4.25 I really love this cozy witchy romance story I cannot get enough of these. In this book we follow Leanne who hates working for her chauvinistic boss and has dreams of becoming a local politician herself. We also follow Trevor a laid back nerd who is not the most ambitious person around . When Leanne realizes she was going to struggle to win a campaign as a single woman she decides to talk Trevor into a fake marriage to benefit themselves. Trevor who is living in his parents basement is desperate for an escape and Leanne’s marriage proposal seems like the perfect opportunity, until feelings start to develop. I really love this series the writing is fun and keeps me engaged. I am truly a sucker for the marriage of convenience trope in romance and this book handled it perfectly. I loved following the characters as their friendship grew into more. I did listen to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator as well. I would like to thank the publishers and Net galley for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

I did not read the first two books in the series. I read this as a standalone so I was not familiar with the world or the characters beforehand.

Personally, I was not a big fan of the main two in the beginning. I am fine with a woman having ambition and the man being a stay at home homemaker. However, it seemed like Trevor did not know what he wanted with his life or have any passion. Leanne was a little pushy but she did know what she wanted. I understand this might say something about me but I am really really glad a story like this exists. Although I was not a huge fan, other might see themselves in and relate to Trevor and Leanne.

As the story progressed, Trevor became less depressed and found his passion. Leanne felt supported and was going after her goals. The “book club” ladies were funny and made Leanne more relatable.

It was not my favorite book but elements were enjoyable and it was unique.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My last book of 2022!! I can’t believe I got one more in. Extra Witchy is the third in the series and another amazing story. The marriage of convenience was done so well! I adored their chemistry. Not only that, I enjoyed seeing the relationships between friends also build. It made the characters more real.

Extra Witchy is the third book in the Fix-It Witches series and can be read as a stand alone. It has one of my favorite troupes of strangers marrying or marriage of convenience. She was just looking to take the edge off one night and he is in a rut he just can't seem to get out of. It is Trevor's lucky day when the beautiful Leanne asks him to sneak away to have sex in the bathroom. It was supposed to be just once; it was supposed to end that night but it became the start of something more.

Leanne didn't really want another person in her life. It was perfectly full enough with her job and coven, but if she really wants to run in a political race she is going to need a husband. Trevor never recovered when his girlfriend left him years ago and he has let the negative self talk in his head drag him down for years. It seems too good to be true when the beautiful Leanne pitches the idea of getting married. She'll be the bread winner and he can help her out with keeping the house clean, cooking meals and assisting her campaign. It will at least get him out of his parent's house and give him some time and space to figure out what he wants to do.

I really like Leanne. She is a get to the point girl and don't sugar coat it for me. Trev is such a nice guy but no one really knows him well besides his only friend, Titus. He has spent the last few years baked and in a state of depression without direction in his life. On paper, he and Leanne don't seem like they would make sense. But in actuality they have a lot to offer each other and because of their unique arrangement, they also have the space in their fake marriage to be the best versions of themselves. Now if only Leanne wasn't keeping so many secrets about being a witch.

There were a lot of things I really liked in this romance. The characters were interesting and likable people, their families gave them some issues to work through to be a stronger couple and the witchcraft while present seemed natural and low key. This was a great feel good kind of book with just enough drama to keep the tension in it without going overboard. My favorite thing though is how Trevor dealt with his own mental health issues and learned that how he saw himself really colored how he thought everyone else saw him too. Actually having someone else believe in him didn't fix him but gave him the belief he could fix himself.

If you are looking for a book heavy on witchcraft and spells, you are not going to find that here. Leanne may be a witch but the spellwork in this is pretty minimal and the coven of witches she calls friends is more of a girl group. I was in it for the trope and stayed for the characters and the girl power.

Narration:

Ava Lucas is a solid narrator. I enjoyed her voice for Leanne which was pretty perfect, for Trevor she was still good but for romances I really prefer dual narrators for the 2 different PoVs. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

I definitely liked this one more than the first two books, but that doesn’t mean i liked this one (if that makes sense, lol). This one had decent parts that I didn’t hate, though.

I actually really liked the characters in this one. Leanne was sassy woman who was intent on smashing the patriarchy. How can I, a devout feminist, hate that? Trev was such a sweetheart of a man, truly loving Leanne for who she was.

I also liked the fake dating trope. The other ones were “instalove” vibes (I mean this one was a little too) but this one included fake dating, which is a trope that I can get down with.

