This book is a great pick-me-up between seasons of Bridgerton. The writing is solid, and the second half heats up with steamy scenes and plenty of romantic drama. While I breezed through it and had a good time overall, I couldn't shake my frustration with the attempt to redeem Mr. Thorne. He was just too unbearable and awful to be believably redeemed without more development.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a quick and entertaining read with a dash of romance and drama, this book fits the bill. While it may not be perfect, its engaging writing style and compelling storyline make it a worthwhile choice for fans of the genre.

I had high hopes for this one, but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the main characters. I also found it very distracting to the story that side characters had POV chapters.

Thank you to the author & NetGalley for an e-ARC of this book.

Julia Bennet's "The Worst Woman in London" is a historical romance that explores the complexities of love and redemption. Set in the vibrant and scandalous world of Victorian London, the story follows Frances Thorne,

Francesca (Frances) is determined to break free from her oppressive marriage and live life on her own terms. Her plans are complicated when a friend of her past, James Standish, comes back into her orbit. James, on the other hand, is torn between his duty to his family and his growing feelings for Francesca.

As their forbidden love blossoms, Francesca and James must navigate the treacherous waters of Victorian society, where scandal and ruin lurk around every corner. Will they risk everything for a chance at happiness, or will they succumb to the pressures of society? As they embark on an affair, they discover that their pasts may not define their futures.

A delightful read full of humour and heart! I would recommend for fans of Evie Dunmore or Martha Watters. I loved reading about these characters. I laughed, cried, and just felt so satisfied by the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This started off well and I loved the concept of a more experienced heroine. I also found the idea of a character going through a divorce in Victorian times very intriguing. However other parts didn't work well for me. Like the POV shifts to characters other than the two main characters.
Thank you, Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Normally I love a historical romance but this book just really didn’t do it for me. The premise of the book is that Francesca is seeking to divorce her husband (which is unheard of generally for the time period) and James is his best friend who gets mixed into trying to convince Francesca not to divorce Edward and instead take a sum of money. Naturally chaos ensues romantically between Francesca and James. It was just lacking the type of heat and passion I love to read in these kinds of books. James just felt predictable and Francesca was a little too woe-is-me at times.

A cute, fun read! I love a period piece with my whole heart! The overall pacing of the book was kind of slow, but i did really enjoy James' and Fran's relationship dynamic. It was fun to read.

When I read the synopsis for this book I thought I had found myself a perfect read, however.... the execution wasn't as good as I would have expected. The pace was painfully slow (or maybe that was just my experience with it) and I only really cared for the main characters (not so much for anyone else). The exploration of topics like divorce in such a setting is nonetheless intriguing and the book is undoubtedly a fun time.

I absolutely loved this book! I loved the romance and connection between James and Fran. And while Edward was a slight pain in the beginning I liked that he was able to learn from his mistakes and find his own happy ending too.

I haven't ready many historical romance but this one had a very interesting premise and decent chemistry between the two main characters. I would have liked to see more build-up though for the romance but otherwise enjoyed the book!

THE COVER IS STUNNING. This read was probably my first historical romance but oh boy was it good. I was so invested in the story and I love the Victorian vibes.I love how the characters were able to work through their issues and find joy together at the end.

First of all, this cover is EVERYTHING! And a plus side is I enjoyed the story within as well! It was a little spicy for my taste, but overall super enjoyable.

A simple, sweet story of forbidden love. Francesca wants a divorce, but her husband would rather just have a separation. Edward sends his best friend James to plead his case, but over time, James and Francesca fall in love. The greatest obstacle in this book is less the husband and more the societal norms that they must adhere to in order to ensure Francesca may be granted a divorce.

I wanted to love this. It had so much potential - older main characters, sex in the Victorian Era, However, I cannot finish this. I never want to pick it up. I have been trying to read this since February. I think I find it too depressing. Also, the secondary characters are so unlikeable. They ruin the flow of the book. This is a DNF for me.

Quick and Dirty⁣
-witty, with many chuckle-worthy moments⁣
-fiercely independent female lead⁣
-secret rendezvous and liaisons ⁣
-sexy but not too smutty (open-ish door)⁣

Thoughts⁣
I freaking loved this!!! It was SO much fun. I didn't know what to expect going in, but I'm very glad I requested this one. I want to support more independent authors, and if other indy books are as good as this one I'll be requesting them all. The author's writing style was fresh and modern but also reminiscent of old favorites. There were many parallels to Thackeray's 𝘝𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳, which made me SO happy. Becky Sharp is one of my all-time fav female MCs, and I could definitely see glimpses of Ms Sharp in Francesca. She's strong-willed and principled, but she's also a bit of a risk-taker. Heads turn when she walks in the door, but she won't let a scandal get her down. A woman after my own heart! I loved the romance, even the steamy scenes (which were tastefully written). And the ending was perfect!!! I really want everyone to give this one a shot! If you've got KU do yourself a favor and snag this one. Fans of Victorian-era romances with a healthy dose of wit and steam will enjoy it for sure.

I don't typically enjoy Victorian reads, but this book was an exception. I love how the characters were able to work through their issues and find joy together at the end.
