Told in a year long flashback, the neighbors of Alton Road will forever be remembering their annual Memorial Day Block Party.
Seduction,, infidelity, secret drinking, drugs, scandal and many secrets are just some of the reasons to suspect each of the neighbors in murder.
As the story unfolds it gets more and more intricate and no one is safe from secrets.

The Block Party by Jamie Day pulls you in right from the beginning. Written from
A few different characters point of view it is the story of a group of neighbors who hold deep secrets from one another until it all comes to a head. I really enjoyed this book and how developed all the characters were. I loved how the ending wrapped everything up as well, great read!

Oh how I loved this book! From the opening pages of The Block Party I was hooked not just because of the set up but the writing style and voice of the characters. The story begins at the annual neighborhood block party and we soon learn there has been a murder but we don’t know the details. We flash back to the party one year earlier and as time passes we find out more about the neighbors and their drama and issues. Part of the story is from the first person by the teenage character Lettie. I adored her voice and how she strung together words and phrases in a fun and witty way. Most of the rest of the story comes from the third person perspective of Lettie’s mother Alex.

Overall it was a fast fun read with some surprising reveals and outcomes, It had clues, tension and drama but never dragged things out in a frustrating way. I think this will be a big seller when it comes out in July.

This is a good book! There is an ensemble cast for the year-long story, featuring neighboring families who live on a cul-de-sac in Massachusetts. Their dramas and secrets unfold, as their lives are connected. This is a good combined domestic drama and coming of age story. Recommended!

I really could not get into it at all. I kept getting a feeling of deja vu when I was reading but there was no way I could have read this before. It just read like any one of a dozen or so books about a neighborhood party. It also seemed to be written at a fifth grade level which was odd given the subject matter.

The Alton Road Memorial Day Block Party is the envy of the neighborhood, especially as the residents of neighboring streets are not invited. However, this year's party is one they will be glad they missed, as it ends in homicide. Members of the neighborhood social media page speculate as to what has happened, who was involved and why, as well as sharing gossip and trashing the residents of Alton Road. After a little intro to the party and the neighborhood, featuring some embarrassing moments for Alexandra (Alex) Fox, who is an alcoholic and one of the main characters, the story shifts to the block party a year earlier. The story then progresses over the next year, as the reader learns more about the residents and their problems and secrets, leading up to the tragic events at this year's block party. The characters are all flawed and several of them, once you learn their secrets, are morally reprehensible. Some of the "secrets" are predictable or not very surprising, but there are also some very good surprises. Characters withholding information, making incorrect assumptions or trying to avoid embarrassment will make situations worse.

The neighborhood's annual Summer block party results in sirens and murder this year. Gossip begins to swirl, and the background of the various neighbors is unraveled as the story goes forward. This is a good story with interesting characters, many secrets, and lots of questions as the reader attempts to solve the murder.

The Block Party, Jamie Day
I was fortunate to receive an early copy of this book, from this brand new author, thanks to NetGalley. It’s hard to believe this is Jamie’s first novel because it is an excellent read and so well written.
The Block Party is set in an upper class, New England, town where every Memorial Day there is a huge party in their cul-da-sac.
The book starts with a murder happening at the annual party! It then backtracks and tells the story leading up to the event. There are 5 families in the neighborhood, each having their own story…or should I say secrets. There are a lot of characters, so it gets confusing, at times, keeping everyone’s story straight, but this was a really great read that any thriller reader would enjoy. This book releases on July 18th!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The people who live on Alton Road have it all. Money, looks, smart children, and this road is envied by everyone else living in Meadowbrook. At the annual Memorial Day block party, It’s hard to imagine anyone who wouldn’t want to trade places with any of these residents. Be careful what you wish for though because by the time you read the last page of The Block Party, you might see cracks in quite a few of these perfect foundations.
Told from two POV‘s, Alex and her daughter Lettie, we soon discover that looks can be quite deceiving in this neighborhood. Each of the main characters has a distinctive personality, and I had no trouble keeping track of them. We know from the start that the police wind up at the party, but why and more importantly is anyone hurt or maybe even dead?
I enjoyed Alex‘s chapters a bit more than Lettie’s (who is in high school), probably just me but I had a bit of trouble relating to her age, though her issues were quite similar to my own high school days. As for the adults, there were so many flawed characters and so many twists and I enjoyed every cray cray, juicy secret
Two words for this book that publishes in July: Beach Read!!!!

