Who doesn't love the MORGAN BROOKES SERIES!! I am so obsessed with Morgan and all the drama! This case was a sad one a family are burnt to death whilst sat at their kitchen table! The wife has a cross on a necklace that is strange she's not religious, and she thought someone had been following her so what happened!

Honestly I was hooked with this installment and I loved every part of it. Although I did guess the killer I love getting to work out how they did it ! Honestly it's written so well and the thought that goes into how the killer escaped was genius! Made me a little fearful living in my house, I'll say no more there.

The police procedure as always was written perfectly and yet it kept me so engaged it was insane! I also love Morgans relationship so I love to read the lasted update!!!

Honestly I couldn't recommend more! 5 stars. Thank you netgalley, Bookouture and Helen Phifer for a copy of the burning graves in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

(Delay with review as dealing with a a death in the family)

This is book 8 in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I recommend reading the whole series to get a greater understanding of the dynamics between the characters. This was such a good mystery and kept me hooked

This book is number 8 in the series, but I easily read it as a standalone. I found it to be a bit slow moving . It was still full of twists and turns but not as action packed. I still have questions unanswered.

This book sees Morgan and Ben thrown into a seriously heinous case which is made more difficult by the fact that Morgan is suffering from ptsd from an earlier case. I enjoyed this very much. It was almost impossible to figure out what would make anyone carry out such horrendous crimes and the identity of the killer came as a real shock to me.

This is the eighth book in the series featuring Detective Megan Brookes. Morgan and DS Ben Matthews, who is her boyfriend, are investigating the horrific murder of a family of three in a house fire. It was no ordinary house fire as all the three members of the family had all had their right hands cut off. As Ben knew Sally, the wife and mother, he and Morgan are determined to find the killer. It comes to light that Sally was scared before her death and also a neighbour feels that she is being watched. They have to find out if the two women were connected and in doing so Morgan puts her own life in danger. The team are still coming to terms with a death of a colleague from the last book but realise that they must carry on. This is another brilliant read from Helen Phifer and i can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,

WoW..........Their Burning Graves by Helen Phifer was is the eighth book in this excellent Detective Morgan Brookes series. This had me gripped again from the beginning till the end, just like the rest of her books in this series. It's full of great twists and turns throughout. I've really enjoyed the Detective Morgan Brookes character and all the characters within each book.

I highly recommend this series I have really enjoyed every book and another 5 stars for Helen's latest book.

Big thank you to Helen Phifer the author, NetGalley and Bookouture the publisher for an ARC of Their Burning Graves in exchange for an honest review.

I love this series and if you haven’t read it already I highly recommend starting from the beginning. This book can be read as a standalone but it does say what happens in the previous book so would ruin the suspense if you wanted to read that one (and it really is a dramatic one). There are so many great characters in this series and in this book we get to see how they all deal with grief differently. Morgan and Ben are also adorable. As for the plot, it is fast paced, full of twists and turns, and had me hooked until the end. As usual, Morgan is a risk taker but you can’t help but love her.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Reading Between the Wines book review #24/115 for 2023:
Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 📱: Their Burning Graves (Det. Morgan Brookes Book 8)
Author: Helen Phifer
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
Available now!

Sipping thoughts: I love how in each book in this series we learn about the murder or case. As soon as Brookes gets wind of the case we are taken on a whirlwind roller coaster. Phifer ensures we get chapters that have the murders POV which makes the reader feel even more connected to the story. I really enjoyed the connection between the characters in this story. I can’t wait to read book 9 releasing this summer, June 2023.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @TheirBurningGraves.

THEIR BURNING GRAVES is the Eighth book in a police procedural series featuring Detective Morgan Brookes by Helen Phifer. I have read all of the books in this series and this book is a definite winner! Although this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the books in order to get a full history.

The books in the Detective Morgan Brookes Series:
BOOK 1-ONE LEFT ALIVE
BOOK 2-THE KILLER’S GIRL
BOOK 3-THE HIDING PLACE
BOOK 4-FIRST GIRL TO DIE
BOOK 5-FIND THE GIRL
BOOK 6-SLEEPING DOLLS
BOOK 7-SILENT ANGEL
Book 8-THEIR BURNING GRAVES

This is my review of Their Burning Graves.

This is DC Morgan Brookes first day back at work in the CID office, in Rydal Falls, known as CAST, Crime and Safeguarding Team, after suffering from an injured ankle from her last case.

The cast of the small control team includes:

Sergeant Ben Matthews
Detective Morgan Brookes
DC Amy Smith
DC Des Black (deceased-murdered on the job)
Cain Robson-new to the unit

Detective Morgan Brookes and her boss, Sergeant Ben Matthews are a couple, and are living together at Ben’s house.

