I want to express my gratitude to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of The Fall of Souls by R. A. Moreau. From the moment I started reading, I was instantly drawn to this book due to my fascination with Greek myth re-imaginings and retellings. This novel not only exceeded my already high expectations but also presented a unique and refreshing take on the genre.

The story begins with Onia, a young woman consumed by grief after the loss of her father, who had been suffering from memory loss. As Onia tries to make a living through her soul readings, she encounters strange monsters one night, only to be saved by a man named Ra, who reveals himself to be the son of Anubis. Ra informs Onia that she is the daughter of Ma'at and that she is needed to return to the Halls to fulfill her role in guiding souls. Thus, their journey together begins.

Although I was prepared for a myriad of names and designations associated with the Greek myths in this book, I found little confusion thanks to the author's adept explanations and distinct portrayal of each character. While some names were similar, any confusion was not the fault of the author.

The heart of this story lies in the soulmates romance, which initially drew me to this book. However, it offers so much more than that. From the search for Ma'at's murderer to the exploration of difficult and abusive family relationships, there is a rich tapestry of intrigue and emotion woven throughout the narrative. Despite the initially odd writing style, I eventually became fully engrossed in the story around the 10% mark.

The romance in this book develops at a slow burn pace, which I appreciated. However, I did find myself wanting more scenes between Ra and Onia, showcasing their endearing and playful dynamic. The wait was anguishing, but the eventual payoff was worth it. I was slightly disappointed by the lack of an epilogue or further exploration of their relationship at the end.

The intense, heart-breaking, sweet, and beautiful moments in The Fall of Souls captured my heart from the start. I'm an avid mythology lover, and this book skillfully brought Nubian myths to life, intertwining them with a compelling enemies-to-lovers storyline and the concept of fated soulmates. The world-building was expertly described, and the fight scenes, particularly the one between Onia and Nejeri, left an indelible impression on my mind.

The only reason I didn't give this book a full five stars was because, as the story progressed, the emotional impact and sense of adventure diminished slightly, and I was hoping for a more impactful ending. I anticipated a cliffhanger, which unfortunately didn't materialize.

Onia is a fearless and strong protagonist, and I deeply admired her determination. The author skillfully portrayed her vulnerability amidst her strength, which added depth to her character. Ra, on the other hand, left me longing for more. Although we were given glimpses into his story, I felt there could have been more exploration of his character. Nevertheless, his protective nature and the chemistry between him and Onia made their relationship truly wholesome.

In conclusion, The Fall of Souls is a book that dragged me out of a reading slump and provided a much-needed escape. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys mythology and slow burn romances.

Egyptian mythology inspired stories are so hard to find and so I am always snatching them up when I find them. This one was a good one and I really enjoyed it.

This was a nice dark fantasy romance. Enjoyed reading! The novel was paced well and I loved the way it engaged mythology without being burdened by it. I hope there is a continuation of stories in this universe.

The Fall of Souls is an Egyptian mythology romance novel, probably drawing in ( now adult ) fans of Rick Riordan’s the Kane Chronicles. Yes, I know, that’s me too.

This book drew me in with the summary, creating high expectations for this book that I was absolutely sure was going to be a new favorite, but I found myself growing bored while reading as the pacing of the novel was so fast that I couldn’t really get into it.

The relationship between the lead characters doesn’t really seem believable to me, just because it mostly seems like they just want to get with each other, not really fall in love with each other. Maybe I’ve just been spoiled with fated mates tropes, but I really wish that the connection between them had been drawn out a bit more and maybe had a bit more of a slow burn.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, finishing it in just under two days. I would likely continue to read this as part of a series, because now I’m attached to the characters and would like to know more!

Thank you so much for the opportunity!

The book was nice to read and I liked the story and the characters, but unfortunately there were things missing that kept me reading this fast, so unfortunately it took me a while.

I always love mythology retellings (who doesn’t?) and if the details are rich enough, they can reach beyond the original story. This is one of them. Loved Onia, how sweet and strong she is. And Ra? I was not expecting that this God could turn into a desirable, passionate character?
Loved it and hope this turns into series

I ended up not finishing this book. It didn't pull me in the way I hoped, it wasn't bad just wasn't for me! Thank you for the opportunity

I'm obsessed with Egyptian mythology since I was a child so I desperately wanted to read this book.

I loved the prompt. A don't like the instalove trop but having in mind it's a soulmates scenario I forced myself to accept it 😅 and it was worth it. This one really surprised me

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. While the premise was interesting I didn’t connect with the characters or the story in a meaningful manner. Some books just aren’t for us, and that’s alright.

I’m a huge fan of Egyptian mythology, and loved the premise of it being employed in a fantasy adventure story.

However, I think more detail to the world and characters would’ve improved the reading experience.

The romance aspect was meh, and I wasn’t particularly endeared towards Onia.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Pleasure & Power Publishing for a copy!

