This author seems to be hit or miss. I’ve read a few that I’ve loved but this one was a bit of a miss for me. It didn’t pack the suspense that her thrillers usually do. I found Eve annoying and her actions seemed a bit odd. The blurb also exaggerated the risk to her child. The story dragged in the middle and then it seemed to wrap up in one chapter. However, I was intrigued by what had happened to Philippa and the twist was interesting.

I’m fairly delayed in posting this review. In part because I’m still processing the twists! I LOVE thrillers to my core, and The Narrator by K.L. Slater absolutely delivered.

I’ll be looking to read more books by this author and adding them on my must read list! The twists and storytelling remind me of another amazing Bookouture author, Freida McFadden. If you’re a Freida Readah, make sure to put this book on your TBR too!

Huge thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A good mystery that keeps the suspense going. I did enjoy most of it, only some parts of the character's behavior was a bit annoying. I do get the complexity of having to share a childcare with your ex-husband and what comes with that so I suppose it is realistic. But in addition to the ex-husband, even her own mother was super annoying and that put me on tilt.

I cared less about the author but it was a nice twist in the end.

Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange of an honest review.

Another good thriller by KL Slater. Although it was not one of my favorites, it still make me interested and curious enough to turn the pages. Some of the characters actions though didn’t fell very believable to me. But overall it was a good psychological thriller.

My thanks to NetGalley and BookOuture for a copy of “ The Narrator ” for an honest review.

I’m a big fan of K L Slater’s books , they are well written and immersive and keep you guessing right to the end.
Although I enjoyed this new title ,for me it wasn’t one of her best .I didn’t feel the suspense I usually get from her books.
That being said, it was still massively better than many of the same genre books I’ve read by other authors so I’d still give it a 4* review .

Plot focuses on an Audiobook narrator who has been contracted to do the 10th book in a thriller series, however the author has been missing for 10 months. The Narrator, Eve decides that she will try and investigate what has happened to her herself. As well as a very exciting, unputdownable whodunnit, you also learn a lot about what it is like in the life of an audiobook narrator and a serial author. Really enjoyed this novel & highly recommend it.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. I give this book two out five stars. The ending of this book was mind blowing. However, I feel the story line was dragged out and the end was quickly wrapped up with little detail. Hi

Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and K. L. Slater for my ARC of ‘The Narrator’ in return for an honest review.

I always enjoy books by this author and this was another classy read. Eve, single mum to Scarlet, was a successful narrator of audio books until her world fell apart. However, she is asked to return to narrating for her favourite author who has been missing for eight months.

As she gets into the book she realises something is wrong.

Cleverly plotted with numerous twists and turns. Recommended

The Narrator following single mom audiobook narrator who struggles to handles her life back personally and professionally. Expecially when her main employer author suddenly got MIA at high demand of publish her tenth book. Does someone kidnap this author or she just decide to.. disappear ?

The writing is fast pace, well written and enjoyable, I really like this glimpse story into the publishing worlds and audiobook narrator as MC. The twist and turn isnt world changing but enough to give sparks to the storyline. The conclusion kinda odd but satisfying enough for each characters.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for provided me with this copy. I truly enjoyed this one and my thoughts are my own

I have liked many of K L Slater’s books, as they are well-written and smooth reads. This one follows the pattern – has a decent story and keeps you guessing.

Phillipa is a successful author on the strength of her best-selling Tower series. It is now many months since she disappeared, the evening she was to attend an award ceremony. Her wife Fleur says while Phillipa seemed a little worried and distracted, her disappearance is a shocker. Over time, the interest of the police and the media wanes. We are also told the story from a timeline 10 months prior, on the events leading to Phillipa’s disappearance. Eve is the person who has narrated all Phillipa’s audiobooks and knows her very well. Phillipa’s disappearance is a blow to her career, and she moves from London with her daughter Scarlet to live with her mom. She has had other setbacks – divorce from her conceited & controlling now ex-husband Hugo and her father taking his own life.

The story is told largely around Eve. The script for the 10th book in the Tower series is found hidden at Phillipa’s home, and the publisher is keen to get this to the market at the earliest. Eve is called on to narrate this book as well, an opportunity she is excited about, though Phillipa’s wellbeing remains a concern for her. There is an obsessive fan of Phillipa – Chad who seems to be now stalking her. Her ex-husband Hugo wants their daughter Scarlet to stay with him and his new partner Saskia, who is now expecting, for the time Eve works on this assignment in London. As she gets into the project, Eve finds the book very different in style from the earlier books and is puzzled.

I found the book very engrossing, and the characters are well developed – especially that of Eve. I also liked how Hugo’s irritating and Chad’s obsessive behaviours are portrayed. There is a big twist at the end, which I did not see coming. As happens with books written in this style, the tie-up of the strands of the story is only partial.

This is good light read, with a loveable and interesting character in Eve as an audiobook narrator.

My rating: 3.75 / 5.

A bout of the flu, followed by Covid, then vertigo, then a relapse on the flu was a twist I never saw coming.....and perhaps it was my illness but I never saw the big twist in this one either. I’ve read a couple books by this author and it’s been hit and miss. This was a miss. The dual timelines were confusing at times. The plot didn’t draw me in and the ending seemed far fetched and pretty rushed.

Still giving it three stars because others may enjoy it. But I wouldn’t recommend this to others and I’m not sure if I’ll read anything else by this author.

I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

I'm not sure how this is possible, but this is my first novel from this prolific author, and I really enjoyed it! I happened to read two books in a row that started with a similar premise (someone trapped in a room), and I now have a new category in my mind of "trapped woman" stories.

In this one, we follow the parallel stories of Phillipa, the rich and famous author of a successful thriller series, and Eve, her series' audiobooks narrator. They have gotten to know each other a bit over the years of working together, but never quite in the way as this last novel. Our story starts the night of an award ceremony where she is expected to win top honors -- our writer is kidnapped, and never makes it to the ceremony. Eve is instrumental in finding out exactly what has happened.

Will absolutely recommend KL Slater to others, and will read her other books! 4/5 stars
