I am blown away by how amazing this title was.

From the very first paragraph I knew I would enjoy this, simply off of the voice alone, but it just kept on getting better. Chukwu masterfully plays with the form, all while telling a story about suicide and maintaining humour.

I cannot wait to see what other amazing stories Chukwu surprises us with.

I wanted to like this book as I usually enjoy books about Nigerians and their culture and Nigerians living in the US. The first 3 chapters are mainly Sarah's backstory, her family, her previous year in college, and her alcoholism. She seems so miserable and lost and it's just uncomfortably sad for me. I appreciate the access to ARCs, but I just can finish the book. I'm sure that my library will purchase the books, so maybe I'll try again after it's been published.

This book ended up as my first "did not finish" of 2023. I gave it a real shot - but the stream of conciousnessesque writing and slow developing plot were not what I was expecting from the blurbs. After getting through 1/3 of the novel, I realize I was clearly not the designated reader and my level annoyance was high, so I'm not passing judgement, but acknowledging the problem here might have started with the reader, not the book.
