Let's talk about KL Slater's The Narrator. In this gripping story, Phillippa Roberts, author of the best-selling Tower series, has been missing for almost a year. Her family, friends, and fans are left reeling from her sudden disappearance. All hope seems to be lost - the police have no leads, the press has moved on, and the world seems to have stopped looking for Phillippa until a manuscript of the tenth Tower book is found in her home.

Eve, our main character, is the long-standing narrator of the Tower series, as well as a personal friend of the author. With news of a tenth instalment, and the promise of a new narrating job, she throws herself into her old life in London - but something's not right. She knows this book series. She knows these characters. This new book isn't right. Details are missing, or just plain wrong. What gives? While balancing her hectic home life, demanding work schedule, and infuriating ex-husband, Eve vows to discover the truth behind Philippa's disappearance.

This book is a wild, wild ride. It took a little while to get into, but the payoff was so satisfying. The twists, the turns, the flashbacks, the multiple POVs, the insight into the lives of the various characters and discovering their secrets - it's done so well. I didn't see any of the twists coming, and I couldn't read this fast enough once I'd gotten into it. That did take 100 or so pages, then the pace picked up and wicked me away with it.

The characters are all well-developed, and I did feel connected to Eve (and I share her hatred of Hugo), but I didn't find Phillipa too relatable. That's just me, it was still a great storyline. As for the twists of any good thriller, I didn't see them coming, but they were plausible and believable. I feel like the "big reveal" was over quickly, though. I'd have liked more suspense during the big event towards the end, but the payoff was still good enough to satisfy me. All in all, it's a 4/5 from me.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!

Wow! Wow! Wow!
What a bloody fabulous novel!
It is my favourite yet!

I love KL Slaters books and get excited to read them as soon as they come out, but waited a little with this one. I really wish I read it sooner as it was so bloody fabulous!

I haven’t read one of the authors books that I haven’t enjoyed yet and this one is no exception with its unique storyline around a publisher, writer and narrator has really kept me enthralled throughout!

The storyline is clever, intriguing and KL Slater has foreshadowed plenty of red herrings to throw us off track.

That ending though! It has to be the best yet!

It was a shocker for me as I normally always guess who the culprit is but I was totally sidelined and my theory was so very wrong.

An absolute corker of a novel with a character base that I absolutely loved!

I have just finished a book by this author so was very excited about this one.
I loved the storyline and it kept me intrigued the entire way through it.
A brilliant thriller that will keep you guessing until the end

I throughly enjoyed this book down to the last whiplashing twist! The twists went strong all the way through this story and there were MULTIPLE that I didn’t see coming. I think Eve the main character was a woman on the edge with everything to lose and she managed to keep it all together and moving even with all that was thrown at her. Now her ex on the other hand was the most infuriating man I’ve read in a long time. The way I wanted to come through the page and tell him what was what!!! This book is all about how far people are willing to go…. To cover up and to uncover.

Just wonderful. This author is just the best. Every one of her books an addictive page turner packed with twists and this one no different.. I could not put it down. Just wow!

Eve is an audiobook narrator after changing from her original plan of acting after running into author Phillipa Roberts, who has now been missing for ten months. Then her final book in her long running series has been found and Eve has been asked to return to London to narrate it, when she’s given the original manuscript and the freshly edited one, she decides to do some sleuthing to find out what exactly happened to Phillipa.

This book was good. The storyline with the author kept me going but I think there were some pacing issues for me because I needed that information coming thick and fast to finally find out what happened. Having said that, the plot and the characters were brilliant and well developed.

One irk for me was the side plot with her dad, it just didn’t really feel very relevant to the story, although very touching and well written.

I highly recommended.

THE NARRATOR is the nineteenth psychological crime thrillers by bestselling author K.L. Slater, a gripping psychological thriller from the author of the number one bestseller The Marriage. This novel ticked all the boxes for me: a gripping plot, well-developed characters, and a fast-paced gripping read. Another winner!

This is my review of The Narrator.

The novel opens with favorite crime series author, Phillipa Roberts on her way to an award ceremony in her honor, when she was taken prisoner on route to the event. She had gone missing…

Eve Hewitt had been living the perfect life with her husband, Hugo and their five-year-old daughter, Scarlet. Eve was a successful audiobook narrator, mainly for crime fiction for many publishers. Soon after, Eve found out her husband was having an affair…and now her life changed completely. Now at thirty-six, she and her daughter were living with her mum, while her ex was with girlfriend, Saskia.

Being a single mother was tough, but Eve would do anything for her little girl Scarlet. Then Eve, a personal friend of Phillipa, was given a new opportunity to be the new narrator for a secret book from bestselling author Philippa Roberts, who has been missing for eight months. It was a lifeline for her and her daughter.

But it meant that Eve had to leave Scarlet with her ex in his perfect new home with his perfect new girlfriend. But she had no choice.

