I loved the first one so I was excited to see this latest one on our library’s digital service months before the release date (still not sure how or why). While I enjoyed the setting and the mystery in this one, the interactions between Tate and Darby felt off to me, not at all like the first one. The mystery was solid and it did keep me guessing until the very end. Hoping I will warm up to the main characters again in the next one.

ETA: I did receive a copy from #NetGalley and read it again. My thoughts about Tate and Darby’s relationship have not changed.

I also did not expect to get a copy of the audiobook to review but have already listened to it and my review is not affected.

A fun mystery with a decent cast of characters. Darby is trying to figure out what her next case will be when her partner's former high school friend asks them to solve who is threatening her husband. With a free weekend at the snowy resort and a good payout at the end, Darby and Tate go for it, only for their client's husband to wind up dead the next morning. Struggling with her ex-boyfriend the police detective sending her mixed signals and leaving early, Darby and Tate try all they can to figure out who the murderer is. With a not so big twist, this is a fun story to listen to on a cold night with a cozy blanket.

This    mystery has a unique murder weapon, a crossbow. The murder happens on a snowy ski retreat, so just find out who among the guests can fire one, end of story right? Not the case.
The murder victim is a skin care physician mogul who has invited guests in his field for the weekend, they are all hoping to pitch a product he will incorporate in his business. His wife, the face of the product line, owns the lodge and wants to sell it, but she doesn’t know she’s getting replaced by a younger face.
There is a cavalcade of suspects: the long standing director of the lodge sees himself loosing his job, the brother that was overlooked in the will to have ownership of the lodge, the new face of the product line with a back story, the scientist with a new idea that is ignored …..all makes for an interesting whodunnit.
Add a little romance, a big dog, an ornery cat and you have the makings of an afternoon on the couch.

Darby is quickly becoming a favorite private detective! I love her no-nonsense, down to earth approach to solving crimes. She’s a big personality in a small package and she’s not afraid to let others know where she stands. She is realistic about her limitations as well incredibly smart. I love the balance between Darby and Tait as they work together. In this mystery, Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower, Darby and Tait pretend a romance so they can work on a case. There are many twists and turns in this ski-lodge who-dun-it. Several times I thought for sure I had it figured out, until another angle or possibility was introduced. The writing is well done and drew me in and carried at a good pace. I enjoy a good clean, hallmark mystery. I know I can trust the content and I will love the characters. Indulge yourself in this delightful audiobook. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

A little cozy mystery for the winter season. Darby Piper and Tate Porter have a new case. Tate’s old high school girlfriend, Cecily Madd is in town with her husband. They have rented out the most expensive lodge in the area for a big New Year’s Eve party. Cecily tells them that her husband, Dr. Garret Madd has been getting threatening notes and she wants them to uncover who is behind the threats. Dr. Madd does not want to involve the police. Cecily wants Darby and Tate to pose as a couple (awkward). The night after the lavish party, Darby is in the lodge’s gym when she notices someone lying in the snow. She finds Dr. Madd dead with an arrow in his back. Darby and Tate will need to work quickly if they want to identify the killer behind this chilling crime before all their suspects fly the coop. This is part of a series but I have not read previous books and I was okay following the characters and information presented. The characters are believable and love the idea of the pups in the book they always kick up the story a notch for me.

Thank you to Amanda Fowler, NetGalley, and Hallmark Publishing for the arc of this book.

Darby Piper and Tate Porter return in a mystery at a winter ski lodge in upstate New York. This is the second book in the series and Darby and Tate are still learning to work together.
Tate's old friend, Cecily, hires him to look into threatening notes sent to her husband Dr. Madd. She invites them to stay at the lodge.
Right from the beginning things are fishy because Cecily won't let them see the threatening notes. By the next morning Dr. Madd is dead by crossbow arrow.
The book was a bit like a comedy of errors. Miscommunication abounds. And speaking of bounding, there is a fun large dog that helps to lead Darby to clues along the way, which provides some of the comedy.
The mystery is interesting and a bit convoluted.
I received an ebook and audiobook for review. The narrator of the audiobook did a good job.

