I will always appreciate Kiersten Modglin's approach to a thriller. Quick to the point with a lot of unexpected twists. For this particular ending twist, I was a bit underwhelmed, but I have loved some of her other books.

🥳 Happy Pub Day @kierstenmodglinauthor 🎉 Her latest novel is another fantastic psychological thriller! There is a reason why there is the hashtag: #kmoddoesitagain on Bookstagram when referring to her putting out another novel! If You’re Reading This is the story of Colbie a year after the love of her life tragically dies. The twists and turns are shocking and surprising. This audiobook was well narrated and I just wanted to keep listening to find out what happens next!

Thank you @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for allowing me to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Colbie, accompanied by her three best friends, go on a weekend getaway for what was supposed to be her and her love's one year wedding anniversary. Instead, it marks one year since his death. During the trip, Colbie reads letters that her and her husband were supposed to read a year after their marriage. At the bottom of the box the letters were kept, she found a letter from her would-be husband, which made it seem like he could have been in trouble. His death was written off as a heart attack, but what if it wasn't? The more Colbie digs into it, the more she realizes that she didn't know her betrothed as well as she thought she did.

Kiersten Modglin's newest book is definitely worth the read. At some point, I was suspecting everyone and everything, but the ending still ended up surprising me. I wish that there was a little more detail about the events leading up to Phil's death, before the wedding day, than was presented. Overall, if you love these types of books it's worth taking the time to read

If You Are Reading This
Kiersten Modglin

What a great premise. Your husband dies on your wedding day and on what would have been your one year anniversary, you read the letters the guests left you (thinking it would be your anniversary). You find there is one from your husband telling you if you are reading this he is gone. So you know he must have thought something was up.

This is more of a slow burn mystery than Kiersten’s trademark thriller. It does still fall into the popcorn/entertainment genre she is known for. Suspend a little belief and go along for the entertaining ride. I was a little unsure how the bride becomes friends with a wedding worker she didn’t know before, but other than that I was up for the ride.

Subhadra Newton is a great narrator and kept me listening.

While this is not my favorite of hers, I did enjoy it. I always love that she does short and entertaining so well.

Let me start by saying I am sure there is so much blood, sweat and tears that goes into writing a book and I certainly appreciate that. But I just did not care for this K-Mod.

The beginning started okay but as others have mentioned, the weird B&B setup, the strange makeup of the friend group and most importantly the ending, were just unbelievable. I found myself wanting to finish and then when I did, I was shaking my head at the ending. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was good. Colbie as a character is grating and when she was called "Blondie" a bunch of times it was grating. The three men just seem way to invested in her. I would definitely recommend trying K-Mod's books, but I would skip this one.

This book had a very interesting concept and I liked the idea of it. It was gripping and a quick read, but I do wish there would have been a little more suspense and build up to the big reveal at the end. Overall it was a fun read though.

✰✰✰.5
This domestic suspense has the same incredible twists #KMod is well known for but the premise is a little unique. Unlike the other books I’ve read, anyway. More romance.

It’s her wedding day and Colbie is getting ready for the best day of her life. Preparing to walk down the aisle with the love of her life—Phil. Just moments before that happens, Phil is dead.

One year later, the day that should be her anniversary, she is with her three best friends—Miles, James, and Eric—and the box of letters meant to be opened by her and Phil on that special day. After reading one letter that contains surprising information suggesting Phil wasn’t the person she thought he was. Making it necessary for her to examine her relationship and the people around her.

This was a quick read, with interesting twists, but the ending wasn’t as surprising as I anticipated.

Sincere thanks to NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Audiobook is impossible to listen to at higher speeds and I cannot focus at lower speeds. I will listen/read this once it is released. Thank you for approving me.

I have read several of this authors works. This book did not disappoint. I thought it was done really well and I needed to know what was going to happen. I loved the flash backs as well.

I kept waiting for something big to happen in this one, like so many other KM books, and once it did, it fell flat for me. I always appreciate how KM’s books are quick audiobooks that suck you in right from the beginning. They always make me want to continue to find chores to do so I can keep listening while being productive.

This is a new author for me and I've read many good reviews for her books. This one, however, didn't work for me. I didn't find the main character likable and the twist was a bit far fetched for me. I did finish it because I wanted to know what would happen so it was a good listen. Just not a great thriller for me.

I enjoyed this book. I love it when I read a book with a creative premise. A widow goes away on what should have been her first wedding anniversary. Three of the dead husband's friends accompany her. On her wedding day, all attendees were instructed to write a letter to the presumably happy couple. Through the pages, the reader gains clues as to what really happened to the husband. I enjoyed this novel and a thumbs-up on the narration.

Colbie lost her husband Phil on their wedding day. A year later she goes on a weekend getaway on what would be her anniversary. She goes with three of her friends to help keep her mind off of Phil and continue the healing process.