However, this one was still bland. Nothing really drew me in with their relationship until the end of the book. If Aguirre writes another one in this series, I definitely won’t read it. I feel like I gave the series a fair shot and it disappointed me.

This 3rd in series book is cute, fun, and a good rom-com. I loved Trev and Leanne are cute and funny main characters . I look forward to reading more books in the series.

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this audio ARC.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this but all of the components were there to make it entertaining! I think they kind of missed an opportunity by not releasing it in fall when everyone is looking for cozy reads

Extra Witchy
by Ann Aguirre
Narrated by Ava Lucas

Pub Date 10 Nov 2022

I received a digital copy of this audiobook from NetGalley and Dreamscape media in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in the series and I do recommend reading them in order. The story lines are somewhat overlapping so I would even read them back to back. It had been a while since I’d read the previous book so there were a few moments that would have hit differently had the previous stories been fresh in my mind.

I was very excited to get the real scoop on this books male lead because we saw him frequently in the first book as that male leads bff/side kick. He had previously seemed like someone who didn’t appear to have much going on but who was likely putting up a facade to hide hidden depths and probably some kind of emotional trauma. Our author did not disappoint, it was fascinating to see the inner workings of his mind after previously being so superficially familiar with the character.
Now our heroine was not as anticipated for me personally because she featured on a similar level as a number of coven sisters in the previous books. However it was great getting to know her and a different view as the last two books featured cousins and room mates.

As always I found Ann Aguirres book to be fun, heartwarming, spicy, fantastical, engrossing, humorous and thought provoking. Additionally the narration from Ava Lucas was a high quality performance.

LeAnn is a witch who has a successful career working for the mayor. Trevor's depression has caused him to stagnate after college and a bad breakup and he is living in his parents' basement. When LeAnn decides to run for a position on the city council she decides she needs a husband and Trevor is a perfect candidate. So off the Vegas they go.

The book is funny, but a little sad when Trevor "talks" about his depression and also his relationship with his brother and parents. LeAnn's mother has never grown up and has never revealed to LeAnn who her father is. The author has dealt with these subjects with humor.

Very good book and the narrator is great.

(4.5 rounded down to a 4)

Extra Witchy by Ann Aguirre is a paranormal romance and the third book in the Fix-It Witches series. I listened to the audiobook, which clocks in at ten hours and is narrated by Ava Lucas.

Leanne has been married and divorced twice, happy to focus on her career at this point in her life. She is the head of PR for the mayor's office, but dreams of someday running for city council. But before she can run for office, she might need a husband to polish up her image. Trevor is severely depressed and lives in his toxic parents' basement, but he could be a great house husband while supporting her career asperations.

I have read the first two books in this series, and while I appreciated the nods to them in this installment, this book could probably be read as a standalone. That being said, timeline-wise, all the books overlap a bit, so I'd recommend actually reading them in order. So far this one is my favorite in the series.

I really identified with Trevor on several levels. I was very glad to see his growth throughout the book. Since the series is literally called the "Fix-It Witches," you might expect Leanne to see Trevor as a "fixer upper." However, this is not the case and she completely accepts him for who he is. This was really great to see. Another thing I love to see are couples with open communication.

I could definitely see fans of Erin Sterling's The Ex Hex series or Lana Harper's The Witches of Thistle Grove series enjoying this series as well.

Tropes in this book include: sex-positive FMC, career-driven FMC, pansexual MMC, fake dating, marriage of convenience, small town

CW: gaslighting, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, toxic family members, toxic masculinity, misogyny, past child neglect, abortion (discussed), brief mention of hunting and death of animal

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook version of this book. Everything I write is of my own thoughts feelings and opinions. I am in no way affiliated with or compensated for my review.
This book is part of a series but you can read as a stand-alone as I did and It was perfectly fine. This was a fun romance book of essentially two worlds coming together and finding love while bridging both worlds into one. Leanne is a modern day witch who has two failed marriages under her belt already. She is not looking for love when she has to have a fake marriage to help in her political career. She finds the perfect man willing to go along with it as he still is grieving the loss of his first love and he is now living in his parents basement.
As in all love/romance novels they really do find love and it is not with the help of spells and magic it is real true love. Leanne has some blunders along the way as she is called upon to be the head council woman for the witches coven. She uses this to her advantage to bridge the gap between the two worlds and she does it without magic- it just naturally happens as the times have changed with the internet and the way people think.

Full disclosure: I have not read the preceding installments in the ‘Fix-It Witch’ series.