I absolutely loved this book. Amanda Flower’s other books have been a little too sweet for me. This is perfect. Love the female PI, love the ski lodge setting. The audiobook narrator does an excellent job and the murder keeps you guessing.

Darby and Tate are private investigators who are hired by a famous doctors wife to find out who is sending him anonymous threats. The catch is, the famous doctor does not know about the threats. His wife has seemed to “intercept” them. Darby and Tate are invited to the weekend of events at the Ski Lodge that is in their town and are undercover as a couple. As they start to dig up information on the guests attending the weekend, they run into some problems and end up investigating a murder.

I thought that the story was cute, but childish. The connection between the doctors wife and Tate was different since he was supposed to be hired as her PI and she knew that he was not smart enough to figure out the threats.

Frozen Detective is a fun, wintery mystery that takes place at New Year’s. Darby and Tate take on a case for Tate’s old friend, Cecily (CeCe) Madd. Cecily’s husband has been receiving threatening notes and she’s worried his life is in danger, but of course, she wants to avoid the publicity that calling in the police might bring. Darby and Tate go undercover to a New Year’s party Cecily and Dr. Madd are holding at the nearby ski resort. And, of course, first thing on New Year’s Day, Dr. Madd is killed, shot with a crossbow on the ski slope. The Police close the lodge and ordered the guests to remain. Darby and Tate must find the killer before the weekend ends and the guests leave.

I enjoyed Darby and Tate. Darby is an experienced PI, but Tate is pretty new to the agency and it was good to see how they have to learn to trust each other and recognize each other’s strengths. They seem to get along well, with maybe even a hint of sparks between them. The secondary characters are a quirky bunch with big personalities. There are several potential suspects – turns out Dr. Madd was not a nice man.

The plot moved along at a good pace. The setting was marvelous, someplace I’d love to visit, even if I don’t ski. It was a little easy to guess the whodunnit though.

I listened to the audio which was the right choice. The narrator does a nice job with tone and differentiating the different characters.

I’m looking forward to the third in the series, which we got a little to at the end of this one, I hope. In the meantime, I may have to go back and read the first.

I've been waiting forever for this to come out, YES!!🕵️‍♀️

Book two is fun and doesn't disappoint. Darby Piper runs Piper and Porter Detective Agency in Herrington, New York. Her partner Tate is new to the business but has a military background.

Business is slow so when Tate's old classmate Cece needs their expertise to find the person sending menacing letters to her famous dermatologist husband, they jumped at the opportunity.

The detective duo goes incognito to a New Year's party/weekend at a fancy ski resort owned by Cece. There will be many high profile guests and perhaps the owner of the letters will also be attending. Before you know it, Dr. Madd, Cece's husband is found dead by an arrow.💘

"Frozen Detective" sure kept me guessing until the perp is revealed. Many characters have a convincing motive to kill the Doctor. I'm happy to say that I got it wrong.😆 I enjoy these characters and the pet cat (Gumshoe) and St. Bernard dog (Tiny) are lovely too. Looking forward to #3!

🎧Laura Faye Smith did a great job with the narration.

The Frozen Detective is the second book in the Piper and Porter series. I had no knowledge of the first entry into this series and had no issues getting into the story and enjoying the book.

The two main characters, Darby Piper and Tate Porter are private investigators tasked with going undercover as a couple to start an investigation. The investigation takes place during a party at a private ski resort. They are hired by Cecily Madd who suspects her husband is in danger. Soon after the party and the investigation started, you find out she was right and her husband is found dead.

I really enjoyed following Darby during the investigation. I found her to be an interesting character and really liked her. I wasn’t really a fan of Tate as I always felt like he was hiding something from Darby.

I liked this book but I did have a really big issue with it. Every story has an outcome that is so obvious, so obvious that you know it can’t be true and it never is. Well, here it was. You can see this coming from a mile away. The book failed to keep me guessing and became an obvious paint-by-numbers investigation book. Thankfully Darby was such a great character otherwise this book would have been even harder to enjoy.

