What a wonderful manga! Sanchez has created something really special with this one as it hits all three main points I think every good manga should have- Unique characters you care for, an interesting plot that runs smoothly & pleasing art.

This is not only drawn beautifully but it flows so naturally that I hadn't even realized I'd reached the end! I could easily read another volume about the adult lives of Blanca and Dani. Both girls are characters you can root for and their progression from strangers to friends to more was so delicate and beautiful. It was clear that they play off of one another's strengths in the best ways to come in to their own selves. Very well done, would definitely recommend this one!

A beautifully illustrated standalone graphic novel with a really sweet and tender romance at its heart. I loved reading about Dani and Blanca and would love to see more of their story.

Sanchez KILLED it with this. Sirius is a delightful romance/slice of life. This manga is incredibly wholesome and watching Dani’s healing journey is great to see.
Thank you to IPG & NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review of content.

Thank you so much to Tokyopop and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC; it is greatly appreciated.

This ended up being a cute one-shot that shows you can work through trauma and still find light in your life. One of the characters, Dani, had a heart attack as a teenager, and needed to have open heart surgery, so she is experiencing the loss of what she thought her life was going to be. Then comes in the shining star of Blanca, who shows her that she can still dream, and that the scars of her past are not ugly.

Since this is a one-shot their romance obviously moves quite quickly, and feels a little insta-love. There is nothing explicit in this manga. There is actually a time skip for the Epilogue, which leaves this story ending on the perfect note. The subject matter could have gone a bit deeper, but I think it works quite well for a younger audience. This really is a cute manga with a good message, and it's as simple as that.

This is a cute story about a female high school tennis champion who goes to the seaside to recover from a sudden heart attack. She meets another high school girl who is visiting the area during vacation with her older sister. Both of them become close and help each other heal old wounds. It was a very pleasant read and the art is lovely.

Dani is a rising tennis star until a sudden heart attack during a match puts her dreams on hold. Aimless and fighting her her mom (a tennis pro who served as her coach) Dani escapes to a seaside village to live with her cousin. Here she meets Blanca, a energetic and high-spirited girl in love with astronomy. The two become fast friends, and as their friendship turns into something more, the girls find themselves thinking of what will happen when summer ends. I really liked this story, the art was really good and the story itself was cute and well done. The focus is on the characters, and so their relationship and character arcs form the basis for the plot. I also liked that we get an epilogue part of sorts, showing what happens to Dani and Blanca in the future. This is a single volume work, so some parts feel rushed, but overall this was a good book that was fun to read.

Thank you NetGalley and LOVE X LOVE for a copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

🤷🏻‍♀️ My one and only complaint is that the ending was a bit ubrupt and I would have liked more build up.
👍🏻Beautiful illustrations.
👍🏻Great story line, easy to get into.
👍🏻Kept me wanting to read to find out more about the characters.
👍🏻Representation of youth with health issues.
👍🏻Representation of daughters with toxic mothers.
👍🏻Dual timelines in the beginning were really well done.
👍🏻The romance was simple and cute, not overdone.
👍🏻This story broke my heart at times, but in the best way.
👍🏻Please make this into an anime because I will watch the fuck out of it.

How do you continue when your dreams are no longer an option? For example, when your dreams succeeded in ruining your relationship with your mother, and your dreams almost killed you?

We find out with this manga as we follow Dani as she grabbles with how to live when all she has known is gone, and the price she paid for it is worthless. It isn't until an unlikely friendship and then love begins that we see her begin to improve her mental state and vision for the future. And honestly, you can see her turn around her friends' life too.

"Sirius is actually made up of two stars that move together, connected by the force of gravity." That thought is the heart of this story, and how can you not feel something after that?!

A wholesome manga about chasing dreams - and being gay, of course - SIRIUS: TWIN STARS brings devastated and closed-off Dani into sparkling and earnest Bianca’s orbit while both are on “summer vacation”. Dani’s pain is evident in every single panel where she’s the focus, using motifs of breaking glass, dark backgrounds, lots of negative space, and of course heart-pounding SFX to draw the reader into her mindset.

Bianca on the other hand is always talking. Every single panel she’s in has at least one line. She also feels very realistic (a perfect balance to Dani’s “this is definitely a manga character” situation); you get the sense she’s excitable and tends to speak without thinking but she also comes to be self aware over the course of the story.

I am a little concerned about how much moving around Dani was doing only 3 months after a major surgery but ehh fiction logic.

There is also an HP reference in the epilogue… which, unnecessary.
