Lots of twists and turns at the end that I didn’t see coming. Loved the character development and the exploration of relationships. Revenge is something everyone has thought about but most people don’t act on. It was interesting to see how multiple characters dealt with the same topic

Great book! Flew threw this one and really enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone. This book caught my eye with the cover alone!

I liked this, but I didn't fall in love with it. I think that the structure didn't quite work for me. The structure certainly made sense in theory: the "incident" followed by what led up to it and then returning to it to finish out the story.. But I guess the middle went on too long for me and I just wanted to get to the climax. Also, I'm not sure about Lettie's first-person POV versus Alex's third-person POV. I felt a little removed from Alex and would have preferred first person for both. I did enjoy the Next Door-type comments interspersed throughout the book. 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4..

This book was incredible! I love the writing style of this author. If you are into real housewife type mystery’s, this book is for you!

I have to say this book went above my expectations. This was an addictive read that I could not stop thinking about until I finished it.
I love that we get POVs from Alex and her daughter, Lettie, showcasing their very opposite personalities. I loved the drama, the mystery, the secrets, just everything about this book was so intriguing. And let me just add; the ending is jaw-dropping.
We start at the Memorial Day block party where Alex has too much to drink and ends up sleeping it off only to be woken by sirens. We then find out through the neighborhood online community page that the unthinkable has happened; someone has been killed at the block party. We’re then taken back a year to walk through the events and incidents that led up to that block party and we watch this mystery unfold.
The characters in this book are so well crafted and will keep you so immersed in the story and the plot twists will make this book so incredibly hard to put down. Typically I find it hard to become fully engrossed in a book with so many supporting characters, but every character was so unique that each one added the perfect amount to the story.
I would have loved to seen POVs from some of the other characters, but that does not at all take away from how great this book is overall. This would also make for a great TV show adaptation. 4.5 stars!

The story begins with a murder, and then we go back and try to figure out which of the MANY characters committed the crime. Alton Road is full of wealthy people, and it seems like every one of them has a hidden agenda or a secret they don't want to be revealed, so you have lots of twists and turns on your way to the surprise ending. Very entertaining novel and a fun read.

What a great book! Reading it was a blast and I immediately added it to my book club list. I loved the suspense of it and really enjoyed the writing style! The twists of this book was so fun to read about, and I can't wait to read it again. Can’t wait to read more of this author

I really enjoyed The Block Party, the story of a group of neighbors in a semi-exclusive cul-de-sac. The neighbors are all close friends but their worlds get shaken up a bit when a new family moves in right after the annual block party. Suddenly everyone’s perfect facade starts to crack and secrets come spilling out leading up to the unthinkable happening at the following years party.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and St Martin’s Press for access to this ARC.

In the town of Meadowbrook, the exclusive Alton road community holds an annual summer block party, But this year, the party is to die for. Bit by bit, the community pieces together what exactly happened during this exclusive party.
What I loved: The author did a great job weaving together the individual stories of a very large cast. The plot was filled with twists and turns and kept me guessing up to the very end. I also enjoyed the perspectives of both an older and younger set of characters.
What I didn’t love: The amount of characters felt a little confusing for a bit, especially with multiple couples going through similar troubles. The switching back and forth between the past tense with Alex and presence tense with Lettie was a little off-putting. I also didn’t always buy Lettie’s voice as a modern day teenager (she read more like an elder millennial trying to sound like teenager than a real gen z voice).
Overall, a fast paced and entertaining read that I enjoyed! 3.5/5

Multiple families living on a cul-de-sac and an annual Memorial Day Block party bring up past lies and buried secrets they wanted to stay hidden.. all of which will be uncovered and end in murder..
This book started out grabbing my attention from the start and then towards the middle it got a little slow for me and it made it hard to pick it up again to start reading. There were lots of slide plots that I wasn’t sure needed to be told but once I got to the end it made sense why the author wanted us to have that information. I also did guess a few of the twists, which I don’t necessarily love because I enjoy that shock factor.
The suspense and the fast paced ending it was made me change my original 3 star rating to a 4.

