Spooky! Quick read! Captivated me from the beginning but honestly the ending fell flat for me. I wanted to like this more but it just left me with unanswered questions. Maybe I’ll give it another chance at another time but giving 3 stars for now!

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publishers, and Clemence Michallon for this ARC of The Quiet Tenant. This is the first I’ve read of a mystery-thriller in second person and honestly, I really enjoyed it! It was interesting seeing from other prospectives, even while hoping for a bit from Aidan, but it’s okay. I wouldn’t say it was fast paced - but I was eager to get to the end to see what happened. I would def recommend this to someone wanting to try a different type of thriller - I can see how it might not be for your classic thriller readers. Would read another one of Clemence’s books!

I have missed reading good thrillers. Those books that just read effortless-this is one of those books. I got itchy fingers wanting to keep reading it when work made me work. Stupid work.
It's a serial killer dude book but he isn't the star. It's told from the points of view of a woman he took, His daughter and his girlfriend.

Booksource: Netgalley in exchange for review

SPOOKY! Well written and quite possible to get nothing done while you sit and read this book! Get ready for different view points and a creepy male main character. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Five stars. Hard to put down!

Thank you, NetGalley and Knopf books for the e-arc of this book!
I LOVED this book! If you're a fan of true crime and thrillers, this is your book! This is Clémence Michallon's debut novel, and she did a great job with it! I can't wait to see what she comes out with next!
This book is about a woman who was kidnapped by a serial killer and kept locked up for years. We get to see things from her perspective and what she does to survive and ultimately escape. You see these types of stories in the news. Women who go missing and no one knows what has happened to them. They are assumed dead in a lot of cases, because there is just no trace of them, and sometimes, many years later, they have the chance to escape or something happens and they are discovered and everyone is just amazed at how they survived for so many years in the conditions as to which they were held captive.
I love the way the chapters were titled with the victim being referred to as "the woman (in the situation)". The story is written to follow several people's points of view that come in contact with the kidnapper. The victim, the 13 year old daughter and the love interest. So fascinating how each person sees and interacts with him.
I highly recommend this one if like this type of book. Well written and kept me engaged.

A quick read that kept me guessing from the moment I opened it. Multiple POV, serial killer, captivity, a double life…this novel has it all. And kudos to Michallon for completing their goal of writing an English novel, fantastic job!

Okay it’s not an option but I rate it 4.5. It was sooooo close to being a perfect book. I loved it. I loved the suspense. I love how it revealed victims throughout the story. Emily was kinda annoying because she was practically in love with him after just the little time they had together. But I loved connecting the dots like with the necklace. I wish the ending wasn’t as rushed tho. Maybe I just wanted more revenge on him since he was like idk AWFULLLLL!!!! But it was such a good read. Kept me intrigued the whole time!!!

Wow! I finished this book so quickly- definitely a page-turner and one I could not put down.

Aidan Thomas is charismatic, well-loved, and a “pillar of the community.” He and his daughter, Cecelia, are grieving the loss of their wife and mother and the town helps to unconditionally support them. What they don’t know is that Aidan has a few….hidden secrets that will come to the light.

I was very interested in the way this book was written from different POV and almost an omniscient view at times. I did wish the story kept going and we got more information about the outcomes, but the ending was sufficient for me.

I was so enthralled with this book that I quite literally could not put it down. Definitely a must-read for the thriller lovers!

Thank you to NetGalley, Knopf Publishing Group, and the author Clémence Michallon for the ARC in exchange for my review.

This author has an amazing talent for storytelling. It is amazing to think this is the first novel. The characters are well developed and real. The storyline hooks you from page 1. I devoured this book in 1 day, that doesnt happen often! Definitely a 5 star read!

If you were a fan of the book/movie ROOM, you will definitely need to check this one out. "Rachel" has been held captive by Aidan Young for the last five years. She has spent all of her time alone in a shed, minus when he comes out to "visit" her. Eventually, Aidan's wife dies and he must move, which includes moving Rachel, and his 13 year old daughter, Cecelia. This book had me captivated from the very beginning. I have always been interested in true crime, and this book is perfect for true crime lovers who are looking for a bingeworthy fiction read. The chapters alternate between "the woman in the house" aka "Rachel" and a few other characters in the story: Cecelia (the daughter), Emily (the new potential love interest), and the women that Aidan has killed. It is interesting to see how Rachel coped with living as a hostage and the things that she has learned to do in order to ensure her survival. I think my biggest fascination with stories like these, both real and fictional, is how someone who seems so normal can be so sick and twisted and living a double life. Aidan Young is well respected in his community and beloved by his daughter, but of course, that is not the side of him that Rachel knows. She knows him as her abuser and her abductor, and she has formed some semblance of a relationship with him to keep him from hurting or killing her. The aspect of him having a daughter was also really interesting, and I'm glad we got her perspective throughout the story. I was really looking forward to this one, and I'm so glad that it didn't disappoint. One last thing: definitely make sure you are aware of trigger warnings in this book, which include kidnapping, rape, homicide, and cancer.

*****I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It held me interest and I felt drawn to the characters. I loved how it was told from all the female perspectives.

What I didn’t like about this book was all the times the main character had to escape and she didn’t take them. I found myself frustrated with her for waiting so long to make a move to get out of her situation.

Having just finished this book I'm sitting thinking, why did this have to take a left turn?

