This is a great book for anyone who wants to boost their creative output. Taylor shares her own experiences and insights on creativity, as well as advice from other creatives. The book is full of practical advice and exercises that can help you apply the concepts to your own life.

I really enjoyed this book. It introduced me to the idea of a vision board for achieving your goals. Step by step instructions. It really works! Power Up is a must read for all those trying to channel ideas into real life manifestations.

I have done several online courses with Rachael Taylor so was very excited to receive an advance review copy of her new book.

As expected, the book was full of bright colours and bold, funky patterns in Rachael’s trademark style. The book was written well but, perhaps because I’ve done so many of Rachael’s courses, there was nothing new here for me with regards to creativity. However, that is my personal opinion and, despite that, I would definitely say this book is worth reading if you want a boost to your creativity.

Although I enjoyed the book, there was one thing about it that I didn’t enjoy, and I suspect it is the fault of the publishers rather than Rachael herself. Rachael is English, a ‘proud Liverpudlian’, yet the text was written in US English, with references to power outlets, freshly baked cookies and words like ‘color’ and ‘favorite’. These ‘Americanisms’ are glaringly out of place in a book written by an Englishwoman and I found them irritating and off-putting to my reading experience.

Perhaps the ARC that I received was an American edition, but if that is the case, it implies that Americans cannot read British English, which is absurd. I’m sure British editions of American books are not updated to reflect our language. I know they’re not.

So I dropped a star from my rating because Americanising an English writer’s words is completely unacceptable.

If you can overlook this, I found the book to be open, authentic and vulnerable and certainly worth a read.

With thanks to Netgalley and Quarry Books for an advance review copy. All opinions in this review are my own.

A beautifully put together, useful book for creatives. Even if you’re new to creating (whatever form that comes in), you can take inspiration from this book and use it to improve your creative process and increase your motivation. It was uplifting, honest, and useful. I’d recommend this to anyone who has found themselves stalled in their creativity, or even if you just want to increase your productivity levels.

This book really helps us get back to the creator that we are inside. It helps you remember what you love about creating and why you wanted to create in the first place.
Even the layout of the book is creative. The pages scream creativity. As does the message. It's like a B12 shot that every creator needs.

Even if you didn’t read a single passage in this book, it will help your creativity. The pictures are so bright and give such great ideas. Now go back and read all the passages because this author has great ideas to get the creative juices flowing.

Power Up Your Creativity: Ignite Your Creative Spark, Develop a Productive Practice, Set Goals and Achieve Your Dreams
By Rachael Taylor

Do you remember the joy of play? The type of play children take part in? The carefree, spontaneous outgassing of imagination. That’s what this book did for me. Rachael Taylor, who by the way has written several books on the subject helps you tap into your inner child to express your creativity. She writes in a way that. Excites you and offers exercises to help build creative muscle.

If you’re in a rut or blocked or just long to express yourself in a new way get this book and follow Taylor’s advice and remember how fun you are.

I’m not sure why this book fell so flat for me. My life is all about creativity— I am an author and a poet and our family runs a free community arts center. We are musicians, artists, actors and songwriters. Creativity and the arts are huge for our family. I’m always looking for more ways to stretch my creative muscles in fun ways. This just seemed kind of wordy and boring to me. I couldn’t really get into it and didn’t enjoy it. Perhaps it would be a better fit for someone who doesn’t feel at all creative?

A really lovely, honest and uplifting book on creativity. First of all, I adore the photography and the bright, punchy colours throughout the book. I also really admire the author’s honesty about her own mental health issues. The most useful parts of the book for me personally are motivation and managing isolation when working for yourself/freelance, I loved the idea of creating a ‘magic box’ and drafting a list of your strengths to keep you feeling positive and motivated. Overall it’s a lovely book to relax and enjoy with a cup of tea, with some helpful tips to stay motivated and reach your goals.

A help to improve your creativity
Art Director, creative mentor and designer Rachael Taylor presents her book "Power Up Your Creativity. Ignite Your Creative Spark - Develop a Productive Practice - Set Goals and Achieve Your Dreams" published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster. After the introduction the book is divided into ten chapters: 1) Begin - How do I identify where to begin?, 2) Inspiration - How do I become and stay inspired?, 3) Courage - What do I need to be creatively courageous?, 4) Clarity - How do I clarify my vision?, 5) Evolve - Do I need to evolve?, 6) Motivation - How do I stay motivated?, 7) Create - How do I create with intention?, 8) Longevity - How can I achieve creative longevity?, 9) Destination - I’ve reached my destination. What now?, and 10) Power - How do I know—and own—my power? The chapters always begin with "Thoughts to Ponder". The book also includes "Shared Experience" which is input from Taylor's clients, mentees, or other artists throughout the book. The creative exercises challenge readers to put into practice what they have read. An extensive list of resources as well as an index complete the book.
I really appreciate the book. It is not a "how-to" book, but a guide that will help readers - no matter if there are beginning or advanced artists - to find a sense of clarity on their artistic journey and to improve or extend their creativity. As such I recommend it for them.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
