The Block Party kept me guessing from the first page until the last. I FLEW through this one and literally could not put it down. Jamie Day is one of my favorite authors and this might be my new favorite book!

Thank you to net galley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a nice surprise! I had requested to read it because it sounded interesting as a light, thriller read. And, it was! The story is a bit convoluted with a lot of different things happening, but it was quick and entertaining. I would definitely recommend it!

A Block party turns violent. So many different possibly suspects and what leads up to the fateful day. 10/10. This book has you trying to figure out what is going on. With so many families on the block, each with their own secrets, you can’t quite figure it out. The end was a surprise all in itself. Definitely a great read.

This book was amazing! I could not put it down. It reminded me of watching an episode of Desperate Housewives but with an extreme twist. This would definitely be a book I would recommend and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

GAH! I love a neighborhood mystery book and The Block Party did not disappoint! Told from the point of views of Alex (mom, divorce mediator and struggles with her increased drinking) and Lettie (daughter, high school senior and activist) we get to see into a neighborhood where everyone has secrets. There are family issues, high school bullying and revenge plots, a new neighbor, a widower, a family that is on the brink of a divorce and a pushy door to door salesman that won't leave. Set on an affluent street there are also excerpts from the town Facebook page which gives a unique insight into how others in the town view this neighborhood. The story starts at the annual Memorial Day block party where something happens and the police are called.. lots of speculation on the town Facebook page.... then the story moves to the prior year's party and takes through the past year that lead up to this year's party....

I could not put it down!

This book had me hooked from the first chapter and I sped through it in one day. Although I found some outcomes predictable I had no idea of the full picture. Highly recommend

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me access to an ARC.

This book was a bit long but the read was quick. I found most of the characters unlikeable but I really did enjoy the story and the ride. There was a LOT going on across multiple families and storylines but they all converged at the end in an interesting, albeit implausible, way. I did like the movement of time from the present to the past. It helped tie things up nicely. I also liked the convergence of the neighborhood blog post which kept the tension going by trying to figure out what was going on. The blog was annoying and hateful, just like most real life neighborhood boards, and made me giggle at the accuracy. This book was a great little escape and very few people will be disappointed. Definitely a good beach read. 3 1/2 stars.

I received a free copy from NetGalley. I really wanted to like this one more than I did. It had a lot of elements in it that I usually like. But I struggled to like the narrators and to trust their tales so I just keep putting it down.

Date made up. I feel behind on reviews.

So many secrets! Alton Road has a block party every Memorial Day. Little does anyone know all the secrets the residents are hiding. From the adults to the teenagers, the block is full of secrets that explode at the Block Party. This is an excellent summer read. As you turn the pages you will find out more and more secrets. What will finally cause the explosion one summer? I would highly recommend reading this book. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Thank you to #netgalley, #JamieDay, and #StMartinsPress for a copy of this book.

So the beginning of this book to me was a slow and steady trickle of information. Puzzle pieces given at the right time to get you mind turning. Keeping you engaged until the ending slams into you!
You never see the end coming and it’s more than you could guess! This book keeps you on your toes and gets your mind spinning!
I give this one a 3/5 because the beginning was tough to get through. The last quarter of the book is non stop action and keeps you wanting to turn the page!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an ARC of The Block Party.

There are several characters in this book, but they are not to hard to follow. The story line kept me guessing until the end to see how they were all going to be tied together.

This was my first read of the year and it was a great way to start off the year. The story line kept a great tempo with interesting connections of characters. The story line of the teenagers was real it was messy and didn't tie up with a neat bow.

Domestic suspense is a genre that is hit or miss for me, and THE BLOCK PARTY fell somewhere in the middle. I did enjoy how the story was told; the reader is immediately thrown into the action with the murder at the neighborhood block party, and then time rewinds to share the events of the past year.

Alton Road is an an exclusive zip code, and only the most affluent can afford to call it home. Of course we all wonder about the secrets are neighbors may be harboring, but this plot suffered from too many outrageous secrets...suspected domestic violence, whispers of a murderess, the neighborhood drunk, a stalker, and the list goes on and on. There were too many characters doing too much.

The ending was clever and everything did tie together, but I just wasn't invested in these characters. There really wasn't anyone to root for. Many thanks to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for my early copy. THE BLOCK PARTY will publish July 18, 2023.

The Block Party kept me guessing until the end with all the plot twists and all the drama of the families on Alton Street. A very good read told through the eyes of a mother and daughter. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.

The Block Party is a light, clever, slightly suspense-filled drama packed with family secrets. Alex, one of the block Moms, drinks too much and her husband and daughter know it. All the characters have secrets and some seek revenge. The novel is plot driven and has little character development.

Do we ever REALLY know our friends? What secrets do they have that might affect us? The book opens with scenes from a neighborhood block party that goes all wrong and people end up dead but we don't know who. We then move to other neighbors in the area chatting about it on Facebook which I think is great. Facebook comment conversations are very entertaining theses days and the author plays on that throughout the book. Next, the book goes back in time telling the story of the year prior to that fateful day. It tells the story of the families in the cul de sac and how they interact; husbands, wives and kids. I thought the story was suspenseful and entertaining. There were many twits and turns and I enjoyed the conclusion.

This was a great read!! I loved the story but was a bit confusing in the beginning- the flip flop of time and events was difficult to follow at first.
The story reminded me of my cul de sac with lots of families who have a lot going on. Including drama. It all came together and it was great.
Quite a few typos in the book too. Overall, I loved it.

Wow! This one will keep you guessing! The characters are diverse and I felt like I really knew them. Very well written. I can surmise that this type of book is very difficult to write. The story is fast paced and I didn't want to stop reading! I would definitely read another book by this author!

Sorry to say this is a DNF for me which is something I never do! Read over 20% of the book and just couldn’t finish. All the characters so far are just blah and the teen is a little too juvenile for me. Definitely wasn’t for me. Thank you for letting me give an honest review of this book.

Oh, the drama and secrets! Just when you think you know your neighbors, think again. This story introduces you to a crime and then takes you back neighborhood block party the year before and tells the story. You will not see most of it coming, but be prepared, because you can’t put this one down until you turn the very last page.