Detective Morgan receives a call re. house fire and fatalities, after a neighbor called in the fire. Detective Morgan Brookes rushes to the scene. But as soon as she enters the ruined home, she is devastated by what she finds.

Sally Lawson, her husband, David and fourteen-year-old son, Tim, were brutally murdered and their house set on fire. When the fire crew showed up, they discovered the bodies of Sally, David and Tim at the kitchen table, all slumped forward with plastic bags over their heads…all missing their right hands.

The Neighbors all agree the Lawsons were the perfect family. Morgan’s only clue is the silver crucifix necklace around Sally’s neck. Because according to friends, she wasn’t religious. Was someone passing judgement on this mother and her family?

Morgan learns that just days before the killing, Sally had confided in a friend that she felt someone was watching her. And then Morgan finds photos of Sally on her neighbor’s phone.

Then another local woman reports feeling watched.

It is now a race against time, for Morgan to solve this twisted mystery and expose the killer.

This is a fast-paced crime thriller with intriguing characters with a plot filled with twists and turns.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

A fast paced thrilling read. Morgan is a driven detective with a strong sense of right and wrong. She works well with her team and boss, but she is rather reckless. I enjoyed the writing style and clever red herrings and twists. It will be interesting to see what case she gets next.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, #8, yet reads well as a stand alone. This is an interesting convoluted mystery. It is steeped in history. The characters are well rounded and interesting. 4 stars

I will come back later and rewrite this review but Helen, sweetheart, you are SUCH an incredible writer; like - WOW..I'm infinitely glad that I came across the Morgan Brookes series and I don't ever plan to stop reading.

Thank you so much @netgalley, @bookouture and the gorgeous @helenphifer for the review copy! ❤️❤️❤️

Personal Rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5

I was curious what Helen has in stock for us after the last book. I adore every book in the series but book 7? Man, that's a showstopper. Or better yet, 'Heartstopper'. It was just so dark and chilling, the intensity, the horror- I still get goosebumps.

Book 8, Their Burning Graves is comparatively sober. I know I sound insane. Especially if this is your first book. My advice is - read the 7th and you will understand.

Anyways, I absolutely love that she started with a flashback! Flashbacks always pique my interest as I try to figure out why and how it fits in the puzzle. It served its purpose well. Might be my most favourite part of the story. The narrative is vivid in description, gripping and fast paced. I felt nauseous and suffocated after the first scene which is a testament to what an incredible author she is! The killer was a bit predictable, at least to me but I loved how everything was connected and how the tiny details came into play. There is some good news to make up for the trauma and honestly I couldn't appreciate them more. Highly recommended!

Detective Morgan Brookes rushes to the scene of a house fire, with a family dead inside. When she arrives it is apparent that they were dead before the fire was set. Sally and David Lawson, and their fourteen year old son, Tim had plastic bags ties over their heads and their right hands cut off with a meat cleaver. Everyone said they were well loved and had no enemies. The only clues were a silver crucifix around Sally's neck and the fact that Tim had been slipping at school and was playing some online game. Who had killed this family and why?

Their Burning Graves is the 8th book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series. Somehow I missed the previous book and will say that this book has major spoilers in it for that book, which is why I have been recommending you read this series in order. I will say that this book's prologue basically lets you know why Sally and her family were killed, but, I had no idea who was doing it. As the story progresses, another woman is now being targeted and I wasn't sure why, until much later in the book. Once again, Morgan and her team amaze me with their investigating skills, teamwork and perseverance. Morgan has a sixth sense when it comes to solving these terrible crimes and even though the evidence isn't there yet, she keeps following her intuition, while still following the other clues, even though she is sure that is not the right direction. There are many themes touched upon in this story, some more than others: dysfunctional families, grief, infidelity, addiction, mental health, sexual identity, secrets, and revenge. Once again, Helen Phifer has penned a well-written, fast paced story that kept me reading from start to finish, not wanting to put this one down. I wanted to find out what was happening and see if my thoughts were right. The characters were well developed and realistic, with relatable problems, I was on the edge of my seat as the crimes were coming together and Morgan was there trying to take down the culprit. Another wonderful addition to this series, a series that I highly recommend.

Their Burning Graves is the eighth book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series by Helen Phifer. I had not read the previous books, but was easily able to read this as a standalone book. There was a lot of time spent by the characters dealing with the death of a coworker that occurred prior to this book, but it helped me learn more about the characters.

This book was very interesting. The murder mystery was fascinating with multiple layers. The characters were well developed and kept my attention.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the other books in the series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