I was excited to read this book all god and goddess history intrigues me. Reimagining them was done well here but was lacking somethings for my taste.

Not what I was expecting when I got the arc. Loved the writing style though and it was overall a good book for a debut author, I hope to see more from her.

I don’t feel comfortable giving this book a star rating because I feel that I was the intended audience. I had a really hard time keeping track of the characters, as far as their connection to Egyptian Gods. The author wrote this story as if readers had a basic understanding or background of Egyptian gods and I felt like that information was important to grasp the nuances of the characters behaviors, thoughts, and decisions.

3/5 stars, I really loved reading about Egyptian gods

Thank you to Pleasure & Power Publishing for the arc in exchange for an honest review!

Reading about the mythology of other cultures has always been one of my favorite parts of reading, especially when it's similar to Greek/Roman mythology. There is a severe lack of Egyptian mythology in my opinion in the literary world, so I always get excited when I see a book written around this mythology. While seeing so many names and characters from this mythology was lots of fun, it was hard at times to remember. There was context given sometimes but also I feel like not enough time to really absorb all the characters.

The plot in general of this book was largely centered around the romance between Onia and Ra, which I knew going into this story. It was pretty fast-moving after the 50% mark, but before that, all that really occurred was them making their way through the desert. Which was fine, but there was a such fast attraction between them it was a little unbelievable. Their romance was overall enjoyable because I found myself really enjoying Ra and Onia wasn't a bad character either. The biggest complaint I have is just it didn't truly feel like they were in love, just lots of attraction.

I hoped that the writing style would bring about a more dramatic feeling as the story was supposed to be very intense, but it didn't really feel that way. The writing style was just a little flat for me in terms of how it built up the excitement, but that also could have been because everything felt pretty fast too and there wasn't really time for me to adjust to things as they were happening. This is mostly a personal preference though, and I didn't hate the style of writing overall, it just felt a bit like a debut novel in that sense.

Overall, while there were things that needed improvement in my opinion it was a debut novel that makes me want to keep an eye on what else this author will be releasing. My favorite part of reading this was definitely the Egyptian mythology, and how many gods/goddesses were actually present in this book. Some of the romance, worldbuilding, and other things could have been improved on but this wasn't a bad book really and I still did enjoy some aspects of reading it. I recommend checking it out if you enjoy Egyptian mythology or want to read more books about it.

I was intrigued by the blurb for this book and the beautiful cover.

Onia is a young woman who has no idea of who she really is she also has a the gift of reading souls. So when they die and come to the Halls to be judged and stand by the scales they will know their fate. A guardian Ra has been sent from the Halls to protect her and bring her home. This is their story, a steamy romance with plenty of magic and horror all set in Egyptian mythology. An entertaining read that took my breath away. I could not stop reading. I want more I need more.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This book drew me in from the blurb as soon as I read it. This book is the authors take on Egyptian Mythology featuring Gods and Goddesses.
The world building was fantastic from start to finish in this book.I love when authors explain in detail so you’re not left wondering or not fully understanding. I enjoyed the intricate magic system in the book.
I felt the two main characters Ra and Onia were well developed and their slow burn romance was perfect. I enjoyed how their romance was not the main part of the slow but second to the plot.
I did feel that the other characters weren’t as well developed as the main and could do with a bit more depth to them.
If you love a slow burn romantic fantasy with magic, Gods & Goddess and Fated Mates then this book is definitely for you.

I do look forward to reading more from this author.

The Fall of Souls by R.A. Moreau is a beautifully crafted adult fantasy romance that is both passionate and intriguing. Set in a world of Nubian gods and goddesses, the story is filled with secrets, betrayal, and intricate politics that keep the reader engaged from start to finish.

The world building in this book is exceptional. Moreau has created a world that is richly detailed and immersive, with every setting being explained in vivid detail. The author’s use of Egyptian mythology adds a unique flavor to the story, and the magic system based on Kan is fascinating and well-explained.

The two main characters, Ra and Onia, are both flawed but lovable beings that are relatable and engaging. The dual narrative and enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope work incredibly well, with the transition being beautifully done. Ra is a tortured hero that is brooding and fiercely protective of Onia, while Onia is a strong and independent heroine that holds her own in many situations.

The romance between Ra and Onia is slow-burning and satisfying, with plenty of steamy moments to satisfy those who enjoy them. However, the book is not solely focused on the romance, and the plot is well-crafted with a number of twists and turns that keep the reader engaged throughout.

While there are a few minor issues, such as some repeated words and certain secondary characters that could have been developed more, the overall story is strong and complete, with a satisfying conclusion that could easily serve as a standalone book.

Overall, The Fall of Souls is an exceptional adult fantasy romance that is both passionate and intriguing, with beautiful world building and engaging characters that keep the reader invested in the story from start to finish. Highly recommended for fans of the genre, and those looking for a unique and captivating read.
