I have officially read every single Kasie West book! 🥳 I definitely like her older works better, but this one was very adorable and fluffy. It had lots of cute animals and a golden retriever love interest, with all the regular additions of teen angst and misconceptions that lying will solve your problems. It also addresses the impacts of dysfunctional family dynamics, which added just the right amount of depth to this cotton candy romance.

Wren and Asher's story is very relatable and can easily be a real story in our society today. I love that shy, role following Wren went outside her safe space to save Asher from being humiliated by his friends Dale. She didn't like to see him bullied or ghosted and wanted to help by proving Dale wrong. What she didn't expect was to actually like Asher, which then made her plan messy.

I also love that Wren works work animals at the shelter and truly loves the animals. You can always tell who is at a shelter for the paycheck or to actually help the animals find their forever home. Her connection with Bean was so sweet and I loved that she tried over and over for him to find his new human and didn't give up hope.

Wren's complicated situation with her mother was heartbreaking to see, but even worse was when her sister Zoey lashed out because she couldn't handle the truth about her mother's lack of love for her daughters. I think that was the truest scenario, that Zoey treating her that way hurt way worse than her mother because Wren didn't see Zoey's anger coming, but already knew her mother would disappoint before the end of their visit.

The social media bit of this book also made it super relevant in today's society. So many people think they can just post whatever they want without permission from the people in their videos. That's so disrespectful of people privacy and lives. Wren was walking around not knowing people were talking about her and I honestly would have held my grudge and anger way longer than she did.

I'm so glad I finally read this book and know it's one of my top favorite of Kasie West novels to date! Can't wait to dive into the next one soon!

Kasie West is one of the best at cutesy YA romances, and Borrow My Heart certainly fits the bill. Our main character, Wren, thrives when in control, follows strict rules for dating, and follows her plans to a T. When she saves Asher from a catfishing prank, all of these things go out the window. As she and Asher spend their summer working at the local dog shelter, she begins to develop feelings for him. The only issue is that Wren is lying about who she is and is worried about opening up after being hurt by her absent mother. The lies and the half-truths in this made both these characters a little tough to read, but they were acting like real, messy teenagers so I couldn't be super mad. Also, the scenes with the animals were super cute, and Wren's character arc felt satisfying. I will say I wish some of the side characters got more page time (both of their besties, for example), but this delivered exactly what I thought it would. This would be a fun option for The Summer I Turned Pretty or The Kissing Booth fans, and would fit into our YA collection.

A lighthearted YA romance for the online generation.

Wren loved control, rules and routine. This stems from her mother abandoning her family, leaving Wren, her sister and dad. When Wren is hanging out at her best friend, Kamala’s, place of work she overhears two guys. One is waiting for the girl he met online to show up while his other friend is recording for TikTok, guessing correctly that he’s being catfished. Wren ends up saving the day, pretending to be his date. It’s hard to walk this lie back when Asher is such a golden retriever of a guy. Together they both end up working at the local animal shelter and the longer they spend together, the harder Wren falls, but the truth will always come out.

This was not my favorite of West’s. I’m reading her newest one that releases in 2025 and I already like that one so much better. I hadn’t heard the best reviews for this one and it’s only the first in a duology, I think. I will read the second because I want read Kamala and Dale’s story.

CW: alcohol, parental abandonment

This didn’t really keep my interest. I think it could be good for a quick and sweet romance but it is probably for a younger audience.

Borrow My Heart features a strong, rule-bound protagonist who finds herself swept up in a whirlwind romance, but with a fun twist - a fake dating scenario that's reminiscent of one of my all-time favorite books Happy Place. With its lighthearted, funny, and emotional tone, Borrow My Heart is such a delightful read.

Overall an enjoyable and quick read. It was fun and I enjoyed the animals in it. Honestly, any book with cute animals in an automatic winner for me. My main complaint about this and the reason it wasn't a 4 star read for me was the miscommunication at the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another cute Kasie West read - this one had animals, quirky friends, and a main character and love interest that you can root for. The miscommunication trope towards the end was a little off putting, but this was an enjoyable read overall.

Borrow My Heart by Kasie West is a delightful exploration of love, spontaneity, and the unexpected twists that can unravel even the most meticulously planned lives. With a perfect blend of humor and heart, this novel is a must-read for fans of romantic comedies and those who appreciate the beauty of bending the rules for the right reasons.

Borrow My Heart By Kasie West. I love Kasie West books! The characters are likable and fun. The story line is relevant. Always a great read and Borrow My Heart is just as awesome! Wren likes to keep everything in order. She is a rule follower and a list maker. So when Archer walks into her coffee shop and she discovers he's being cat fished it's so not like Wren to step in, but that is exactly what she does. Suddenly Wren and Archer are hanging out and Wren it really stepping beyond her comfort zone. The one rule that Wren does break might be a deal breaker with Asher. Read Borrow My Heart and find out exactly what happens for yourself. Happy Reading!

This one is fine. Students who like Kasie West romances will eat this one up--good for MSers and HSers alike. The premise was a bit shaky, and then the conflicts were fairly contrived, and the ending was a little too pat for me. But there were dogs, so that made it slightly better.

I'm already a Kasie West fan, and I feel like this book is right up there with her greatest hits. She does such a great job writing a cozy, cuddly, feel good cute YA novel, while also taking a look at topics that might be a little tricky.
