Kim Slater is back with this thriller that will have you hooked till the final pages. Philippa Roberts, an author has been missing for months. Eve is the mother of Scarlet and she is called upon to narrate the audiobook of an unpublished novel of Philippa's found in the attic of her home. Eve had previously narrated the other nine novels in Roberts' Tower series. Eve met Philippa five years ago when she visited her Aunt Mabel in Edinburgh. The last person to see Philippa was her wife, Fleur who Eve has met. Some characters you may like, others you may not, but the plot is top-notch in ths slow burn read. A terrific, twist filled tale, very highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

Another great story from Ms Slater which involves single mum Eve whose life is spiraling out of control when she is given a huge opportunity to narrate the 'lost book' of an author who had disappeared 8 months previously. All is not as it seems though! Eve is unsure who she can trust with her doubts and the story leads the reader up so many dead ends and misdirections. Great twist at the end which I didn't see coming either.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review.

K.L. Slater always writes a gripping psychological and domestic thrillers - 'The Narrator' is no exception to this! 10 months ago, acclaimed crime author Philippa Roberts went missing without a trace. Fast forward to an unpublished book being uncovered in the missing author's loft, causing a scrabble to cash in on this unexpected discovery. Eve is called in to narrate the audiobook of the new work, but from the beginning, something seems off with the characters and the style of writing. This prompts Eve to start investigating and asking questions, putting herself in the firing line from a mysterious foe...

This book is stacked with suspicious and morally grey characters, each one of them with a potential hand in Philippa's disappearance. My theories changed chapter by chapter and had no hope of being correct come the mind melding revelations at the novel's close. It arguably started as a slow burn but this gave us time to get to know the raft of characters and their shady motivations. I enjoyed the different points of view in the novel, particularly the flashbacks and glimpses into some of the truths of Philippa's disappearance. The tension and slow burn is more than worth it as the truths unravels.

Overall, this is a gripping read and I loved the twisty narrative. This is my fourth K.L Slater book and will not be my last - a guaranteed hit every time! 4 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I’ve seen K.L. Slater’s books around for the past year and now I can finally say I’ve finally read one! I’m in love with this cover!

I really enjoyed this tense, page-turner! I didn’t know which character to believe. They all had me guessing.

If you enjoy a layered plot, lots of twists, and a crazy unexpected ending..then this book is for you!

Now adding all of K.L. Slater’s books to my TBR!

Another great book from K.L. Slater. I have read many of her books and have enjoyed every single one. The plots keep you engaged throughout, to the point where you have to force yourself to put the book down and sleep. I try and guess the ‘culprit’ and am usually wrong as the endings are ones you don’t see coming.
Highly recommended.

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to review this one.

Themes: psychological thriller, mystery

I felt this book was a bit of a slow starter for me. I was waiting for it to really kick off which took a while.
I however didn't expect the ending at all. I had it planned to end a specific way and boy was I wrong. I will say I didnt find any of the characters particularly likeable. Felt they all has a bit of a whiney or creepy side to them. There wasn't a character I got attached too.

If your looking for a thriller esq read that will keep you wondering then give this one a bash. But for me it just lacked something in terms of character relationship with the reader.

The Narrator by K.L. Slater was a page turner!!

I could not put this book down. I had to know what happened to Phillipa!! So many twists and turns!! Many times I thought I had the ending figured out but nope was a surprise right until the end!!

I enjoyed the fast pace of this book. The characters were well done also.

Def recommend reading this one and will be picking up more books by K.L. Slater!

This book in the beginning came across as a little slow and a bit repetitive, however the end provided a jaw dropping conclusion. This ending is what bumped this from a three star to a four star. Be prepared to pick your jaw up off the floor!

This was a fun read. It kept me guessing and wanting to read.

Eve is the narrator for Phillipa’s books. It was her big break and has been her bread and butter. But then Philippa goes missing when she is expected to be writing her tenth book in the series. Eve wants Philippa found because she is her friend but also because she needs the money after her husband left her for another woman. But is she putting herself and her daughter in danger by trying to get to the bottom of the missing woman mystery?

The more I think about this, there were a few things I wasn’t crazy about. I don’t really understand the backstory with the father. Why did he do what he did? Why was this necessary in the story? Every bad thing that could happen to Eve did, in a short period of time. The part with Chad was a little much too. Byte overall I enjoyed it and will check out this author again.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read The narrator by K.L. Slater. This is the 2nd book by the author and I enjoyed The Narrator as much as I did The Girlfriend. This is a twisted thriller where I was suspicious of every character, but was still surprised by the ending. Totally recommend it!

What a shocker! The Narrator is a gripping and twist filled read with a reveal which knocked my socks off! WOWZA! I did not see that coming!

Bestselling author, Philippa Roberts has been missing for eight months. She was last seen while preparing to accept a writing award. She was at the top of her game and had a strong fan base. Everyone was shocked when she went missing without a trace.

Eve has narrated all of Philippa's books. She has been down on her luck after her husband left her for one of her colleagues. Now a single mother with a five-year-old daughter, Eve has moved back in with her mother. When she receives a call from a publishing company informing her that Philippa's wife has found a hidden manuscript, she happily agrees to narrate it. The only downside, she needs to leave her daughter with her mother.

Hugo, Eve's ex-husband has other plans and while Eve is in London, he takes their daughter to his home with his pregnant girlfriend. As if that isn't enough stress, Eve begins narrating and wonders if there could be hidden messages in the script.