‘Extra Witchy’ is such a cute paranormal romance! If you liked the season of ‘Parks and Rec’ where Leslie runs for city council, but you also love a good femme fatale and can’t resist a mmc who gives Chandler Bung rediscovering his career passion vibes, this is the perfect read for you. Leanne is capable and confident, with an idealistic streak uncommon of femme fatale types, and Trevor is loveable and devoted with an endearing dose of self-deprecation. Their failed one night stand / marriage of convenience romance is spicy from the start and comes into such a sweet finish you’ll get a toothache.

What truly set ‘Extra Witchy’ apart for me in what is quickly becoming an over saturated trend of witchy romances was the character development and emotional support between characters. Leanne takes time to let her walls down, and does so well
within her established family personality through unshakable loyalty from Trevor.
Trevor, in turn, gains much deserved self confidence with the help of therapy and Leanne’s unwavering support.

If the entire series is this good, I’ll regret waiting so long to get to it.

The Story:

This has been my favorite of the series. I love how Leanne wanted to change things in the magical and non-magical worlds. The main characters had so much chemistry and it was good to see a male character who wasn’t so cocky (not that there's anything wrong with that) it was just a nice change of pace.

Writing: So good. I haven’t read a lot from this author, but I’ve loved the books I have read, and I look forward to exploring more of them. I hope there are more in this series in particular.
Forward Motion: Very good. This story flowed so well.
Overall Interest: Kept my attention the whole time
Length of Reading Time: Great. In fact, it went by too fast because I didn’t want it to end.
Re-read-ability: Yes, I would visit this world again.

The Random Thoughts:

This is a cute little paranormal romance about an ambitious witch who finds companionship with a less motivated man who has mental health issues. I loved the non-traditional role modeling here and the acceptance Leanne and Trevor have for the strengths and weaknesses of one another. It did feel like the witchy/paranormal elements were a bit of an afterthought, so really this is more of just a straight-up romance. This is the second title in this series I've read, and I have found both to be very cute.

This was good, I don’t think it clears the pack of similar options, but it was relatable, heartfelt, and interesting all the same. 100% worth the effort if you’re into witchy rom-coms, subverting gender roles (!!), golden retriever MMCs, and STRONG WOMEN. Amen.

Thank you NetGalley for the audiobook access.

Leann and Trevor are a delightful pair who suffer from the lack of communication many real life couples do. So much of their internal angst could be cleared up with some conversations about their past traumas and mental state, but they tend to skirt around those issues. That aside, this book is a treat. Fake Marriage doesn't happen so often anymore (engagements yes, but not actual marriage) and this was a fun take on it. The spice in this book is super steamy and I appreciate that! It's been a while since I read the other two books of this series, but they weren't necessary to appreciate and enjoy this book.

I listened to this book as an audio book through Netgalley, thank you Netgalley and Ann Aguirre for a copy of your book in turn for an honest review. I listened to this book at 1.75% which is what I usually listen to audio books on. Narrated by Ava Lucas. This is a dual perspective book told between two characters Leanne and Trevor. I enjoyed that their was a magical aspect of this book but it didn't take over it instead seemed to add a little something different to the other fake marriage books I have read recently.

I would like to say, my opinion, is that I wouldn't have liked this book as much if I read it myself. The narrator was spot on I loved her pacing and inflection that she used. While not necessary I do enjoy when the narrator uses different voices for the characters and Ava did not disappoint here. I enjoyed listening to Trevors worries which I felt like stood out for me. Leanne at points was standoffish for me but they are in a marriage of convenience. I really enjoyed listening as their relationship grew and how each of them were able to be themselves. One of my favorite aspects of this book is that in most books you might read Trevor would be seen as a fix-or-upper type guy and leanne would give up her life to try and help him but that didn't happen which was a welcomed change!

All in all this was a very fun and light hearted listen. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys the fake marriage troupe along with a magical twist!

This is the third book in the Fix-It Witches series. Between the three I really liked this story line best. It had the most unique story and series of events compared to the first two - which seem quite typical rom-com story lines with a bit of paranormal. I really hope this series continues!

Thanks to NetGalley & Dreamscape for a ARC copy of this audiobook!

Colour me excited to find out it can be read as a stand alone *whew*.
Unexpectedly spicy for such a cutesy cartoon cover.

Fake dating, witchcraft and a lot of humour.
This had everything I could hope for, I especially enjoyed the open communication between MC's.
Very refreshing.