The group of friends Colbie is away with I found a little strange. Most normal is her best friend and her “Man of Honor” James. Then we start to get a little weirder. Eric, Phil’s best friend, who has becomes almost like Colbie's best friend now. Then the weirdest one, Miles, who was the wedding singer. She did not know Miles before the wedding but grew close with him over the last year.

On their wedding day they had people write letters for them to open on their one-year anniversary. Colbie and the three guys do this and the last letter they open is from Phil. It seemed Phil knew he was in trouble and now his death which was originally ruled accidental suddenly feels suspicious.

The book goes back and forth between the current time and a year prior for the wedding. When going back and forth you realize that all three men seem suspicious on the wedding day.

As Colbie digs deeper I really enjoyed how things were playing out.

At first, I really liked the end but that quickly faded away. I like what Modglin went for I just wish it went all the way. I do not like where Colbie is when the story ends.

Even though in my opinion this missed the ending it was still a fun read and I highly recommend it.

Kiersten Modglin is the queen of popcorn thrillers! 🍿 One year after the death of her fiancé on their wedding day, Colbie and her three male best friends (yes, you read that right) go on a weekend retreat together. While there, she starts to discover information and connections about what happened that day. One thing is for sure- just when you think you know what happened, think again!! 😱
*Thanks to Bookoutre and NetGalley for the advance listener’s copy for review!

I love Kiersten Modglin's writing style and I know every time I pick one of her books up, no matter how hard I try to figure out the twist, I will not get it because my imagination is nowhere near as good as hers. This story drew me in just like the others but I found the main character a little self-absorbed so I didn't warm to her as much as I did her other characters. The twist was still fantastic, although I did figure out part of it, but Colbie (and her sister) made this one just a little less fantastic as the others.

Narration was well done, although when there is dialogue between several characters, the different voices tend to sound the same in places.

This was a good listen, but in many ways felt very anticlimactic for me. While there was the usual plot twist, it left many questions unanswered. The characters were likable and the narration was good.

I love this author and was excited to get an advance listening copy of this one.

Colbie was set to marry the man of her dreams, but before the I Dos he passed away on their wedding day. It's now what would be their first anniversary and she is going to open a box of letters that were written to them as a couple for their wedding. Her three best friends (all men), Eric, James and Miles, go with her on a weekend getaway.

On the getaway, she reads a letter written to her by her husband to be, and it sends her world spinning.

While I enjoyed this one fine, it lacked the twists and suspenseful moments other KM books have doled out. Also their seemed to be more far fetched things that were hard to overlook.

Still a good read, but won't go down as my favorite KM book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Just from the title, I had a feeling this was going to be one of those “if you’re reading this, I’m already dead” type stories. I was not wrong.

I enjoyed most of this story. It was a slow unraveling of some drama, but it didn’t feel slow at the time. As I was thinking back to write this review, I realized that everything was spaced out pretty well to make a well-rounded suspense novel.

But then it just…ended. The ending came on so fast and wrapped it up in a way that just didn’t seem to match the rest of the story. It felt rushed.

Thanks to NetGalley for the Audio copy!

“On the one-year anniversary of her wedding, Colbie Moore’s life looks nothing like it should. Still grieving the loss of the man she meant to spend her life with, Colbie prepares for a weekend away to take her mind off her heartache, but the simple plan results in much more than she bargained for.”

Full disclosure, this is the third in a series of less-than-satisfactory books, AND all my Hallowe’en chocolate is gone, so I’m probably a little more grumpy about it, than normal.

Having said that, I did not enjoy this book at all.

I didn’t like any of the characters. Not the main, who were flat and juvenile and shifty. Not the secondary who were flat and juvenile and existed only to give us characters to despise.

I didn’t like the storyline, nor the gaping plot holes.

I certainly didn’t like the conclusion, or the tacked-on, last-page romance.

I did not like it here or there. I did not like it anywhere.

Now, the author has a pretty high audience score on Good Reads, so by all means, consider this opinion an aberration, but I’m, honestly, annoyed at myself for finishing this book.

2.5/10

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ARC. I promise I’ll like the next one more.

We jump right into Colbie's pain as we learn her husband died of a heart attack on their wedding day, just minutes before they were due to walk down the aisle. Now, a year later, Colbie is "celebrating" her 1 year wedding by going on a little vacation with her three best friends and opening her wedding cards meant for the anniversary. Once the wedding cards are open, things take a turn...at the bottom of the pile is a letter from Colbie's dead fiance and she is left with so many questions.

Not my favorite of Modglin but it keeps my attention. I was dying to know why Phil, Colbie's fiance, would leave her this letter. Was he in danger? Was he dying? Was he planning to leave her?

This book is short so we find out quickly who and what is behind this mysterious note. For me, there was a lot that was just too unbelievable. To begin with, I thought it was strange that Colbie had created these strong bonds with these men, especially the wedding singer, that she met on the day of the wedding. There was a lot that just didn't add up.

As far as the audiobook and narrator, it was well executed.

Will I keep reading Modglin? Of course...I love her messy stories, they are always binge able.