This was a gripping, twist filled read with a jaw dropping shocker. This was a page turner for me and by the end, I could not turn the pages fast enough. I did not see that reveal coming and I love when that happens. This one kept me on my toes and fully invested in the plot. Another fantastic book by Slater!

Now this is how I like a book to start out !! Chapter 1 and I was hooked !! I really enjoyed this book, and couldn’t put it down ! This is my read by KL Slater and I really enjoyed her writing style !! And even though there were a few long chapters which aren’t my favourite… I still flew through them because I was so invested.

It is a bit of a slow burn , however it keeps you interested and guessing throughout the entire story ! So many lies and secrets, and you don’t know who to trust. Can you trust anyone ??
I thought I had it figured out by the end but I was very wrong ! I definitely did not see that coming and I loved it !!

I am someone who likes to go in blind when I read a thriller but for those of you who like to know a little something here’s a brief overview !

Phillipa Roberts is a best selling author who mysteriously disappears. Eve is a single mom who would do anything for her daughter. She had given up her career as a voice actor when she gets a call to be the new narrator for a secret book from Philippa. Who has now been missing for eight months. She didn’t want to do it and leave her daughter but she knew this was a lifeline for them. Even if that meant she’d have to leave her daughter with her ex husband.

As Eve she starts reading Philippa’s new novel, she is sure there’s something hidden in the pages of this book. Some clue to Philippa’s disappearance.

She needs to act fast or she could lose what’s most important to her. Her daughter.

I reviewed The Girlfriend by this author just a few weeks ago. Kl Slater is the writer of 19 psychological crime thrillers. She has sold over two million copies of her books worldwide.

An audio book narrator becomes involved in the search for the author whose books she has been narrating. The author has been missing for months and police aren't making much progress.

As with all good crime thrillers, there are numerous red herrings, and as we gallop towards the ending there's a surprise in store which even I hadn't envisaged. Justifies the "twisty" acclaim it will no doubt be given!

Eve had always enjoyed her job as an audiobook narrator, and she excelled as a voice actor while narrating a long-running series. After experiencing some serious personal problems, Eve has decided to focus her time and attention on her young daughter Scarlett. This break is also because the primary author Eve had been narrating for, Phillipa Roberts, has completely disappeared, having never been seen again. Therefore, the best-selling series, and Eve’s work, had come to a halt. However, a missing manuscript for the next book in the series has mysteriously surfaced. The publishers want Eve to narrate this very much anticipated book.

For Eve to take the job, she must leave her daughter for several months, but she’s not worried because she feels that leaving her in the care of her mother will work. However, her ex Hugo has other plans for their daughter, and this proves to be a distraction for Eve. Furthermore, Eve struggles with the context of the manuscript, and this is another source of her problems.

There are other stories being told in this thrilling book by K. L. Slater. We find that someone is being kept captive for a very specific reason, with cruel treatment being carried out. There is also a Phillipa Roberts super-fan, Chad, and the interesting role he plays in the story.

In this multi-layered story, answers begin to be told about the disappearance of the author, the trials that Eve experiences, and some surprising twists along the way. These twists play into Eve searching for answers, and this increases the tension in this exciting read. One thing that made this book such a fabulous read was getting an inside look at what goes on behind audiobook narrating, as well as the ins and outs of a book as it is being published and produced all while an intriguing mystery is being explored. Thank you to K. L. Slater for yet another wonderful read.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

As psychological thriller authors go KL Slater is one of the best and all of her books have been five star reads for me. This was no exception.

It's a slow starter, but this allows you to catch up with the characters and their lives before the real fun begins, and then it's a thrill a minute!

I found The Narrator to be a twisty gripping read, that envelops you in a shroud of tension till the very last page is turned.

The characters are plausible, flawed and made for an entertaining read.

Did I enjoy this book? YES I did! Did I give it five stars? Obviously!

Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.

Phillipa Roberts an award winning author. . No-one knows where she's went or if something has happened to her. Eve is the narrator to Roberts' books. Eve wants to know what happened to the author.
Twists and turns on this one! Great read.

This was a wiiiiild ride! The twist at the end made my jaw drop and flipped me upside down 😂 I freaking LOVE when a thriller does that. The whole book I had different theories of what happened to Phillipa and who was responsible. I was sooo wrong. On everything. Some parts seemed to drag on, but regardless, it was a really good read that will definitely leave you shocked to the core.

This one had me from the get go! Quick paced, easy read with short chapters that keep you flying through the intrigue. I totally didn’t see the ending coming. I enjoyed the insight into the stressful world of book publishing. Nothing is ever as it seems. I highly recommend The Narrator.
Thank You to Bookouture, NetGalley and K.L. Slater for the opportunity to devour this ARC.

I was really excited to get started on The Narrator, it was my first read of 2023! But after the first few pages, I felt it wasn't quite as gritty as the author's other books. However the further you delve in it gets better. In fact, the last few chapters are great! And the best bit - I didn't see that coming!

If this is your first book by KL Slater you really need to dig out her other books as they are epic and far superior.

The Narrator wasn't quite up to par with the others, but I will be eagerly awaiting the next book by KL Slater!

The Narrator is another great read by KL Slater. I have to admit that I found this book a little bit slow paced at first and I did feel slightly concerned as I like my books to be fairly fast paced from the start. However the story soon picked up pace and I became totally absorbed in this book. . There are plenty of OMG moments throughout the book and one that literally made me gasp out loud. 4⭐️
