on or a dark, Halloween prank?

This book was another great addition to the series. I loved the spooky elements of Halloween in Black Rock Falls. Get ready for another sleepless night with Kane and Alton!

Widows are dying, found with their MIA soldier husband's purple hearts pinned to them. The manner of death varies, an attempt made for them to appear as suicides. A serial killer is preying on grieving widows.

Chase Her Shadow is #17 in the Kane and Alton detective series - while this novel can be read stand alone, I would highly recommend starting at the beginning. While the plot line itself is entertaining enough, I found myself wondering how these characters were known to one another - the relationships not particularly clear but many of them obviously have a history. I enjoyed it enough to complete the book but suspect it would have been far more enjoyable had I started with book one of the series.

This is book #17 of the Kane & Alton series. Whilst part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book, although I would recommend reading the books in series order. I wish I had read this a week earlier, as it has a definite Halloween vibe to it, and to be honest it did really give me the creeps at times. We are back in Serial Killer Central where it appears a military trained killer is on the loose. This coupled with the creepy houses, spooky woods and phone calls from dead husbands was enough to set my nerves on edge right from the beginning!

The book begins straight into the action meeting military widow, Willow Smith. From then on, we are taken on a rollercoaster of a plot when the killer targets more women around the county. Our usual favourite characters are all back although there seems to be a lot going on with them. Deputy Dave and Sheriff Jenna are still happily married, but Jenna is a little out of character – I half expected an announcement of some sort throughout the book, but I shall wait with bated breath to see what happens there! Wolfe may finally have some happiness, and well, what can I say about Ty Carter?!! He certainly had me biting my nails! There were lots of little storylines running alongside the main plot which kept everything fast flowing and exciting without taking too much focus away from trying to work out who the serial killer was! Like the other books of the series, there are lots of red herrings and dead ends, giving you plenty of people to point the finger of suspicion at as the plot moves along! The author is so clever at keeping you in suspense, and with the added creepiness of the storyline this made the book absolutely gripping!

The location of Black Rock Falls is perfect, and I could imagine myself walking around the town decked out with its Halloween decorations! I loved the names of some of the locations – Dead End Road, Creeping Vine Trail and The Devil’s Crossroads to name but a few! It’s no wonder serial killers flock to Black Rock Falls in their droves with names like these! They all added to the spookiness of the storyline though and had me reading the book with one hand turning the pages and the other covering my eyes! Even at book #17, there is still so many places that this series could go, and whilst I certainly wouldn’t want to live in Black Rock Falls, I’m more than happy to keep on visiting Kane and Alton again and again! Would recommend!

I love returning to Black Rock Falls. This is one of my favourite series for various reasons - in this, Book 17 - how are we at book 17 already!! Jenna and Dave are on the hunt for who is killing the wives of seal team members who were lost while on active duty. Add in Halloween and you have a spooky hood read.
Thanks Netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and the author who keeps giving us awesome reads with this series.
Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Spookily , heartstoppingly thrilling! I found myself listening to every creak I my house and watching the shadows in my garden...maybe I shouldn't have read it at Halloween, when the action takes place. For the first half of the book I thought it was a ghost story before agreeing with Kane that it's the living we have to fear. Really original, absorbing and peopled with all our favourite characters. Another bestseller

Highly entertaining, fun, and spooky read! It's Halloween in Black Rock Falls and while the town goes all out getting ready, Jenna and Dave are hunting a killer. Just days apart two women are found with their husband's Purple Heart pinned to their shirt. Why is someone killing the widows of a platoon went MIA on Halloween years earlier? Can Jenna an her team find the other women before the killer?
Atmospheric and suspenseful with interesting characters made this book impossible to put down.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

I can't believe that we're at #17 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series! Now I've been reading these from the very first #Don'tTellASoul, After every new instalment of life in serial killer central Black Rock Falls, Montana I'm champing at the bit for the next one, Although I'm not sure why anyone with half a brain would actually want to live there,

Life for Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane is pretty darned good right now but it's back to business for them when a case comes in, Its Halloween in Black Rock Falls, a time for remembering the dead and you can bet your bottom dollar that death of a different kind will be paying a visit. As with all celebratory dates the townsfolk have gone all out with the requisite cobwebs, ghost, vampires and all manner of scary apparitions.

Not to give too much of the plot away there's a small circle of women being tormented by phone calls apparently from their missing husbands, The women are the widows of servicemen from the same unit, they were shot dead, supposedly shot by the enemy during a tour of duty, When the first body was discovered it was presented as a suicide but when another victim turns up the guys quickly realise that it's something far more sinister, it's murder but why wait so long?

What I love about this series is that it feels as if you're catching up with old friends, of where they are in life, seeing just how well they're doing. We have the dastardly duo Jenna and Dave alongside their regular cohorts and when they need that extra bit of backup they have Jo Wells and Ty Carter from the FBI to call upon. For the most part they seem to be in pretty decent shape, apart from Ty that is, he seems to need some downtime, to be MIA, although he picked his m

Jenna and Dave are back in this 17th installment.
It’s Halloween time in Black Rock Falls and soldiers widows are being knocked off with their husbands Purple Hearts. Seven years ago on Halloween a platoon of soldiers went MIA presumably dead. Widows Willow, Christy and Evelyn are hearing and seeing their husbands or so they think.
This was a spooky read full of creepy houses in isolated woods. I couldn’t hardly put it down. Very suspenseful. The author has many great books in this series.
Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC that will be released December 8!

Halloween and Black Rock Falls seem made for each other; the town is decorated, there are special events being held, and the wind echoing through the surrounding forests adds to the spooky atmosphere. When the body of the widow of a military veteran is found in her isolated home the celebrations are put on hold for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team as they examine the unexplained death.

Looking closer at the circumstances surrounding the death it soon seems more than coincidental that it happened just before Halloween. Ghostly sightings and contact from beyond the grave are unnerving to those connected to the victim and her late husband but when a second body is discovered, although she knows it's unlikely, Jenna has to consider every possibility.

In book 17 of this brilliant series the spooky monitor is set to high with plenty of suspects, familiar protagonists, and a location known as serial killer central, added to the Halloween holiday. This is the ideal scenario for an atmospheric murder mystery and D K Hood has the heart racing from the start.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is an excellent series and once again the standard is incredibly high. Easy to recommend.