As Eve started reading Philippa’s new novel, she saw some anomalies in the new manuscript. Eve was sure that there was something hidden in the pages of this book…a possible clue to Philippa’s disappearance.

Eve had to search for the truth.

This was a well-written, fast-paced psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns to satisfy the reader. Very enjoyable read!

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for my digital copy.

A new novel turns up written by a missing author. Where did she disappear to? When did she write it? Only those that know her work and know her best can find her in time.

I Love how you never fully know what is happening and how one world overlaps with another. The secrets we keep can always come back to haunt us just like Phillipas have. But what is the secret and how does she handle it? Read this novel and find out.

I love the twists that the author gives us through the book. Who can you trust? Who is just being dragged along for the ride?

This is my first Slater novel and I absolutely loved it. The premise of the book is quite interesting. It has all the makings of a good thriller with twists and red herrings.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the eArc in exchange of my honest opinion.

The Narrator by K.L Slater was a brilliant, fast-paced novel packed full of plot twists that will have you gripped right from the start.

This was a really enjoyable read. The characters had real depth to them and felt like real people with real, believable problems. The author did a good job at exposing the characters underlying personality flaws by using subtle detail to make you think about their motives. The main character was relatable, but not perfect, so I was rooting for her every step of the story.

The only reason I knocked a star off this review is because I wasn't as shocked by the ending of this book as I would have liked. Unfortunately I found that about 3/4 of the way through I began to have think I knew what was going to happen. I was waiting to be proven wrong but it ended up turning out how I had expected. This was slightly disappointing. Overall this book was still a great! With a highly intense plot, multiple interesting characters and a nice style of writing, I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars.

2.5 stars rounded up. I’ve read a few of this authors books and enjoyed them but really struggled with this one. I found it quite boring and really couldn’t relate to the main character. She was so annoying and didn’t have any backbone just letting everyone walk over her. I nearly didn’t finish but struggled on to the end

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was an original storyline which I appreciate and the ending had quite the twist that I was both expecting and completely surprised at. K.L. Slater is becoming one of my new favorite authors. Would absolutely recommend.

What a wild ride full of twists that I didn’t see coming!

Eve is a voice actor who has narrated the first 9 books of the Tower series, before the author Philippa Robert’s vanished into thin air. Due to personal tragedies and the disappearance of philippa, Eve takes a hiatus from her job, but when a 10th book in the series is discovered, she heads back to london to start recording the next installment. Eve temporarily leaves her daughter Scarlet behind with her mom so she can resume her job and start a new life for them both. As she reads the manuscript, she begins to notice a lot of inconsistencies and starts asking questions someone doesn’t want her to ask…..

The book was such a fun read and I had so many theories that were all wrong. The author did a great job writing a mind blowing twist. Some of the side stories with eves ex husband and death of her father seemed a little unnecessary to the main plot, but overall I really enjoyed the mind games this book put me through!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback!

The Narrator is a story of a lies, betrayal and guilt. Eve’s life changed almost overnight. She is already struggling with personal turmoils and but Scarlet her daughter is the only thing that makes her smile, In the meantime, the best selling author, Philippa Roberts is missing for 10 months. But when her unpublished manuscript makes a sudden appearance everyone becomes happy. Eve, who has been the narrator of her book, is called back for the audio narration of the secret book. Eve has a nagging feeling about the manuscript. So she starts delving into deeper into the disappearance of Philippa and right then she gets warning letter to stop investigating. But she doesn’t stop putting her family into danger.

KL Slater is master of red herring and creating such tense atmosphere that you could not put the book down. The story is complex and intricate and you will think you know what happened only to be proved wrong. The book is fast paced and it will keep you hooked until the last page.

This started out a little slowly but that was important to establish the different characters and timelines. There were several of both but it didn’t get confusing; KL Slater does a good job of differentiating between the many POVs. I read/listen to a lot of thrillers so I sometimes guess the twist but I definitely did not see this one coming. It was unique and so unexpected. And I loved listening to a book about a narrator, a behind-the-scenes of what I enjoy every day. Highly recommended for those who love a few good plot twists.

This is the story of Eve. Eve is divorced and trying to rebuild her life with her 5 year old daughter. She has had to move in with her elderly mother. She was a voice actor but work had dried up. She is offered an opportunity to voice over a book by an author who mysteriously went missing. Eve spots inconsistencies in the book which is tenth in the series. Eve starts to wonder if there are hidden messages in the book and decides to investigate.

I really enjoyed the character of Eve but did question some of her actions. This was a twisty thriller that does exactly what you expect. I am a huge fan of this author and she never fails to deliver.

I always enjoy reading a book by this author so I was delighted to receive an advance copy of this one to review.
As always, a lot of dubious characters with dodgy motivations! I found this one a bit of a slow burn but the twists and final reveal were definitely worth the build up.

Feels like an inside track to a writers mind, but then THE TWIST. Loved it! KL Slater always delivers the goods!
