***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of THE BLOCK PARTY by Jamie Day in exchange for my honest review.***

Reading THE BLOCK PARTY took me back to childhood block parties from the 1970s and made me wonder how well I knew my neighbors.

THE BLOCK PARTY reminds me of the TV series Desperate Housewives. Privileged neighbors with dysfunctional relationships and secrets that between couples, families, individuals and strangers rise to a deadly crescendo during one fateful Memorial Day block party.

Smart writing and a touch of sarcastic humor keeps THE BLOCK PARTY from taking itself too seriously with melodrama in this mystery. Though not specifically humorous, I chuckled to myself a few times turning the pages on my kindle to discover victim(s) and perp(s).

The plot and characters are too complicated to summarize, just know that everyone and everything is more complex than at first glance.

I bet THE BLOCK PARTY will make a fabulous audiobook in the voice of the right narration casting. I can’t wait to see what Jamie Day comes up with next.
