I was so excited to see a copy of the second novel in the series available to read! Especially when I just finished the first book. I’ve been a fan of Holmberg’s work since reading “Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet”. The author continues to weave a magical story in a world unlike any other.

It was a joy to get the opportunity to read "Heir of Uncertain Magic" having read "Keeper of Enchanted Rooms." Once again, Ms Holmberg has written a story that held me in a spell as magical as those in the book. The story can certainly stand alone, but it picks up where the previous book ended. Merritt Fernsby and Hulda Larkin are still involved with BIKER - aka Boston Institute for the Keeping of Enchanted Rooms. As the previous director has disappeared, an audit is started by the London Branch - LIKER.
This story twists and turns with a delightful rhythm that will keep you turning the pages unless you absolutely have to put it down (Eating/Sleeping/Working.)
The magic in the story is sometimes as the title says uncertain. This is due to the fact that magic is slowly dying as fewer people of magical birth marry and have children. If only one of a couple has magic, like any other trait in genetics, it is weakened.
I am sure you will love reading about Mr Fernsby and Mrs. Larkin as they navigate a changing world.

Ms Holmberg has won my heart with this series. Of course, in the "About the author" it says that she also plays ukulele, so that is a plus for her in my book.
I do hope that this series continues.

This was another great entry in the Whimbrel House series, it had the charm of the first book and the same writing style. I had a great time reading this. I loved the magic elements going on and it did what I was hoping for from this type of book. Charlie N. Holmberg has a great writing style and it worked so well in this type of genre and am glad it continued.

"It was getting worse, somehow. Owein had woken during two nightmares this last week. Nightmares he could barely explain, let alone spell. Visions of being cold and dark and twisted and lonely. He didn’t know how to tell Baptiste. And Merritt . . . Merritt always smelled sad or angry, and when he didn’t, he was off somewhere with Hulda, doing whatever they did across the bay."

Another book that was hard to put down! This one was more of mystery than romance. I wished for more kissing, but surprisingly it still kept me very interested and always guessing. Often I can predict things that will happen in the book/endings. My guesses were never correct on this one and I appreciated that it had unique ideas that were not predictable in the slightest. She introduced more characters in this book and I certainly hope we see more books as part of this series! So many possibility! Love love!