This is not your typical thriller - but those on Alton Road are not your typical neighbors. I thought this book did an excellent job at creating a neighborhood where you became invested in every character (and in every character’s business). It just goes to show you that the grass isn’t always greener.
Some of the characters were unlikeable, which can happen in real life - you don’t get to choose your neighbors. But I did like that it ended with a somewhat happy ending (for some), which you don’t always get in real life.
And yes, I guessed who the killer was (but only one of them - if you know, you know).

Do you remember that show Desperate Housewives? This book reminded me so much of that show. I seriously felt like I was watching a long lost season. Instead of Desperate Housewives it would be called Desperate Housewives of Alton road, or The Real Housewives of Meadowbrook for those of you who are too young to know the other show.
The Block Party is filled with so much drama I could hardly keep up, and thanked my lucky stars I don't live in a neighborhood like that. I like neighborhood gossip just as much as the next guy, but this was nonstop. How can one neighborhood handle it all. You will have to read it to find out.
This will be a good one to add to your summer book list. Its entertaining, suspenseful, and chucked full of drama.

The Memorial Day Block Party is always the talk of Meadowbrook. Every year Alex plays host to the exclusive cup-de-sac get together but this year chaos breaks out. The book goes back exactly one year to the previous Memorial Day Block Party. Alton Road is full of secrets. No family is perfect and its a true testament to how little others know the people around them . A series of intense situations all build until the final boiling point that erupts.
This is such a great domestic thriller. My interest was held from the first page, Jamie Day gives you just enough bread crumbs chapter after chapter to keep you wanting more. I read this in one sitting, having to know what happened! The relationships between family members, friends, neighbors, etc were all so relatable.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press, the author and Netgalley for an e-ARC of this novel. I was very intrigued by this book's synopsis and it definitely delivered on the drama. I really enjoyed this one and am giving it 4 stars. I enjoyed the multiple characters, multiple plot lines and the details and twists that all came together at the end. Definitely recommend!

“the block party” by jamie day is the story of lies and deceit in an affluent neighborhood. we follow alex, an attorney turned divorce mediator, and her seventeen year old daughter lettie. throughout the year leading up to a murder on the block, both mother and daughter uncover dark, twisted secrets about everyone who lives on their street.
at the end of this novel, i still couldn’t figure out the exact motives for most of the people in the neighborhood who did what they did. their actions seem over the top. while this is an enjoyable tale, it does feel rather long and drags in some places. while alex is a wonderfully written woman with a lot of nuance and an alcohol problem, lettie is entitled and annoying; i think this novel would have been better if it solely focused on alex and her story.

TW: murder, miscarriage, alcohol and drug use, domestic assault, rape
We all know I am a faithful New Englander so the fact that this was set in a small town in Massachusetts made this an easy sell. The gossip on the towns Facebook site was a close second lol I love a good town gossip site. The amount of twists and turns in this book was swoon worthy. I loved that it read almost like a Bravo show.
The Block Party was a face paced novel full of everything a thriller lover dreams of. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for everyone to get their hands on it come July!

I really enjoy reading books about neighbors that have way too much time invested in each other. This one was really well written and not too hard to follow with too many different perspectives! I loved the build up, I kept wondering when the ball was gonna drop!

This book had a lot going on - time jumps, dual perspectives, community social media posts, and a bunch of different mysteries within the plot. It made for a quick-moving story and a ton of excitement. Overall, I liked this a lot - rich people community drama never disappoints! 4/5 stars.

I was so excited to read this but it just wasn't for me. I disliked the writing style and could never get used to it. The characters were awful, shallow people with the entitlement of royalty without ruling. It was a tangled web of these terribly dry folks and it got confusing. There were just too many people to keep track of. There was some intrigue in the drama--th same juicy drama supplied by bad reality tv.
