My, my, my! I adored this book! I have read it in a day and couldn't put the book down. I loved the enemies to lovers trope in it and Rye is such a sweetheart. I loved how the characters developed themself and how the writer gave you more and more to think about any time you thought you had it all figured out.

I thought this was a very original book. I loved the combination of pirates, magic, evil sirens and the mythical gods. I loved that these last group were acting as humans and helping out where they could. The relationship between Lou and her crew was wonderful and I loved Rye's backstory.

I would definitely recommend this book and I desperately want to read what comes after this!

I loved this book. I would definitely recommend for those looking for an adventurous fast paced story with mermaids and pirates. The end started to get odd and a bit juvenile and I could have done without the epilogue completely. I would rather we hear more of the main characters adventures in a sequel.

Enemies to lovers, high-fantasy, forced proximity, HEA, very light spice
Captain Elouise Farrington is the youngest pirate on the Caviar Sea, seeking revenge on her father's killer with her all-female crew. When the Isle of Cava's royal navy captain, Captain Rylander Bordeaux, proposes a pact to kill the Siren Queen and end the War of the Sea, Elouise has to make a choice. Put aside her desire for revenge or use the alliance to claim the life of the man who destroyed her family. Elouise is Rylander's only hope of facing his past and ending the war that threatens everything he holds dear, but can he trust the woman who wants him dead to uphold her end of the bargain?

WOTS throws you into the action from the first chapter, and the dual POV allows the reader to truly understand Lou (Elouise) and Rylander whilst still never falling into the trap of dumping background or other critical information all in one go. As a lover of mythology, especially Greek, I adored the details Dana incorporated into her world, and combining it with pirates and enemies-to-lovers (one of the best tropes imo) resulted in a really enjoyable read. I really like Lou (Elouise) as a character as she has flaws that feel completely realistic given her backstory; she did act childishly and carelessly and let her temper get the best of her often. That made it so much sweeter when she ended up trusting Rylander and truly allowing herself to care for others and love her found family.
For me, this book was a perfect balance of easy familiarity and complex originality; Greek mythology is something most readers are familiar with, but Dana used aspects and details that are perhaps novel to many; some sections are predictable, but the characters are well-developed, and you can't help rooting for them and loving them. I loved this book as much as I did because, from the moment I started it, I was drawn in, following the characters through their journey, feeling Lou's anger and Rylander's pain and finishing it feeling their happiness and love. If you're looking for something with twists and turns that you can never predict or with a completely novel world and lore, then maybe this isn't the book for you. But if you're looking for a book with a beautiful blend of Greek mythology, pirates, and an enemies-to-lovers romance between two loveable characters, a whole host of interesting and enjoyable side characters, and something that will have you smiling, then I would absolutely recommend this book.

War of the Sea is a very thrilling book, which raises a lot of questions: Who is Lou? Who is Rylander? What happened before?...

I never read a book before, where the first sentence was so thrilling as in War of the Sea.

I love the mixture out of fights, loyalties and romances. Especially, when Lou has to make decisions to save her crew but also has to decide, whether to trust the man, who killed her father, or not...

I read this book in a day!!! Absolutely love the world-building, which felt unlike anything I have read before. The tinge of romance also had me swooning at every page. Don’t event get me started on the drama and political intrigue!!! This author has hit the ball out of the park with another fantastic story! She is immediately a go-to author for me now. Dana Claire knows what she’s doing and delivers yet another phenomenal action-packed, heart-pounding read!!

I really enjoyed this book! It played out just like a movie! The writing wasn’t overly-descriptive, the pacing was pretty good. The one thing i didn’t like was the FMC, Lou. She was just too over the top for me. There was nothing endearing about her. I kept hoping poor Rye would find a more sensible, not-so-over reactive love interest! And it may have been my strong dislike for Lou that I didn’t feel any chemistry between the MCs. Still a good read! Would love to read about the land adventures.

"A refreshing story, with a setting overflowing with magic and memorable characters. A promise of adventure full of secrets. Nothing better than an enemies-to-lovers story at sea. Simply beautiful. I loved it."
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. It was a pleasure.

Pirates, Sirens and Greek Gods? Well that's a combination I never expected or knew I needed in my life.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Did it annoy the hell out of me at times? Absolutely - especially that ending... I mean seriously why you gotta leave us hanging like that 😂
Will I be reading the next one when its released? 100%

I have to say I'm a sucker for Greek Mythology in books and usually Apollo is my favourite but I have to say Hermes takes the crown for me in this book.