Book Title: Frozen Detective
Series: Piper and Porter Mystery #2
Author: Amanda Flowers
Audiobook Narrator: Laura Faye Smith

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Darby Piper and Tate Porter are partners in Piper and Porter Detective Agency in the Finger Lake region Herrington, NY – which is in the Finger Lake region. Cecily (CeCe) Madd is a successful model and high school classmate of Tate’s and wants to hire Tate and Darby to find the person who is sending threatening notes to her husband. Her husband Dr. Garret Madd is a dermatologist in New York who owns MaddlyCare skin products.

CeCe and Dr. Madd are planning a Business New Year's Eve gala at the Garden Peak Lodge which CeCe inherited from her father. Garden Peak Lodge is one of the most posh ski lodges in Seneca Lake. They have invited a lot of famous guests as well as clients and vendor who are trying to pitch their products. CeCe believes one of the attendees is the person who is sending the notes. She wants Darby and Tate to attend the party and be on the lookout.

At the party, Garret makes an announcement that he has decided to make Kiera Bellworthy, an actress in Hollywood the new face for MaddlyCare. Hmm CeCe is not happy about this announcement as she is the current “face’ of MaddlyCare!
Early the next morning Darby is working out in the lodge’s gym; as she is looking out the widow admiring the beautiful morning on the he ski slope, she see a body in the snow. She rushes out to assist only it is Garret with an arrow sticking out his back.
It seems Dr. Madd has lot enemies. Although CeCe seems to be a prime suspect but as a long time mystery reader, I know the most obvious person didn’t do it ~ suspect everyone!

The Police have closed the lodge and ordered the guest to remain.
Piper and Porter must find the killer before the weekend ends as the guest want to return home.
Who killed CeCe's husband and why?

This was a totally fun story.
Just love Darby, Tate and I also like Detective Austin - Plus who doesn’t love ‘Tiny’ the Saint Bernard?
This is one of my fav Cozy Mysteries

In the Epilogue Tate tells Darby that they have a new case. Hmm a teaser – for adventure #3!

I’ve read other books by Amanda Flowers but not any from the Piper and Porter Mysteries. I loved the banter between Darby and Tate, but I wish I had known more about their partnership, which I’m sure was discussed in the first book in the series but not fully if you’re jumping in on the second book (I’ll have to go back!).

The remaining cast of characters came off as pretty unlikeable to me, which is unusual. However, I loved the setting and storyline! There’s nothing like a snowy ski lodge and some family drama to make for a great cozy mystery.

Lots of twists and turns. I had an inkling of whodunnit, but there was more going on than I expected, which I loved. The audiobook narrator was great and really captured the characters personalities and mannerisms.

Thanks to #DreamscapeMedia and #HallmarkPublishing for the advance audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was a well written cozy murder mystery. It was book 2 in a series but it isn’t necessary to read book 1 first. It moved along at a great pace and kept me guessing until the end. I enjoyed the characters and the author developed them well. I picked up on a hint of a possible budding romance between main characters, Darby and Tate. Although I didn’t get a sense of chemistry between the two. Maybe that is meant to develop in book 3. Or maybe the author didn’t intend a romance and I’m mistaken. I guess I’ll find out when book 3 is released. This was a fun read and I give it 5 stars!

I love Amanda Flower and I enjoyed the first book. This one was just okay for me. I felt that it dragged a little too long and the mystery was just way too predictable for me. Besides Darby and Tate, I didn't find the characters to be very likeable.

I will continue with the series, if it continues and I will definitely continue reading Flower's books as I usually love them.

I am not sure if it was just the story line, but the narration was just okay for me too.

This is the second in a series but I think it could be read as a stand-alone even though you’d be missing out on some backstory. The main characters are easy to like and the mystery is entertaining. I listened to the audio version and the narrator was wonderful with her different voices for the different characters.

I absolutely this author! She’s one of my favorites and I try to read everything she writes. While she writes cozy mysteries, they seem to go a bit deeper than the traditional for the genre.
