Amazing Read

I received an advance review copy for free from Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Actual Rating: 4.5

Thank you, Our Daily Bread for the opportunity to read your book. This was an incredible read. In this devotional, each month focused on a different attribute of God through every passage in the Bible. This devotional helps us deepen our relationship with God not just for right now, but forever. I think the lessons that we can learn from this devotional will bring more people to Christ. This book is to be read for every day of the months ahead, but I actually read through it in one sitting absorbing the wonderful Scriptures and prayers throughout. I am glad that I get to learn more about the different attributes that God possesses. However, I do wish that there was more of an explanation or commentary for the topics discussed. I think it would make a bigger impact on the Christian community. Overall, an amazing read.

Know Him is a year-long devotional that helps readers grow in their knowledge and understanding of God's character. The book focuses on 12 attributes of God, and each day features a passage from Scripture and a reflection question or prayer. The reflections and prayers are thought-provoking and can help readers apply the lessons of the book to their own lives.

Perfect for daily devotions. I’d love to use this during our family dinner devotions. I like how it’s written seasonally.

Know Him (A Year of Daily Bible Readings on the Character of God) by Our Daily Bread is exactly as it is described in the title. After a poem at the beginning of the month, each day is one of scripture that contains the attribute of the month. Attributes of God include ones such as wise, good, glorious and creative to name only a few. The scripture is followed by a comment, prayer or question. It is a book that will have you thinking on God’s Word during the day.

The setup is easy to follow, short, about a page, and gives scripture from the Old and New Testament. There is little context given on the verse, just the verse itself contain the word of the month. I would suggest if one were unsure of what was happening before or after the verse to look up the reference and read more of the chapter.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a complimentary digital copy. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

This is a fabulous devotional. The scripture is relevant to the devotional point. I love that the season's match up with aspects of who God is this really aided my appreciation of Christ. I appreciate that this really is a devotional which is relevant for both men and women. Many devotionals are geared strictly for one gender or the other. I also am enjoying the titlepage, I think it looks cool. I appreciate how the logo is not spread out all over and everywhere in this book. I also really like the layout and that it is scripture readings pertaining to the characteristic of God and than question and prompts to guide prayer and reflection, and your time spent with God. It is unique and I really appreciate this devotional. Each month also has a point such as a poem to enhance the point of the month characteristic of God. These are enriching as well and encourage worship of Christ.

I don't think it stands out amongst the crowd of devotionals, however, it's definitely not bad. The cover stands out compared to the likes of Jesus Calling and once you open it up, the devotionals match the title. I have picked up this devotional occasionally but ultimately it isn't my go to.

I like the premise of this book. It is almost exclusively Scripture. There is a comment at the end of each reading. It could be a short prayer, an expression of thanks or a reflective question.

The egalley I read had formatting problems. I could not distinguish days and would be reading along and suddenly a new month would be given. I trust the final ebook will be formatted better.

One aspect of the book that puzzled me was how often the Scriptures listed under a topic seemed to have little to do with that topic. It almost seemed like the editors needed three Scriptures on a topic and just picked some. For example, under Our Faithful, Forgiving God Prov. 19:11 is given. That's a passage about human wisdom, about a human overlooking an offense. Another example is The Holy Spirit Judges. Ps. 106:32-33; Isa. 11:3-5; Gal. 5:15-23 are given, none of which say anything about the Spirit actually judging.

I really do like the idea of have Scripture for daily reading supporting the characteristics of God. I was just puzzled by some of the Scriptures chosen for each topic.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Inspirational and a recommended devotion book on the twelve attributes of God. Several verses provided under each heading of each attribute to read.

I love that this book has so much Scripture in it! It's practical too, and has prayers in it as well. I believe I will use this regularly.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy! All opinions are entirely my own.

Back of the Book: “Wise, holy, creative, and good only begin to describe our God. Devote 365 days to discovering the character of God solely through His Word. Focus on 12 different attributes of the Creator through passages from every book of the Bible. With a leather-like cover, this is the perfect gift for new or longtime readers of Scripture who want to deepen their understanding and relationship with God.”

Impressions: I really liked the idea of this book. 12 different attributes of God from every book of the Bible. True to its description, the book is scripture organized to the attributes of God. I was disappointed however that there was not some commentary on how to study or use these verses. It was nice to have them collected together but I would have liked some more meat to create a devotional. I think that the verses would be great to pray on as well as sit down to study the attributes of God with. This opinion is purely based on what you are looking for.

I received an ARC of this book via the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here. For more book reviews go to: https://thebluestockingbooknook.wordpress.com

I really like Our Daily Bread; I can always find ways to think deeper about those ideas which I had never before. This book will bring you closer to Jesus. Not in an academic way, but by pulling scripture together. It won't take long to read, but if you do it right, it will stay with you throughout the day and longer. It is great that there isn't a lot of extraneous material. What a great way to spend Lent