I loved Lettie. I’m not sure she would exist in real life but she was a fun complicated character. The rest of the characters felt a bit forced to me. The book held my interest enough for me to finish it but and this one wasn’t a great read for me. Perhaps it is due to the fact that it isn’t my favorite genre so others may enjoy it more.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an early release in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The Block Party by J. Day, published by St. Martin's Press, is a murder mystery stand-alone. A story told in multiple povs, packed with unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing til the last chapter.
Welcome to Alex, Nick and Lettie's story, along with these of their neighbors, relatives and friends - intriguing, unputdownable.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the eARC.
A fun read, with lots of human action in a wealthy neighborhood. The 2 main characters, mother Alex and daughter Lettie, are very likeable and we hear the story from their pov's. Lettie was my favorite.
A murder is committed in the present at the annual summer block party; then we go back to the previous block party and the year leading up to the murder. Lots of gossipy, naughty things, and scandalous doings...very entertaining!
Definitely recommended!

This book was an enjoyable read filled with mystery and suspense. An interesting concept of having the reader figure out which two characters die. Enough twists to keep the reader interested. This is a book which I would recommend to others.

“What is up with the men on Alton Road?…When did they all go nuts?”

It’s not just the men. We know from the first pages that there have been multiple fatalities at the neighborhood’s annual block party. We won’t know what happened until the surprising conclusion of the wild ride that is The Block Party. Alex and her daughter Lettie are narrators to the drama and no one on this exclusive street is innocent. Alcoholism, blackmail, adultery, abuse and obsession are just some of the secrets hidden behind closed doors. As the seasons change, we learn more about each family and their secrets. Alex will confront personal problems that are affecting both her marriage and her relationship with her daughter. Vulnerable Lettie will realize that the way she handled a situation has only made it much, much worse and that she has put people she loves in danger.

The Block Party is a fast, satisfying read. This is domestic drama at its best, a perfect beach read. Enjoy! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Jamie Day for this ARC.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of The Block Party by Jamie Day
Well this was a book I didn't want to put down. Well developed plot and characters, they were introduced well during the story to allow the reader to remember who is who. A good amount of drama and who dunnit.
Alex, main character seems to be the go to for residents of Alton road, she is married to Nick who has concerns about her wine intake, and they have a daughter Lettie, who is a typical teenager and distances herself from her parents. They are in the midst of the annual summer block party when things start to go sideways. Rewind a year to give us some perspective on what led to todays events, and we are introduced to the rest of the characters. There is a lot that happens in this book and it's told from two perspectives, both Alex and her daughter Lettie. It works well. There is drama and twists and it all comes together and makes sense at the end. Great plot! The author weaves the final discovery very well between the two narratives. I liked the added comments from neighbors not involved in the immediate story from the Meadowbrook Online Community page, that really added something different to the novel.
Honestly a great read! First book for me from this author, but I will be waiting for the next!

Love love love! This was such a fun read. I feel, The Block Party, has been made to be a tv drama. I ate it up scene by scene picturing Desperate Housewives. I can’t wait to see what Jamie Day comes out with next. What an extraordinary first book! Funny, engaging, thought provoking who done it! I absolutely adored the community posts…I live in a similar neighborhood where I am reading out the neighborhood gossip and taking screenshots of posts before they are deleted. This was such a fun read!

Thank you NetGalley for inviting me to read, The Block Party, in exchange for my honest review!

Couldn’t put this book down! Wisteria Lane, desperate housewives all over again! I literally read this book in one sitting. Jamie Day may be my new go to author! If you are a fan of Liv Constantine, Sally Hepworth and Abby Drake then this book is for you! No one really knows what is going on behind the closed doors of anyones house and in this neighborhood, lives are intertwined more than anyone realizes. Thank you again for the advance copy - can’t wait to read more from this Author!

Enjoyable. I found the chapters from Lettie's POV somewhat drawn out and too juvenile for my taste. Not an edge of your seat suspense novel but interesting enough to continue reading to the end.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This thriller explored the complex relationships between neighbors. The good, the bad and the ugly. The twists and turns kept me reading. I enjoyed the characters and the story. I highly recommend this thriller for your summer reading list.
