When I requested a review copy of this book, I was under the impression that it was something quite different from what it turned out to be. I was not expecting to read the story of someone who was part of the “Moonies.” I found it fascinating to read about how she was sucked in, and took all the ideology on board. I was rather shocked at the some of the concepts their leader had about God, which I believe are heretical. In a lot of ways, this is quite a well done memoir. The author describes the story of her life quite vividly, and employs flashbacks to bring in important bits of her childhood. On the other hand, she switches from past tense to present tense all the time, sometimes in the middle of a sentence, which can be distracting. If you are a Christian, be careful with this book. Many beliefs that are described here are quite different from orthodox Christianity. Also, there is a lot of language such as darn, damn, or heck. In one chapter, a rape is described, and in another there is a discussion about s*xual relations between Lucifer and Eve.

I received a review copy of this book from NetGalley, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

I struggled to get into reading this book so never got to finish it. I am sure it will appeal to other readers, but wasn't something I enjoyed.