Thankyou NetGalley for a free copy! :)

War of the Sea by Dana Claire - 4/5

Romance - Sci Fi & Fantasy - Teens & YA

War of the Sea was a different read for me. It did take some time to get into the story but once it picks up, I was eager to continue reading. Throughout the story we have some enemies to lovers, forced proximity, pirates, sirens and some Greek mythology. The characters were fun to read about, the jokes and banter between them made them feel real and relatable.

‘War of the Sea’ by Daña Claire was such a unique, interesting story! Full of mythology, amazingly written characters across the board, an enemies-to-lovers romance, and high sea adventures with an all-woman pirate crew, this book was an absolutely thrilling, intense romp and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely recommend!

I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced, witty and gave me Pirates of the Caribbean and To Kill a Kingdom vibes. Lou and Rye are both lovable and interesting characters, Lou is a spitfire, while Rye tries to be a bit more reasonable (emphasis on trying). Liked both ships' crew, the worldbuilding, inclusion of the Greek Gods, but not overwhelming the setting. Would have loved to read even more of the sirens and the world in general.

It was a quick and fun read, looking forward to reading more of this world! Would recommend it for people who'd like to read a YA enemies-to-lovers, fantasy pirate adventure.

Loved the Pirates of the Caribbean and greek mythology vibes in this book! The world building and the multiple points of view were all written very nicely (although i did notice some grammar/spelling mistakes). The action sequences were all very intriguing and kept me turning the pages. One thing I was not a big fan of was the insta-love trope, but I kept reading and I am glad that I did! Great fantasy read!

I thoroughly enjoyed War of the Sea, and I loved the use of mythology in the story alongside pirate and siren adventures (a sub-genre I r enjoy). I'm not a huge fan of the insta-love feeling (although the author tried to play it as enemies-to-lovers) between the main characters, which is why I'm giving it four stars instead of five!

Unfortunately, despite my piqued interest in this title, I did not get the chance to read it in time to publish a review before the full release.

The book was really funny and entertaining. I enjoyed the banter and the jokes. It made me laugh out loud at many moments.
Some of the tropes in the book are reverse grumpy x sunshine, enemies to lovers, forced to collaborate, only one ship.
Really enjoyed the fact that the book starts right in the middle of the action. I hate it when a book drags at the beginning and takes time to pick up but that was not a problem with this book.
I liked the two main characters as well as the side characters. I had already guessed the plot twists to that wasn't a big surprise. I mean it was a bit obvious. There were some points in the book where i was a bit annoyed by Lou and Rye and sure some moments were a bit rushed but all in all i had fun reading this.

First of all, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book pretty much started straight in with no preamble, though I am curious about when this story takes place.

I loved Lou and Rylander. Though they were a little too perfect, even with Lou being quick to temper.

I wasn't expecting this book to be as heavy on the Greek mythology as it was, but I found that to be a pleasant surprise.

This book was a very easy read, felt well paced and with characters I really liked.

Let me start my review with this: This is not a bad book. It's easy to read, has a nice pacing, the romance is mostly believable and the story gets you enough to keep you going. However, it's not a great book.

Setting: I am very confused as to when this takes place? The talk is about pirates and the clothing sounded like late 17th century the earliest. The names of the characters are either very anglophone and french or Greek. also there is Greek Gods? But The villain is a Siren called Lorelei, a creature out of the German Mythology.

Characters: Our protagonist is blond, pretty, slim and supeclever. A female pirate with a perfect moral compass. Her loveinterest is...gorgeous in any aspect (not to spoil anything).

Plot: Got to the island and killthe Siren Queen. That's it. Around that somehow there was the need to add a ball/fine dining scene, several almost sexy scenes and a few weird interactions with the crew.

The whole fertitly thing: I mean, wtf? Did they never hear about contraception? Obviously not, as in the Epilouge 5 years after the events they have a 5yearold....

All in al this was a classical YA-Fantasy with all its tropes. A quick, enjoyable read.

I would’ve finished this book sooner if i didn’t have school and other things that came up because it was that good. If you like mythology and pirates this one is for you! I really liked the way the author was able to mix in the mythology in her story. This was in a dual pov but each pov was so different to the other. The world building was something else even through it was mostly at sea it felt descriptive. All characters were written so well that when it came down to the final scene I felt bad for the villain. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes pirates, enemies to lovers, woman villain, and mythology.