I was so excited to finally have a book that I would look for free moments to just read a little more. The beginning grabs you and locks you in. I was hooked until about 70%. Then it seemed to drag and I found myself skimming a bit. Then we finally get to where you know you are finally going to get a resolution and it ends but now I have more questions than answers.

So I am going to give this book 3 stars. I feel like it had great potential as a thriller but felt more like a drama toward the end.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

This book sucked me in immediately. From the title, to the cover, to the first sentence. I had this book finished in one weekend. The suspense kept me constantly on the edge of my seat. The only thing I didn’t really care for was the writing style, but it didn’t bother me. I will definitely recommend this book to others.

Aiden is a well-liked man with a secret.. He's also a serial killer and has been holding a woman, 'Rachel,' captive in his shed for five years. When Aiden is forced to move and take Rachel with him, she wonders if this could be her opportunity for escape.
This was a slow build with a lot of tension, and I was expecting a bit more of a payoff in the end. It definitely kept me interested and needing to know what happened next, but I think I was expecting more thrill, while instead it was more of a drama. I would have liked more of an insight into Aiden and the reasons/history behind the other women. I also thought there would be more from Cecelia than there was. I think fans of 'Room' will enjoy this read.

This book is fast-tracked for the best book I will have read this year.

Rarely have I found a thriller that built its characters so well. Usually, the plot is spoiled too soon by foreshadowing and predictable archetypes, but this one kept me guess from beginning to end. That being said, this is not a super action packed thriller. It’s quieter, the beauty of this book is in the dichotomy of the villain. The author asks us to consider a person who can be an absolute monster in private while simultaneously being a beacon of the community he lives in. The POVs used in this book help to reinforce this juxtaposition, pulling the reader in two different directions as we try to reconcile the different men each of the women narrators see. Highly highly recommended!!!!

In this book, we follow 3 women, a serial killer victim whom he spared, his new girlfriend who is low-key obsessed with him, and his 13 yo daughter. I loved how this book was centered around the serial killer but he is given zero space and no voice. The story was driven by women and we get to understand how different they view the same person.
The writing was great, the pace was very fast, the chapters were short and some scenes had my heart race pick up so much that I couldn't breathe.
I did not give this book 5 stars because I felt like a few questions were left unanswered. I tossed them around and still couldn't make sense of some things. I also wanted to hear more from the daughter, her view, and how she felt living the life she did.
Overall, solid thriller and an amazing debut.

WOW! This is the best book I have read so far in 2023. Suspense, drama,, and murder. My favorite kind of thriller! The book is written in second person for a large portion of the book which is so unique! It made me feel like I was experiencing the horrors in this book. Not only is it primary in second person, but it flows from first, to second to third person flawlessly. Those readers that enjoyed "Room" will definitely enjoy this book.

I am shocked this is a debut thriller from Clemence Michallon, I cannot wait to see what she brings us next!

Oh, this book was sinister as all hell.

Thank you to NetGalley, Knopf Publishing Group, and the author Clémence Michallon for the ARC in exchange for my review.

This entire book is a trigger warning so please go in prepared.
I won't lie, it's some of the same things you've seen on the news, woman is kidnapped, locked in a shed by a psychotic man, woman loses sense of self.
We've seen these, so I think the familiarity of the narrative kept my interest.
Rachel has been locked in a shed for 5 years when her jailer-nice man charmer-Aidan, tells her they have to move because his wife died and now he's a single dad ( just cry me a river bro).
The move gave Rachel some freedom, but she is still as trapped as before.
But Rachel has a plan to escape and soon starts pushing the boundaries of her prison.
This book was so frustrating for me to read, especially when you read from Rachel's perspective and have to listen to her logic and reasoning.
This is a true psychological thriller with some intense scenes.
You really do get a feeling of dread, you feel the anxiety and nail-biting pressure of the world the author creates.
You won't forget this one guys, a solid read for sure.

Thank you Knopf and Net Galley or letting me read this ARC for an honest review.

Wow, ok. First thoughts are, it was hard to put the book down. I started this on Thursday and basically read it all through the night and to finish off this Saturday morning. It had this addicting cadence to it that made you just want to keep reading. It wasn't because it was extremely suspenseful or mysterious, but moreso because being inside of the mind of someone experiencing captivity for so long was engrossing. I didn't agree with a lot of her decisions, in fact I became angry at quite a few but found myself being able to put myself in her shoes and know that sometimes in these situations you don't do what you think you will because of fear. It provided all the different aspects and POVs that you normally don't get in this kind of book. Very extremely well written. I am excited for this book to be on the shelves for everyone else to read!

Aiden Thomas is what you would consider a hard working family man and is loved in his community. He has a beutiful daughter who is his light of his life and loves and leads what would be considered a great life. But he has had the face the death of his wife and now has to move. But wait there is more. He is a serial killer and kindnapper and has a girl in his shed. After the death of his wife he is forced to move and decides to take his victim with him. Through multiple lies and being sneaky he is able to have his victim move in with him and his daughter. He forces her to join in on dinners and she gets some time in the open house. But little does he know she has a plan and things are not always what they seem.

This book was a on the edge of your seat thrill! I really enjoyed the multiple perspectives and it was fairly easy to follow. I was able to keep up with the story line and get the different perspectives of the story. It switches back and forth so that we can get a full picture of what is actually going on. I truly enjoyed this novel and I couldn't put it it down! There is something about the unwilling victim planning her escape that made me questioning everything. I would highly suggest this book!
